    Beautiful facility, caring staff, pricey

I moved my mother here and overall we're very pleased - the facility is beautiful and homey, staff are warm, knowledgeable and caring, the food is excellent and activities are plentiful. That said, there are staffing shortages, communication hiccups, occasional missed showers/laundry and inconsistent housekeeping, and it's pricey. Tour in person - it could be excellent if you accept the cost and occasional service lapses.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive on frontline caregiving, dining, activities, and the physical environment, with recurring concerns centered on staffing, communication, and inconsistent execution of care and housekeeping tasks. Many reviewers emphasize the kindness, attentiveness, and personal relationships staff form with residents; phrases like “staff as extended family,” “aids caring,” and “staff know residents by name” appear repeatedly. Multiple families praised specific employees (aides, nurses, and the move-in coordinator) for being patient, knowledgeable, and supportive during transition and daily care. Memory care receives particularly strong and consistent praise: reviewers describe daily guidance and stimulating activities for dementia/Alzheimer’s, calling memory care “great” and noting that some residents are “flourishing.” Several reviews also note reliable clinical resources on-site (24-hour nurse, doctor visits twice weekly) and describe medical staff as helpful.

Dining and activities are another strong, recurrent positive. “Delicious” and “very good” food is mentioned often, with specific mentions of accommodated diets (gluten-free in one review), barbecued ribs, and consistent praise for meal quality. The community is reported to offer a wide array of activities — exercise classes, music and aroma therapies, nail care, games, karaoke, holiday events, and social outings — with many reviewers saying activities are interesting, varied, and contribute to residents’ social thriving. Multiple comments highlight a social, vacation-like atmosphere where residents make friends and staff are actively involved in facilitating participation.

Physical facilities and ambience are generally praised: reviewers describe the building as light, bright, clean, and homey, with beautiful decor, artwork, pleasant courtyards, and desirable apartment features such as sliding patio doors. Several reviewers characterized the environment as well-kept and comfortable, and others called it “beautiful,” “cozy,” and “up-to-date.” The move-in experience and admissions staff frequently receive positive comments for being helpful and patient.

However, there are notable and recurring negatives that temper many positive impressions. Staffing shortages and high turnover are consistent themes: reviewers report overworked and underpaid aides, inadequate staffing especially on weekends or nights, and frequent staff changes that can affect continuity of care. These workforce challenges are connected to concrete lapses in care detailed in multiple reviews: missed showers, failure to change sheets on multiple occasions, delayed assistance after falls, missed or lost laundry and groceries, and inconsistent housekeeping. Several reviewers reported that these issues led them to not recommend the community for assisted living, even when other aspects were positive.

Management and communication are other areas of concern. Multiple comments note administrative communication gaps, marketing that feels pushy, policy changes that families find problematic, and perceptions that administration is motivated by revenue (rent hikes, donation box) rather than resident welfare. A few reviews describe severe breakdowns in management — citing ineffective directors despite having intelligent administrators, denial of weekend doctor access, or a staff member being fired after a negative review. These managerial criticisms are often tied to the operational issues (housekeeping inconsistencies, maintenance problems, and perceived deterioration) that diminish trust for some families.

Cleanliness receives mixed reports: many reviewers describe the facility as clean and well-maintained, while a small but severe subset reports significant problems, including persistent urine/feces odor and unsafe conditions requiring health department attention. These extreme accounts stand in contrast to the majority who find the facility tidy, suggesting variability across units, shifts, or time periods. Construction and maintenance work is mentioned in a few reviews and can contribute to disruption and perceptions of deterioration depending on the situation.

Cost and value show divided views. Several reviewers praise the community as offering good value given the range of amenities (medical staff, activities, meals, housekeeping), whereas others say the prices are prohibitive, rooms are expensive or small, and rent increases or added fees make the community unaffordable for some. This split suggests pricing sensitivity: families who prioritize high-quality activities, memory care, and medical access may see the fee as justified, while those on tighter budgets or expecting higher consistency in basic services feel the cost is not matched by reliability.

