    About The Kensington

The Kensington is an assisted living facility that sits in a former hotel designed in the Renaissance Revival style, and you'll notice the lobby with its big mahogany columns, mosaic tile floor, and that old marble staircase leading up to the mezzanine, plus those metal railings looking down over everything, and the ceilings on the second floor are all coffered which shows the building's age and history because it first opened as the Paddock Hotel way back in 1887 but got restored in 1989 and turned into a retirement community, which means there's a lot of charm and character in these old walls. The building now holds 110 rooms and is licensed for 72 beds, and the community offers long-term assisted living care, non-acute care, and adult daycare for seniors, with support for folks who need help with things like bathing, grooming, dressing, bathroom use, getting around, and managing their medicines, and there is always staff watching out and helping 24 hours a day. The facility is licensed by both state and local agencies.

Seniors here find a wide range of programs and daily life activities like fishing trips, movie nights, craft events, tabletop games, fitness classes, card games in the evening, Bible study, holiday parties, church rides, high school sports outings, and even the Friday Afternoon Club, and there are themed activities every week through the LifeCycles Wellness Program and the Bucket List program, which adds something new to look forward to year-round. The Kensington also brings in music therapy and pet therapy, and there are things like reading rooms, a library, a game room, recreation areas, walking paths, gardens, and a sun room that looks out over main street in Beatrice, plus they've got a vintage Soda Shoppe for those who want a simple drink or snack in a familiar place, and there's always space to relax, like the wellness room, spa, or just outside in the yard.

They help with transportation for shopping, medical appointments, and spiritual services, making getting around easier. Meals are handled onsite and the staff can accommodate special diets for conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, and the kitchen prepares and serves food in a dining hall, taking care of all housekeeping, laundry, and dry cleaning needs on the side, and there's always a traveling barber or stylist for haircuts and trims. The Kensington supports everyone with safety in mind by keeping a full emergency alert system and all the areas are wheelchair accessible. They use a resident billing portal for payments which keeps things organized.

There are community and activity rooms where folks socialize, a garden to walk in, a reading room to enjoy, and planned activities mean no one has to worry about getting bored. You'll find adult daycare for those who only need help during the day and plenty of enrichment programs to fill out the week. The facility is part of a group, with sister locations in Cumberland, MD, Fort Madison, IA, Hastings, NE, and Vancouver, WA-and sometimes those other places are called "Evergreen Inn" or "Kensington at Fort Madison" depending on which one you're talking about, but the main idea is always the same: seniors can live safely, get the help they need every day, and enjoy time with others in a setting that remembers its long history and tries to make life enjoyable.
