    Clean, great rehab, inconsistent staff

I had a mixed stay. The facility is very clean, the food and care were generally great, and rehab (PT/OT/speech) plus discharge-planner follow-up helped me move to an independent apartment - I would recommend it for short-term rehab. Helpful hospice nurses and some genuinely kind nursing staff were a plus, but service is inconsistent: staff can be rushed, rude or lacking compassion, and other residents complained about a traveling contractor. Overall solid for rehab and meals, but expect mixed staff quality.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews for Sutton Community Home are mixed but cluster around two clear narratives: many reviewers praise the facility for its strong clinical and support services, cleanliness, and good food, while other reviewers report inconsistent staffing and negative interpersonal experiences that undermine confidence in day-to-day care. The sentiment is polarized — several specific strengths are repeatedly highlighted, but multiple reports of rushed or rude staff and perceived lack of compassion are significant and recurring concerns.

Care quality and clinical services: The facility receives consistent praise for its rehabilitative and clinical offerings. Physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy are repeatedly mentioned as strengths. Reviewers cite effective discharge planning and follow-up, and at least one concrete positive outcome (patients rehabbing successfully to an independent apartment) is noted. Hospice nurses also receive positive mention for being helpful, indicating competency in end-of-life or palliative services. These points suggest the facility has solid clinical and therapy resources and can support transitional care effectively.

Staff performance and culture: Staff-related feedback is the most mixed and the most consequential in these summaries. Some reviewers describe "great staff" and "great care," indicating that certain employees or shifts deliver high-quality, compassionate service. However, multiple reviews describe inconsistency — "some nursing staff are nice" and "mixed staff quality" — and others explicitly report rushed, rude, unfriendly, or lacking-in-compassion behavior. This variability suggests uneven training, staffing shortages, or differences in individual caregiver approaches. Additionally, reviews reference complaints about a traveling contractor, including remarks that reference the contractor's race; this signals not only interpersonal conflict but also the potential for racially charged tensions that management should address. The presence of both highly positive and strongly negative staff reports implies that a resident's experience may depend heavily on which caregivers they interact with and when.

Facilities, cleanliness, and dining: Multiple reviewers describe the facility as "very clean," and dining is noted positively as "great food." Cleanliness and food quality are consistent strengths in the summaries provided and contribute to the more favorable aspects of the facility experience. No specific deficiencies in the physical plant are mentioned in these summaries.

Patterns and management implications: The dominant pattern is reliable clinical care and good physical/environmental conditions combined with uneven interpersonal care. The coexistence of strong therapy and discharge outcomes alongside reports of rushed or insensitive nursing care points toward operational issues that are often managerial in nature — staffing levels, training, supervision, and workplace culture. The racially referenced complaint about a traveling contractor also highlights an area where management attention is required, both to ensure an inclusive environment and to manage resident-contractor interactions professionally.

What a prospective resident or family should note: If you value strong rehabilitative services, effective discharge planning, cleanliness, and good dining, Sutton Community Home appears to have clear strengths. If consistent day-to-day personal care and warm interpersonal interactions are critical, be aware that experiences appear variable; ask management about staffing ratios, training programs, turnover, how complaints are handled, and whether they have measures in place to ensure consistent, compassionate care across all shifts and contractors. The mixed nature of the reviews indicates that outcomes and satisfaction may depend on timing, assigned staff, and how the facility manages personnel and cultural issues.

    About Sutton Community Home

Sutton Community Home sits at 1106 North Saunders Ave and has served older adults since 1964, providing a home-like space for people who need different kinds of care, and the place stays pretty active with both residents and staff focusing on daily routines so everyone gets the support they need, whether it's skilled nursing, assisted living, or short-term rehab, which they can get under the names Sutton Community Home and Hillcrest View Assisted Living, and the staff always seems to be working at keeping things family-oriented and professional. The building's all on one level, so it's easy for people with walkers or wheelchairs to get around, and there are common areas where people gather indoors for meals, activities, and devotional times, and from the windows some rooms have really nice views, which seems to help people feel more settled. They serve three meals a day that are freshly made, and staff help with things like moving from beds to wheelchairs, taking care of folks who can't walk on their own, and managing conditions like diabetes and incontinence, so there's always a little peace of mind knowing someone is nearby twenty-four hours if something happens. The whole place is pet-friendly, which a lot of residents seem to like, and folks can spend time outside or go on trips off-site now and then if they want a change of pace, and the staff also work with local healthcare providers to make sure everyone's on the same page when it comes to personal care. The facility's Medicaid waiver certification helps some residents get the support they need, and the care can include both end-of-life support and short-term rehabilitation, so residents and their families can choose what works best. Since Hillcrest View Assisted Living was added in 2002, they've offered different floorplans and options for people who need more or less help each day, and the staff create care plans that fit each person, helping them stay independent as long as possible. The staff puts focus on community, helping people join in activities on-site to keep moving, talking, or relaxing, and there's always someone to lend a hand or listen. The gallery online shows simple moments, and the facilities look welcoming, cozy, and pretty tidy, all designed for ease and comfort. Sutton Community Home's mission centers on serving with quality care, and it's been a steady part of the town for many years, using a capital campaign from time to time for needed improvements or new ideas, all driven by the goal of keeping residents safe, supported, and comfortable, whether they stay for a short time or call it home.
