    Caring staff, clean, homey community

I placed my mom here and feel completely relieved - the staff is genuinely caring and treats residents like family (Janine and team went above and beyond). It's a small, homey 23-unit community with clean, well-kept rooms (they're on the small side), comfortable common areas, lots of activities, therapy rooms, on-site amenities and reliable transportation to appointments. The food is homemade and delicious, the administration is proactive and responsive, and overall it's a safe, welcoming place I'd highly recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The vast majority of review summaries portray Havelock Manor as a small, home-like assisted living community with consistently praised, compassionate staff and strong family-oriented culture. Multiple reviewers emphasize that staff go above and beyond — running errands, visiting residents in the hospital, attending funerals, offering personalized snacks, and providing emotional support during end-of-life moments. Administrators are repeatedly named and commended (frequently Janine/Jeannine and Randi) for being proactive, communicative, and engaged with residents and families. Many reviewers explicitly state they would highly recommend the community and feel relieved and confident in the care provided.

Care quality and staff: Care is the most commonly praised area. Reviews repeatedly call out caring, patient, knowledgeable, and efficient direct-care staff who deliver hands-on assistance and emotional support. Several accounts describe staff treating residents like family, offering hourly check-ins, and coordinating hospice support sensitively. There are multiple testimonies about staff transparency (for example, communicating a medication mistake) and about administrators personally checking in with families. Long-tenured staff and an administrator who ‘goes above and beyond’ are highlighted as contributors to continuity and trust. While these positive themes dominate, a small number of serious negative incidents (a resident found on the floor with delayed response; a family reporting poor end-of-life dignity) indicate that rare but significant lapses have occurred. At least one review also references an abuse investigation, which reviewers cited as a reason for concern.

Facilities and environment: The facility is described as neat, clean, and well-maintained overall, with comfortable and inviting common areas, a large dining room, rocking chairs on the front porch, patio and garden space, and grounds that reviewers find pleasant. The small size (around 23 units) is repeatedly framed positively — fostering a tight-knit, family-like community and enabling personalized attention — but it also leads to consistent comments about very small rooms and somewhat dated accommodations. Several reviews mention narrow hallways and limited private bathroom availability. While most reviewers praise cleanliness, there are isolated but serious reports of odor (urine) in a room and at least one mention of pest problems (bed bugs, roaches), which conflict with many other reviewers’ statements that inspections were deficiency-free. These conflicting accounts suggest variability in condition or that specific incidents affected some residents but not the facility as a whole.

Dining and amenities: Dining is a strong positive theme. Many reviewers describe excellent, homemade meals (not reheated), flexible breakfast times, table service, substitutions, and the availability of seconds. The dining experience is often described as social and well-managed, with a large dining area and personalized meal responses (special meals on request). Additional amenities mentioned across reviews include daily activities rooms, therapy rooms, on-site stores, a movie theater (mentioned in some summaries), a community library, beauty shop, church services, and transportation to doctor appointments. Pets and companion animals are noted as part of the engaging environment for residents.

Activities and social life: The activity program receives frequent praise: daily exercise, coloring, concerts, puzzles, social meals, beauty shop appointments, and church services are examples. Residents are described as engaged, eating and playing together, and staff are credited with planning fun and consistent activities that support socialization and cognitive engagement. Several reviewers point out dementia-friendly programming and an activity program that suits varying needs. The overall picture is of an active, socially supportive environment that contributes to residents’ well-being.

Management, policies, and pricing: Management earns consistent positive mentions for communication, family inclusion, and responsiveness; administrators proactively visit residents and meet with families. However, a recurring non-clinical concern is pricing: some reviewers describe a tiered or complicated pricing structure that can be frustrating, while others note an affordable rate or fixed-price alternative. Reviewers advise prospective families to clarify pricing details. Another pattern is that while many reviewers report strong infection control (including statements of no COVID-19 cases among residents in some reviews), the presence of isolated but significant complaints (pest reports, a fall not noticed, an abuse investigation) suggests the importance of asking direct questions about past incidents, corrective actions, and current protocols during a tour.

Notable patterns and caveats: The dominant narrative is overwhelmingly positive — compassionate staff, clean and homey common spaces, excellent meals, and rich activities — producing many enthusiastic recommendations. The small size is generally a selling point but also explains several repeated cons (very small rooms, limited private baths). A small but serious minority of reviews cite alarming issues (pest infestations, neglect, poor handling of end-of-life dignity, and an abuse investigation). Because these negative reports are serious yet not numerous, they should be treated as important flags to investigate further rather than definitive indicators that problems are systemic. Reviewers also frequently praise specific staff members by name, which suggests strong relationships that matter to families.

Bottom line and suggestions for prospective families: Havelock Manor appears to deliver warm, individualized care in a small, community-focused setting with excellent food and a robust activity program — qualities that multiple families describe as making residents happy and well-cared-for. Prospective residents and families should weigh the appealing personalized atmosphere against the practical realities of small, sometimes dated rooms and the isolated but serious negative incidents reported. When evaluating Havelock Manor in person, ask about room sizes and bathroom configurations, pest control history and recent inspection results, staffing levels and training, specific policies and recent responses to any reported incidents (falls, medication errors, abuse allegations), hospice and end-of-life protocols, and a clear breakdown of pricing and any tiered fees. These targeted questions will help confirm whether the overwhelmingly positive trends in these reviews align with your expectations and safety requirements.
