    Loving staff, outstanding care, relief

I placed my mom at The Heritage and I'm so relieved - the staff are loving, dedicated, and truly treat residents like family. She's happy in a cheery, spacious apartment with great food, an on-site salon, frequent activities, outings and trips, and excellent nursing and housekeeping; communication and remote check-in give me real peace of mind. Minor construction and occasional slow responses aside, the sense of community and outstanding care have been exactly what we needed.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with an overwhelming emphasis on the quality of staff and the supportive, family-like culture at The Heritage at College View. Multiple reviewers used words such as caring, loving, dedicated, and true gems to describe staff, and specific praise was given to nursing and med-aide responsiveness. Several comments describe staff going above and beyond, making residents and family members feel comfortable and secure. The presence of long-tenured staff and comments that staff 'feel like family' reinforce a pattern of continuity and personalized attention. Specific staff names were even called out positively, indicating meaningful personal relationships between employees and residents.

Care quality and safety are recurring strengths. Reviewers consistently report excellent care, peace of mind, and professional, attentive nursing. Pandemic-era care was appreciated by at least one family, and the community’s use of remote check-in and social media to stay connected during difficult periods was noted positively. Communication with families is generally described as good, and several reviewers mentioned relief and gratitude when moving a loved one into the community — a strong indicator of trust in clinical and day-to-day care.

The facility and apartments receive frequent praise. Descriptions such as nice, bright, cheery, and spacious appear repeatedly. Unit features highlighted include roomy bathrooms, whirlpool baths, microwaves, and full-size refrigerators—amenities that support independence and comfort. On-site services like housekeeping, maintenance, a hair salon, personal shopper service, and transportation to appointments add to convenience and resident satisfaction. These physical and service-oriented factors combine to support residents’ autonomy and daily living needs.

Dining and social life are another prominent theme. Most reviewers found the food good or pleasurable and specifically appreciated chef-prepared meals and special touches like birthday meals. The community offers a broad range of social and recreational programming: monthly entertainment, card events, concerts, field trips (including outings to Omaha, Grand Island, and regular Walmart trips), social hours, and church services. This programming supports active engagement and social bonding; multiple reviewers mention friendships formed and a strong sense of community. Family events and visible marketing of activities via social media were also noted, reinforcing the community’s active lifestyle image.

While feedback is overwhelmingly positive, a few consistent, but limited, concerns appear. Several reviews mention slow response times in certain situations and construction-related disruption that made life more difficult for at least one resident. A small number of reviewers noted resident disengagement or difficulty adjusting after the move, and one comment indicated missing particular homemade foods (pies and ribs) despite general satisfaction with meals. These negatives are relatively isolated when compared to the volume of praise, but they do point to areas for potential attention: ensuring timely responsiveness, managing construction impacts, and providing individualized support for residents who struggle with transition or who miss specific home comforts.

In summary, The Heritage at College View is portrayed as a warm, well-run community with strong clinical care, exceptional staff-resident relationships, abundant activities, and comfortable accommodations. The dominant impression is of a place that promotes independence while offering attentive support, social engagement, and conveniences that make day-to-day life easier for residents and reassuring for families. Minor concerns around responsiveness, construction, and occasional adjustment challenges are present but not widespread; they represent actionable opportunities for management to refine service delivery and transition support. Overall, reviewers recommend the community and consistently highlight the staff and programming as the core strengths that contribute to resident happiness and well-being.

About The Heritage at College View

The Heritage at College View sits just east of the Hastings College football stadium in College View, Hastings, Nebraska, and has served the area since 2006 with both assisted living and memory care. This two-story community is locally owned and operated by Heritage Communities and offers a safe, comfortable place for older adults who need help with memory support, daily tasks, or skilled nursing care. Folks can take tours with their families, and there's also a handy virtual tour option. The rooms come in studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom styles, including a special memory care studio, with sizes ranging from 385 to more than 980 square feet, and the building itself has neat historic touches like original tiled floors, marble pillars, polished brass rails, a charming game room painted with 1916 tavern murals, and a vaulted dining room where meals are served.

The place lets residents bring their cats or dogs, and two pets already live on-site, which makes it feel a bit homier, and the facility says they're happy to welcome small pets too. Meals, bathing or showering help, incontinence care, blood sugar checks and insulin injections, and meal delivery come as needed, and the staff help with things like getting dressed and taking medications. Non-ambulatory care, diabetic support, and skilled nursing are all available as well, and there are wheelchair-accessible showers in each apartment. The community feels lively with indoor and outdoor spaces for gathering, a scenic courtyard full of wetlands and wildlife to look at, and exercise facilities plus a salon or barber shop. Activities are a big focus-there are around 40 activities every week, and folks can join in things on-site or go out on trips, including recreational outings and devotional activities, so staying social gets a bit easier here.

There's a real emphasis on memory care, with secure areas and programs like Portraits® and Snapshots™ to help people with cognitive changes, using Montessori-based activities and therapies aimed at keeping residents' minds sharp and giving a strong sense of purpose, and these programs cover everyone from those needing a lot of help to folks with mild cognitive impairment. The Portraits® program, for example, uses multi-sensory exercise and creative activities. The community tries to foster connections and encourages families to visit and join in, while online planning tools, lifestyle info, and caregiver resources are available for support. Whether a resident prefers independent living, assisted living, memory care, or needs a higher level of skilled nursing, the care team makes personalized care plans. Helpful services like transportation run about 1,450 miles a month, with both complimentary and paid options, and parking's available too, so families don't have to worry about getting to appointments or events.

There are always things to do, from religious and spiritual gatherings to community events, and the environment tries to feel as much like home as can be managed, putting a focus on relationships, comfort, and building trust. The staff have years of experience and serve with compassion and respect, with a culture based on their core values of compassion, respect, trust, fun, and continual learning. The Heritage at College View has earned a 4.8 review score from 25 reviews, which suggests most residents and families feel good about the care and experience there. The facility allows for both short-term and long-term stays, and each resident's care can change over time if needs change, with different levels of service all available on the same campus.
