    Warm caregivers but management concerns

I toured Stone Lodge and felt immediately welcome - the staff were loving, attentive, and treated my mom like family. It's a small, homey community with great food, social activities, and a joyful atmosphere that made visits a pleasure. Rooms are nicely painted but very small and can be cramped for anyone with mobility needs. I'm grateful for the caring caregivers, but I also heard troubling reports about unprofessional management and staffing/neglect issues, so I recommend checking staffing history and room size before deciding.

    Summary review

The reviews present a strongly mixed but sharply polarized view of Stone Lodge Memory Care. A large portion of reviewers emphasize exemplary personal care and a warm, home-like atmosphere: staff are repeatedly described as loving, attentive, thoughtful, compassionate, and experienced. Many family members said residents were treated like family, enjoyed the social environment, made friends, and were involved in activities. Positive comments also highlight the food, pleasant rooms (well painted and liked by residents), and a smaller community feel that made visits joyful and comfortable. These reviews portray an environment that feels cozy, welcoming, and supportive, with staff who maintain positive interactions with families and create a nurturing daily experience for many residents.

Contrasting sharply with these positive impressions are several very serious allegations from other reviewers. These negative reports include claims of unprofessional management and neglectful care—specifically that some residents were not changed or dressed and were left in soiled briefs. There are also specific, severe accusations alleging staff substance use on the job (drugs or alcohol) and that night shift workers slept while on duty. Additionally, some reviewers characterized the owner as primarily motivated by money and reported concerns to the State of Michigan. These complaints suggest potential systemic issues around oversight, staffing reliability, and quality control that, if accurate, would be major causes for concern.

Facility-related feedback is similarly mixed. Multiple reviewers appreciated the appearance and atmosphere of the building, noting nicely painted rooms and an overall pleasant setting. However, several reviewers pointed out that rooms are very small and space is tight—explicitly noting that some residents would have difficulty turning around or moving comfortably. The small-community size is a benefit for some families seeking a cozy environment but may translate into limited physical space and resources that concern others.

Operational and communicative aspects show variability as well. Some families reported positive, clear interactions during tours and thorough, welcoming experiences. Others described uncertainty about details encountered during the in-person tour or the first visit. The combination of glowing testimonials about staff care and equally alarming reports of neglect indicates inconsistent performance: many families experience high-quality, loving care while a smaller group reports severe lapses. The presence of formal reports to a state agency underscores the seriousness of some complaints and suggests that prospective families should seek up-to-date information on any investigations or outcomes.

Overall, the dominant themes are a warm, loving staff and homelike environment experienced by many residents, paired with a minority of reviews alleging very serious problems related to management oversight, staff behavior, and basic personal care. For anyone considering Stone Lodge, the reviews point to the importance of in-person assessment focused on staffing patterns (especially night shift), room layout and size, direct observation of care routines, clarification of management policies, and checking whether past complaints have been investigated or resolved. The collection of reviews shows both strong positive experiences and significant red flags; this combination suggests variability in care quality that deserves careful, specific follow-up before making a placement decision.
