    Spacious caring community with activities

I live in this 55+ independent-living community in Omaha and love it - roomy, well-insulated apartments with huge windows and breathtaking views. The staff and neighbors are warm and caring, management keeps everything well-maintained, and there are tons of activities, interest groups, a stunning private library, garden plots, and reasonably priced on-site guest rooms for family visits. One caveat: icy parking areas have caused falls, so be cautious in winter, but overall it's stress-free and highly recommended.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews portray Elmwood Tower as a highly regarded independent living community in Omaha, NE, with overwhelmingly positive sentiment. Residents and reviewers consistently emphasize the exceptional fit for adults aged 55 and over, repeatedly calling attention to the spectacular views and the bright, airy apartments with large windows. The dominant themes are independent living tailored to an older-adult population, strong community feel, and a well-run property with a wide range of amenities that appeal to varied interests.

Staff and management: Multiple reviewers describe the environment as family-like, stress-free, and supported by caring staff. Management is mentioned positively — reviewers say the community is well-managed and well-maintained — indicating reliable operational oversight. That combination of attentive staff and effective management contributes to the reported feeling of safety, welcome, and satisfaction among residents.

Facilities and accommodations: Physical facilities receive strong praise. Apartments are characterized as roomy and well-insulated, with huge windows that maximize the scenic views. Distinctive amenities include a stunning private library and individual garden plots, which add both aesthetic and recreational value. The building has controlled entrance features that reviewers note, and the availability of on-site guest rooms is highlighted as a convenience for visitors. Several reviews cite reasonable pricing for accommodations, suggesting good perceived value for independent living residents.

Activities and community life: Reviewers emphasize a robust social and activity program, mentioning interest groups for “every hobby imaginable.” This breadth of activities supports the family-like, welcoming vibe and contributes to residents describing Elmwood Tower as a fantastic place to live. The community is portrayed as friendly, healthy, and thrifty — appealing to active older adults who want engagement and social connection.

Location and convenience: The community’s Omaha location is mentioned, with reviewers noting it is convenient for loved ones to visit. On-site guest rooms and reasonably priced accommodations further support the convenience theme, making Elmwood Tower attractive both to residents and to their families.

Notable concerns and omissions: The primary specific negative pattern in the reviews relates to exterior winter conditions. Multiple reviewers call out ice in parking areas; there is at least one report of a fall and injury attributed to icy conditions. This suggests a potential seasonal safety and maintenance concern around snow/ice removal or parking-lot treatment that prospective residents and families should inquire about. Aside from that, the collected summaries contain little to no commentary about dining, level-of-care beyond independent living, or medical/clinical services; the reviews focus on independent living lifestyle, amenities, and community rather than assistance or health care offerings.

Summary assessment: In sum, Elmwood Tower is described as a well-managed, amenity-rich independent living community with outstanding views, spacious apartments, diverse activities, and a warm, family-like atmosphere. The strongest positives are community life, facilities (library, gardens, windows/views), and staff/management. The main actionable concern is winter safety related to icy parking areas; prospective residents should confirm current snow/ice-management practices and any recent improvements. Finally, because reviews center on independent living, those seeking assisted living or higher levels of medical care should verify available services separately.

    About Elmwood Tower

Elmwood Tower sits at 801 S 52nd St in Omaha, Nebraska, and folks who live here get a clear view of the city from its 23 stories, which some say go up to about 320 feet, and you know the building's got this Modernist look to it, which might catch your eye if you like something a little different. It's a place designed for people aged 55 and up, where you'll find independent living, smoke-free and pet-free, so you don't have to deal with any animals or cigarette smoke in the halls. You've got a choice of floor plans, with one-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, and they let you move walls if you wanna change up your space a bit-each unit comes with a full kitchen and bathroom, so you don't have to share. After renovations, they've got about 219 units these days, and there's still a nice dining room, an on-site laundry, and a well-lit, enclosed parking garage that helps if you're still driving or have visitors.

People who live here lease their units-they don't own them like condos-and the rooms are fireproofed and soundproofed, which helps keep things quieter in such a tall building, and if you have out-of-town guests, there are four bedrooms set aside for visitors. Elmwood Tower's got four elevators, a library, dining spaces, and a 4-acre garden, so there are places to go and things to see. The building's been around since 1964, connected to the Freemason group who built it back when it was called Masonic Manor, and you'll still see that history tied in through their website at MasonicManor.com. Back in its day, the building had one of the biggest FHA mortgages in the Midwest, which was quite a story at the time.

Elmwood Tower is set a bit away from the busiest parts of Omaha, but it's still pretty central, and you're close to things like Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium and Charles Schwab Field Omaha if you're interested in a day out. Folks who live here can take part in a lot of social, educational, and entertainment activities, and the program helps people stay active and connected. Staff get recognized for being attentive and keeping the place tidy, and the focus is on comfort and safety in a building that's secure all around. Residents don't have to worry about home maintenance, and the setting is made so people can keep their independence while having help always close by if it's needed. Elmwood Tower's got a bit of history, a strong community feel, and a setting that gives you an elevated view on life, both from your window and the way living's organized.