In summary, Cherry Blossom Senior Living receives strong, repeated commendations for compassionate frontline staff, high-quality dining, robust activities, and attractive living spaces — particularly for memory care residents. Yet persistent issues around staffing shortages, turnover, communication, and inconsistent execution of routine care (housekeeping, laundry, timely assistance) are significant and recurring concerns that lead some families to withhold recommendation. The community may be a very good fit for families who prioritize social programming, food, and a warm environment and who can confirm staffing and housekeeping reliability at the unit/shift level; families most concerned about consistent daily care tasks, price sensitivity, or administrative responsiveness should investigate those specific areas thoroughly during tours and follow-up conversations.

    About Cherry Blossom Senior Living

Cherry Blossom Senior Living sits in Columbus, close to Mt. Carmel East off Broad Street, with a white exterior, cupola, and a drive-under entrance that makes it feel welcoming right from the start, and you'll see when pulling up that the place looks quiet and kept-up, the sort of spot where you're not really worrying about mowing grass or fixing things, since they take care of it all for you. The property offers independent living cottages, assisted living apartments, and secure memory care units, which means people can move in and pick what's best for their needs, and if anyone needs more help later, they don't have to leave to get it. The stand-alone cottages have dark gray slate roofs, black shutters, garages, and friendly walkways that are made for easy living, and folks in cottages get housekeeping, yard care, transportation, and access to every service on the main property, so it really is maintenance-free living without feeling crowded.

The assisted living and memory care buildings have cozy living and dining areas, full of natural light, with white dining tables, comfortable sofas, and accents like a warm fireplace and stylish decor that give a home-like feel, and you'll find theaters showing movies, fitness centers, a club room, bistro, and even a Cherry Blossom Cafe where residents can have a snack or meet up with neighbors. The dining program is restaurant-style, with a chef making three hot meals a day, and for those who live in assisted or independent apartments, there's plenty of space to relax, eat, and watch TV together. Each apartment comes with an emergency response system, while memory care residents have secure entries and state-of-the-art security, so folks who need more support, especially with memory loss, can still feel safe and independent.

The memory care unit gives each resident a private bedroom with a queen bed, bedside table, and space for personal touches, all in bright, inviting surroundings. All the staff in memory care receive Certified Dementia Practitioner Training, and there's the Varietas Memory Care Program using personalized care plans, along with activities for cognitive engagement, the BBET approach to help with mood and behavior, and a focus on expressive arts, music, nutrition, and reminiscing. There's also short-term memory care for families that need regular help, maybe during illness or travel.

The Wellness Director works with every resident to make a Personal Service Plan, handled quietly so people get exactly the help they need, like medication, bathing, mobility, or grooming, but are left alone when they prefer. There's always a licensed nurse on-site, day and night, and people can join social hours, go to chapel services, take exercise classes, participate in religious groups, or join in on movie nights, walking groups, day trips, and parties. There's a beauty salon, outdoor patios with fire pits, walking trails, pub, and plenty of common areas filled with natural light and comfortable seating, so finding a place to rest or chat isn't ever a problem. The place stays connected with the local community and medical providers, so anyone who needs more care or specialty visits isn't far from help, and transportation is provided for appointments and group outings. Housekeeping and laundry are included for those who need it, and all the utilities are handled, so folks don't end up bothered with bills.

Cherry Blossom has a focus on safety and dignity, and after a recent state survey, the community has a record of zero deficiencies, which means they meet all required standards. The management is locally owned, which keeps things personal, and they're committed to helping each resident live with choice and comfort, whether someone prefers the privacy of a cottage, the extra help in an apartment, or the support of memory care. People can join fitness activities, artistic programs, religious services, enjoy meals together, relax by the fire, or just watch a movie on a plush reclining chair in the theater room surrounded by classic movie posters, and that's the kind of day-to-day you see here-easy, safe, and as social as someone wants it to be, in a place built for seniors to live how they choose.
