    Caring staff, clean, welcoming community

I've lived here nearly four years and am overall very pleased. The staff are caring, friendly, and attentive; the place is clean, home-like, and well maintained. Good food, plenty of activities and outings, right-sized apartments, and strong communication make this a welcoming, safe community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Westgate Assisted Living is frequently described as a clean, modern, and welcoming assisted-living community with a strong social and activity focus. Many reviewers highlight a smaller, family-like atmosphere, renovated and light-filled private studios, and roomy common areas such as a dining room, courtyard, and theater. The facility’s location and pet-friendly policies are additional conveniences cited by families and prospective residents.

Care and staff: The dominant strength in the reviews is the caregiving team. Numerous comments praise compassionate, attentive aides and a knowledgeable nursing staff; specific leadership in wellness and nursing has been singled out positively. That said, reviewers also raised concerns about inconsistent staff conduct and high turnover in some periods. These personnel inconsistencies have been linked to variability in daily responsiveness and occasional communication gaps with families. Prospective families should expect strong individual caregiver relationships in many cases, but also ask about current staffing stability and continuity plans.

Clinical operations and billing: Reviewers generally appreciate on-site medication support and routine clinical oversight, but several raised serious operational concerns about medication administration and pharmacy coordination, as well as occasional billing or extra-fee disputes. These appear to be operational weaknesses rather than universal practices, but they are consequential when they occur. Families should request specific information about medication-safety protocols, pharmacy partners, and written billing policies before admission.

Personal care and sanitation: The facility receives mixed feedback on personal-care scheduling and sanitation. Positive accounts describe attentive bathing and escort services; other accounts describe inconsistent assistance for bathing and meal escorts and odor concerns or uneven cleanliness in some areas. These comments suggest variability in day-to-day execution of hygiene and support routines. Ask about documented care schedules, supervision of personal-care aides, and housekeeping frequency during a tour.

Dining and activities: Dining is a clear strength for many residents: menu-style service, varied options, and meals customized to dietary needs are frequently praised. Food quality and atmosphere in the dining room are consistently noted as positive. Activity programming is robust — bingo, live musicians, outings (zoo, stadium), family bingo nights, and regular social events — producing high engagement for many residents. That said, some residents did not find the programming to be a fit for their interests, and the community’s smaller size limits the breadth of specialized programming compared with larger facilities.

Scope of care and suitability: Westgate is presented as a well-suited option for residents seeking assisted living in a smaller, more personal setting. However, reviewers indicated limits in handling higher-acuity medical needs and certain mental-health or memory-care requirements; the facility may not have a dedicated memory-care unit. Prospective residents with advanced clinical needs should confirm the facility’s capabilities, physician and nursing visit schedules, and transfer policies.

Management and communication patterns: Many families praise proactive leadership and good communication from administrators; others experienced inconsistent follow-through and difficulty resolving billing or service disputes. The mixed feedback suggests variability by unit, time, or staff. During admissions, ask for examples of how management handles clinical incidents, family communication, grievances, and billing disputes.

Bottom line: Westgate offers a strong social environment, appealing physical plant, and many examples of compassionate care and good food. At the same time, reviewers note operational areas that merit direct inquiry: staffing consistency, medication and pharmacy controls, clarity on extra charges, personal-care scheduling, and the facility’s capacity for higher-acuity or memory-care needs. Prospective residents and families should tour during active hours, observe morning routines, request current staffing metrics and medication-safety policies, and obtain clear, written billing and service agreements before committing.

    About Westgate Assisted Living

Westgate Assisted Living sits at 3030 South 80th Street in a quiet, central Omaha neighborhood, and it's a place focused on supporting seniors who need a little help with daily life, so you'll find registered nurses supervising care day and night and caregivers who help with things like medication, bathing, dressing, and grooming when needed, and the staff likes to know the residents they help. The building is part of Five Star Senior Living, which brings its own set of values and a home-like feel, offering private, semi-private, studio, and even two-bedroom apartments, all with emergency call systems and climate controls, so people feel both independent and secure, and for those coming just for a short time, there are furnished respite care apartments too. Seniors can bring their pets and choose from different rooms wired with cable and internet, and if someone prefers a kitchen, there are options for kitchenette facilities in the rooms. There's parking for residents, beauty salon and barber services, and a full cleaning and laundry service that comes around each week. Three restaurant-style meals are served every day, and they manage special diets like low sodium, vegetarian, and even kosher meals if requested, plus healthy snacks and specialty menus. People gather in the dining room for food or can have room service when needed, and there's always something going on, with group activities ranging from exercise classes like Tai Chi and Wii bowling to art, music groups, Bible study, book clubs, and even cooking clubs or lifelong learning lectures. There's a movie room, library, computer area, TV lounges, and outdoor patios and gardens where folks enjoy the weather or do some gardening, and the area's secure, so people feel safe while outside. The community includes a gym, a central fireplace, a chapel for on-site religious services, and transportation that takes residents to medical appointments, errands, or outings like day trips and live music performances, with offsite activities planned regularly. Westgate Assisted Living helps with health and wellness by bringing in physical and skilled nursing services, and provides hospice care if needed, making sure spiritual needs and philanthropy opportunities are also considered. The RN-supervised program adjusts to four different levels of care on the same campus, including help for people living with Alzheimer's, and there's Medicaid assistance, VA benefits help, and financial advice for residents and their families. They keep things safe with smoke detectors, sprinkler systems, and provide utilities like Wi-Fi and basic cable, with staff always around. Housekeeping, laundry, and linen services help people keep their rooms comfortable, and maintenance-free living options are there for those who want less to worry about. Westgate Assisted Living won 'Omaha's Best Assisted Living' for several years from Omaha Magazine, which means neighbors and readers recognized the community, and the place is nestled near local medical facilities for any needed appointments. People who live here find ways to stay connected, participate in hobbies, eat together, and feel like they're at home, with staff supporting each person's independence while also stepping in whenever extra help is asked for.
