    Clean bright homey, limited activities

I toured Maple View Memory Care and overall I'm pleased - the place is clean, bright and homey with friendly, welcoming staff who smile and keep relatives informed. My mom seems happy and the rooms and activity area are nice, but it's small and sometimes short-staffed: she was left in her room too much and engagement is limited (few hands-on or gender-specific activities, no exercise room). There was an occasional urine smell in her room that's being addressed and some furnishings felt dated. Overall satisfied with the care and would recommend, but check location and financing.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is cautiously positive: many relatives and visitors express satisfaction with the care provided at Maple View Memory Care Bismarck and say they would recommend the community. Multiple reviewers call the staff friendly, kind, interactive and helpful, and several emphasize that staff keep relatives informed. The community is described by a number of reviewers as welcoming, calming, and homey. Physical spaces like the dining area and hallways are frequently noted as cheery, bright, and clean, which contributes to an overall pleasant environment for residents.

Care quality and staff interactions are a central strength according to several summaries. Reviewers commonly report that their family members seem happy with staff and the care they receive. Positive anecdotes include staff smiles, helpfulness during tours, and communication with relatives. At the same time, there are mixed reports: a few reviewers described episodes of indifference where a resident was allowed to stay in a room all day and felt overlooked. Short-staffing is mentioned as a concern that could be linked to variability in engagement levels; while many staff interactions are praised, some reviews indicate staffing shortages affect attention and activity participation.

Facilities and cleanliness show a split in perception. Many reviewers highlight that the community is clean, inviting, and smells pleasant, with large well-lit hallways and a tidy dining area. Conversely, several reviewers call out outdated furnishings — worn carpet, old furniture, and missing curtains in rooms — that make parts of the facility feel dated. One reviewer reported a urine smell in a room, but also noted management took steps to address it. These points suggest the community maintains general cleanliness and a pleasant public environment while some private/resident spaces could use updating or more attentive maintenance.

Activities and engagement are the most consistent area of concern. Multiple summaries mention a lack of activities and stimulation, a desire for more hands-on and gender-specific programming, and no dedicated exercise room. Although there is a noted “nice area for activities,” reviewers want more frequent, varied, and purposeful engagement opportunities for residents. This gap is significant for memory-care residents, where stimulation and structured programming are important for quality of life.

Safety, management, and logistics show mixed feedback. One reviewer raised an unverified concern about possible theft, which should be investigated further by prospective families. Financing and billing conversations were flagged as needing more attention in at least one review, and location or distance was mentioned as a downside for some families—useful considerations when evaluating accessibility. On the positive side, several reviewers specifically called out that staff or management keep relatives informed, and many would recommend the facility, indicating overall trust in day-to-day operations despite the issues noted.

In summary, Maple View Memory Care Bismarck appears to offer a warm, home-like environment with many caring and communicative staff members and generally clean, bright common areas. The facility’s small size (about 23 residents) contributes to an intimate atmosphere that many families appreciate. The main improvement areas are activity programming (more variety, hands-on and gender-specific options, and exercise facilities), updating some room furnishings and finishes, and addressing staffing consistency so residents receive regular engagement. Prospective families should weigh the strong caregiving reports and pleasant communal spaces against the reported need for more stimulation, occasional facility wear, and any logistical issues like location or billing. Any specific concerns such as reports of theft or odor should be discussed directly with management during a tour to see how they are handled and resolved.

About Maple View Memory Care Bismarck

Maple View Memory Care Bismarck sits on Montreal Street and offers care for people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and it's been around since 2006 when the owners bought an existing memory care facility and put extra work into it with a remodel and addition in 2015, and now the building holds up to 36 basic care beds, which means it can handle a pretty good number of folks at once, but still keep things close-knit and homey, with well-lit, clean halls and a secure setup to help stop confusion and wandering. The facility follows a person-centered approach for memory care and supports people with cognitive problems with help from highly trained caregivers, which includes RNs, LPNs, and CNAs who know memory loss inside and out, and Maple View runs with a bit higher staff-to-resident ratio than some places, so folks get extra attention and the staff can keep a good eye on everyone and help out when needed, any time day or night, including helping with medicines and handling health emergencies. Residents there get custom health plans, and the staff uses Montessori-based programs, which aim to promote independence, self-assurance, and a routine so people feel calm, safe, and like they have a part in their own daily lives, and the activities run by the activity coordinator, Robyn, focus on keeping minds active, whether that means social time, games, music, or something crafty.

They've set up the place for people from Bismarck, Burleigh County, and Region VII, and along with long-term living, Maple View offers respite care, so families can take a break, and also runs the Family Caregiver Support Program, which can give some tips and help for relatives who are doing their best to support their loved ones at home. The place is part of a bigger network with other Maple View communities in North Dakota, and it's known as one of the bigger names in the state for memory care, though it runs independently at each site. The director there is Lana Charvat, who's an RN and BSN, and the team has nurse managers with many years of experience, plus a resident services manager, activity aides, medication management, and a CNA. The way Maple View is set up, with a failure-free approach and rooms built for comfort and safety, means seniors with memory loss get the right support to avoid feeling lost or left out, and the charge covers everything at an affordable daily rate, so families don't have to juggle a big list of separate fees. The Olympic goal around there's just to make sure every day can be as good as it gets for people living with memory impairment, with staff who know their residents and treat each one with respect and dignity, helping folks stay as engaged, comfortable, and happy as possible, using new techniques and activities that fit what each person needs.
