    Welcoming campus, pricey with issues

I'm a resident and overall very happy with the beautiful, well-kept campus - up-to-date apartments, lovely lawns, walking paths, pool/aerobics, active social calendar and a separate memory-care wing. The staff are consistently kind, helpful and safety-minded (COVID measures, eco initiatives) and residents are engaged, but dining has been disappointing despite complaints and the pricing/buy-in is on the high side. A few units feel dated and I've had privacy concerns about bathroom cameras, but if budget and food aren't dealbreakers, it's a recommendable, welcoming community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Immanuel: Lakeside is predominantly positive, with the strongest and most consistent praise directed at staff, cleanliness, and the facility’s range of amenities. Multiple reviewers describe staff as caring, warm, attentive, and accommodating; staff performance is repeatedly cited as a major strength, contributing to a welcoming, home-like atmosphere. The property itself is often described as beautiful, clean, and well-maintained, with attractive lawns, walking paths, and a pleasant campus environment. Several reviews highlight newer construction or updated apartment options and an overall sense that the campus supports independent living through memory care on one larger, integrated campus.

Amenities receive frequent positive mention: reviewers note a well-equipped facility that includes a pool (with warm water aerobics), a movie theater, arts and crafts rooms, library, chapel, community rooms, a restaurant-style dining area, a quick-stop shop, and robust transportation options such as a good bus system. The range of activities—card clubs, movies, organized social events, wellness and fitness classes—contributes to a strong sense of community for many residents. The community’s reputation is supported by recognition such as a Best of Omaha award cited by reviewers.

Dining and culinary services are a mixed but important theme. A number of reviewers praise food quality, portion sizes, and variety, reporting a pleasant dining room experience and responsive culinary staff. At the same time, several other reviews express significant dissatisfaction: complaints about poor food quality, lack of healthy options, and slow or insufficient response to a residents’ committee petition to improve meals (noted as having no change in six months). This split suggests variability in dining experiences across time, staff, or specific units; some reviewers also mention differences in dining availability (for example, separate clubhouse or units without meals) which affected their overall impression.

Apartment quality and building condition show variability across the campus. Some residents and visitors describe up-to-date, large, clean units with in-room refrigerators and microwaves, while others report older, unremodeled apartments with dated refrigerators and stoves, dark hallways, and carpeting that has not been replaced. Several reviewers mentioned being offered second-floor apartments when they preferred first-floor units. Maintenance responsiveness is reported positively elsewhere, but the presence of older-feeling sections of the campus contributes to mixed impressions for prospective residents.

Management and operations produce both praise and concerns. Positive operational notes include transparency in pricing for some reviewers and a clear continuum of care with memory support on-site. Negative operational themes include affordability concerns: multiple reviewers pointed out that pricing was beyond their budget or involved a large upfront buy-in. Some reviewers noted long waits to open or to get units ready. There was one report of a disinterested tour guide and a separate, notable comment raising privacy and safety concerns about bathroom cameras—this latter point stands out as a serious issue for those who mentioned it and should be clarified by prospective residents.

Environmental stewardship is a distinctive positive pattern: several summaries highlight Immanuel: Lakeside’s active green initiatives, including a robust recycling program (dual-stream and glass recycling), food composting, reusing items, and eco-friendly design in new construction. These commitments appear well-developed and engaged by both staff and residents through a green team, and are consistently praised.

In summary, Immanuel: Lakeside is generally viewed as a caring, community-oriented senior campus with strong staff, wide amenities, active programming, and notable environmental initiatives. The primary areas for prospective residents to investigate further are dining consistency and healthful options, the specific condition and location of individual apartments (new vs. older units), pricing structure and any large upfront buy-ins or waitlist timelines, and the privacy/safety policies (including the reported bathroom cameras). Many reviewers would recommend the community, while a smaller subset found it not a good fit due to the issues above; the overall pattern suggests a high-quality community whose experience can vary depending on building/unit selection and dining expectations.

    About Immanuel: Lakeside

Immanuel: Lakeside sits in Omaha, Nebraska, in a quiet spot with nice views of the lake, walking paths, peaceful lawns, and parkside spaces where you'll see folks strolling or sitting outside, and it covers many types of care for seniors like independent living, assisted living, secured memory care, skilled nursing, and CCRC campus options, so you'll find different levels of support all in the same place, which can really be easier as needs change. The building has only 12 studio units, and each one includes its own private bathroom, kitchenette, air conditioning, cable TV, phone, and Wi-Fi, so each resident has privacy and the basics for comfort, and the rooms are wheelchair accessible and have controlled access for safety. For those needing special care, there's a secured memory care area with Wanderguard features, specialized dementia support, and activities meant to keep the mind active. The full-time nurse on staff, 24-hour supervision, call systems, and medication management, along with help with bathing, dressing, transfers, and daily living, mean folks get the personal care they need, when they need it, and there's always someone to lend a hand. The community offers all-inclusive pricing, so services like laundry, housekeeping, and even dry cleaning are included, and there's regular meal preparation with restaurant-style dining, all-day dining, meals for special diets like allergies or diabetes, and snacks too, so residents are well-fed and can eat with others. There are scheduled transportation services, parking, move-in help, and a concierge for little tasks. The building's got a whirlpool spa, a wellness room, a fitness area, a swimming pool with warm water, a jacuzzi, a movie theater for movie nights, a library, game rooms, arts spaces, and even a garden and secured courtyard, so there's always something to do indoors or outdoors. Residents enjoy social, educational, and recreational activities that help build friendships and keep everyone busy, and there's also spiritual care with full-time pastors and an on-site chapel, which means those who want it can take part in faith-based programs and services. Regular off-campus outings are part of the activities, and the staff always try to respond to what each person enjoys or needs by offering a range of senior care services that can be personalized. The community has specialized memory support, Home Health Care, respite care, and long-term care services, with more options for skilled nursing and related care available in Des Moines and programs like Immanuel Pathways (PACE®) in Central Iowa, Eastern Nebraska, and Southwest Iowa. Immanuel: Lakeside is focused on giving people a safe, cozy place to live with plenty of chances to socialize and stay active, while still letting folks hold on to their independence for as long as they can.
