    Friendly, spotless, pricey but safe

I live here and overall I'm very pleased - staff are friendly, attentive and well-led (Kari stands out), the place is spotless, dining is excellent with an on-site chef, and there are plentiful classes, pool and studio workouts included in one monthly price. My main concerns are the high cost and occasional lapses in communication (unanswered phones) and pool safety/closures. Despite that, I feel cared for, safe, and would recommend it for active seniors who can afford it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for staff, cleanliness, dining, activities, and the quality of the physical campus. Reviewers consistently describe Touchmark at Harwood Groves as a beautiful, well-maintained facility with spacious apartments, attractive grounds and gardens, and a broad variety of onsite amenities—such as a heated pool, fitness studio and classes, physical therapy room, salon, chapel, library, and movie room. Many reviewers emphasize a cruise-ship or upscale restaurant vibe driven by high-quality food (chef on premises, homemade soups, salad bar) and restaurant-style service across multiple dining areas and a bar. The property is credited with creating a social, family-like culture where residents are welcomed by name, staff are engaging and personable, and celebrations and events are common.

Care and staffing are commonly cited as strengths. Numerous reviews call out compassionate, professional, and attentive staff across administrative, nursing, and dining teams. Safety features such as pendants, call buttons, and a 24-hour nurse on staff are noted positively, and memory care is specifically described as a distinct, well-run unit with its own outdoor area, activities, and private bathrooms/showers. Several families reported seamless transitions into memory care and satisfaction with care quality. At the same time, there are mixed signals about the scope of clinical care: while many reviews reference nursing staff and on-site nursing care, others explicitly state there is no nursing home-level care or that there is not enough care available for higher acuity needs. This suggests Touchmark functions primarily as assisted living with memory care and some nursing support, but prospective residents needing skilled nursing should verify service limits.

Activities and social programming receive glowing reviews. Residents enjoy frequent, varied programming—exercise classes (including pool workouts and lap times), games, cards, bingo, puzzles, trips, dances, and communal events—and staff often participate, contributing to an upbeat, engaging environment. Dining events, Friday popcorn socials, and outings create regular opportunities for socialization. Multiple reviewers highlight that participation is actively encouraged and that the atmosphere supports residents staying healthy and active. That said, a few reviews indicate some residents need additional encouragement to join activities, which is common in mixed-ability communities.

Despite the many strengths, several recurring concerns are noteworthy and relatively specific. The pool—although a major amenity and the site of many praised fitness classes—was singled out in multiple reviews for safety and maintenance problems: murky water, frequent closures, and reports that pool staff were distracted and did not observe safety issues. At least one reviewer called out a management response they felt was unresponsive to those concerns. Communication and operational responsiveness are otherwise praised in many reviews, but there are isolated reports of phone lines being unresponsive, lack of proactive progress reporting, and occasional coordination issues around scheduling and routine care updates. Cost and perceived value also appear as a mixed theme: many reviewers call the community expensive (and recommend budgeting accordingly), while one review described it as the cheapest in the area but reported intolerable conditions leading to departure. These contradictions underscore the need for prospective residents and families to clarify pricing, fees, and expectations in writing.

In summary, Touchmark at Harwood Groves is portrayed as a top-tier assisted living and memory care community built around strong hospitality, excellent dining, abundant activities, and a highly social atmosphere. The majority of reviews praise staff warmth, facility cleanliness, and the broad array of amenities. The most significant areas to investigate further in person are pool safety and maintenance practices, the exact scope of nursing/skilled care available, and specific cost and communication practices—especially phone responsiveness and how the community handles progress updates and safety concerns. For seniors seeking an active, amenity-rich lifestyle with attentive staff and restaurant-quality dining, the community appears to be an excellent fit. For those requiring consistent skilled nursing care or who are highly sensitive to pool-safety and management responsiveness, follow-up questions and onsite verification are advisable.

    About Touchmark at Harwood Groves

Touchmark at Harwood Groves sits at 1200 Harwood Dr S in Fargo, in the River Drive neighborhood, right there in North Dakota where there are legal protections for LGBTQ individuals and people with different sources of income, and you'll find it's not listed for sale or rent right now, being off-market at present, which can happen as sometimes places fill up or keep things private on those listing sites, and when you look at the place, what you see are well-kept grounds with private cottages and apartment homes that come in different layouts like studio, one-, and two-bedrooms, including some with dens, and those have features like full kitchens, large closets, gas fireplaces, and emergency response systems, plus pet-friendly choices, so there is a range for all kinds of folks. Cottages have attached garages, walk-in closets, vaulted ceilings, and details like hardwood floors and granite counters, which people tend to appreciate for both looks and practicality, and cottage residents also get a membership to the Health & Fitness Club and daily chef-prepared meals if they want them.

The building itself is an apartment community designed with comfort and ease of navigation in mind and, while some of the specifics about parking aren't clear, they do offer transportation services throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area, so getting around is manageable for most. Touchmark offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care, along with skilled nursing and continuing care, and provides support with activities like housekeeping, grooming, and local transportation, plus a 24-hour emergency response system that helps people feel more secure. For those in assisted living or needing more hands-on support, staff will help with daily tasks, medication management, and offer person-centered care plans that change as needed, holding regular care conferences and bringing in licensed nurses to oversee health, do assessments, and support both the residents and care teams, and when it comes to memory care, they've got specific, secured areas and programs for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, focusing on safety, routine, and engaging daily experiences.

People living here find plenty to do, with group and individual fitness classes at the on-site Health & Fitness Club, programs run by Full Life Wellness & Life Enrichment, art trips like going to the Rourke Art Museum, cultural outings, and both on-campus and off-campus events to keep life interesting. The dining program lets residents choose between cooking at home or enjoying chef-prepared meals in a community dining room, and there's an on-site coffeehouse and market, which adds a comfortable gathering spot for coffee or groceries, while cottages have private dining options if folks prefer. Amenities cover things like a library, massage therapy, on-site salon and barbershop, monthly activity calendars, Wi-Fi, and an outdoor Waterford Heritage Garden, and pets are allowed, which many people like for companionship.

Touchmark at Harwood Groves aims to let people age in place, minimizing the need to move as care needs change, and they've put systems in place, both staff and technology, to adjust services to individual needs-whether that's basic support, memory assistance, or higher level nursing care, and they focus on respecting independence and keeping life meaningful as folks get older. The environment feels welcoming and homelike, with residents and visitors describing it as clean and attractive, and both staff and management, like Executive Director Anne-Marie Fitz, have earned recognition for being attentive, helpful, and friendly, which has brought in awards for being the Most Friendly and Best of Senior Living. Beds are divided as 38 for basic care and 80 for assisted living, with none listed for nursing facility, which shows their main focus areas. The office keeps regular hours throughout the week, with some shorter weekend times, and there is always an emergency contact-Jerry Johnson-highlighting their preparedness.

People find community at Touchmark, whether they're drawn to cottages for privacy or apartments for convenience, and residents participate in social dining and activities, with support there if it's needed, strong attention to health and wellness, and every detail focused on helping people live with dignity, choice, and connection, not overlooking anyone or pushing flashiness, but simply aiming to provide what older adults ask for: a safe place with good food, caring staff, access to activities, and help as needed to keep enjoying life.
