    Beautiful campus inconsistent care caution

I have mixed feelings. The campus, apartments and activities are beautiful, and many staff are caring, professional and helpful-rehab and dining can be excellent. But I also witnessed inconsistent nursing, understaffing, cleanliness and management/billing problems (medication/IV delays, occasional neglect, poor dementia care), so I recommend only after a very thorough tour and asking about staffing, policies and past incidents.

    Summary review

Overall impression: Reviews for Country Club Retirement Campus are strongly mixed and polarized. A substantial number of reviewers praise the campus as beautiful, well-maintained, and resort-like, and they report warm, compassionate, professional caregiving and excellent rehabilitation services. At the same time, an equally substantial set of reviews describe systemic problems: understaffing, care lapses, management failures, and serious safety and clinical concerns. This division suggests the facility may provide excellent experiences for some residents and families while creating significant risks and negative outcomes for others, depending on unit, staffing, timing, or specific needs.

Care quality and clinical concerns: The most serious themes relate to inconsistent or inadequate clinical care. Several reviews recount neglectful episodes such as residents left in bed for long periods, urine- and feces-soiled bedding, unaddressed weight loss, skin infections, and failure to follow care plans. There are reports of medication and IV mishaps including medications left out, IVs not started, and long delays in providing fluids that led to ER visits and readmissions. Dementia care is specifically noted as deficient in multiple summaries; staff reportedly were not trained or prepared to manage dementia-related needs. There are also reports of falls with injury and at least one account of staff termination tied to abandoning residents. These incidents indicate potentially serious variability in clinical oversight and frontline nursing performance.

Staffing, training, and workplace issues: Staffing and workforce issues emerge as a core driver of negative experiences. Many reviewers describe aides and nurses as overworked and understaffed, with high turnover and poor work-life balance. Some employees are said to be punished or badly managed around break times, and internal policies are described as unclear. Conversely, many reviewers also single out caregivers as compassionate, friendly, and professional — suggesting that quality varies by individual staff members or shifts. The mix of high praise for certain staff and harsh criticism for others points to inconsistencies in training, supervision, and staff retention.

Management, administration, and communication: Multiple reviews call out poor administrative oversight and problematic management. Complaints include unresponsive or unavailable administrators, difficulty coordinating care or discharges, frustrating billing and insurance interactions, and allegations of financial mishandling (including attempts to keep resident funds and unexpected out-of-pocket charges). Several reviewers describe the facility as unorganized and poorly run, while others praise admissions and administrative staff as professional. Privacy and policy concerns are also raised by mentions of surveillance cameras and audio monitoring. Taken together, these comments indicate that leadership and policy enforcement may be inconsistent, contributing to varied family experiences.

Facilities, cleanliness, and accessibility: Physically, the campus receives largely positive comments for appearance — many call it beautiful, up-to-date, and resort-like, with pleasant outdoor spaces, a courtyard pond, and appealing apartments. However, this is counterbalanced by a range of cleanliness and accessibility complaints: some reviewers report dirty conditions, dingy or dark areas, narrow hallways, small windows, dorm-like kitchens with limited cooking facilities, and parts of the building that are not handicap accessible. Cleanliness reports are also mixed; while some say the facility is always clean, others describe beds soiled and rooms neglected. This suggests that environmental standards may vary across units and times.

Dining and activities: Dining and activities are another area of mixed feedback. Many reviewers applaud the food, describing it as restaurant-quality and adaptable to resident preferences, and they praise the activity offerings and social, family-like atmosphere. Others report cold meals, poor food quality, neglected meal delivery (including a report of no food for days), and inconsistent dining experiences. Activity programs and community life are generally seen as positive in a number of summaries, contributing to strong social connections for residents in those cases.

Rehabilitation, discharge, and billing processes: Several families recommend the campus for skilled nursing and rehabilitation, describing excellent rehab care and staff who go above and beyond. However, there are also specific reports of discharge coordination problems such as missing oxygen equipment at discharge, unexpected charges for extra days, and insurance/payment disputes. These administrative and logistical failures can turn an otherwise good clinical rehab experience into a stressful transition for families.

Patterns and likely root causes: The recurring pattern is variability. Multiple reviewers report outstanding, caring staff and excellent rehab outcomes, while others experience neglect, clinical lapses, and administrative dysfunction. Common root causes implied by reviews include understaffing and high turnover, inconsistent training (especially for dementia and complex clinical needs), poor management and oversight, and weak communication and billing processes. Environmental quality appears high in many areas but is inconsistently maintained in others.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: If considering Country Club Retirement Campus, it is important to: (1) request specifics about staffing ratios, nurse availability, and dementia training; (2) inquire about recent incidents, complaint resolution processes, and staff turnover; (3) observe cleanliness, mealtime processes, and activity engagement during multiple visits and different times of day; (4) verify discharge procedures, equipment availability, and billing/insurance practices in writing; and (5) ask about surveillance policies and resident privacy. Families with residents who have complex medical or dementia care needs should probe clinical protocols, emergency response times, and how care plans are implemented and audited.

Conclusion: Country Club Retirement Campus clearly has strengths — an attractive campus, many caring and professional staff, and positive rehab outcomes for some residents. However, the facility also shows troubling and potentially dangerous inconsistencies in clinical care, staffing, and administration according to multiple reviews. The mixed nature of feedback suggests potential for excellent care under the right circumstances but also real risk of neglect or administrative failure. Careful, targeted questioning and on-site evaluation across different days and shifts are essential before choosing this community for a loved one.

    About Country Club Retirement Campus

Country Club Retirement Campus stands across from Union Country Club and has provided senior care since 1974, so it's been around quite a while and folks have come to trust the way they do things here, and you see it's an apartment-style community with one- and two-bedroom independent living apartments, as well as large, private assisted living suites, and even private rehab rooms with private showers for those coming in for rehab, and they've got single and double occupancy options too. Residents get to enjoy a country club feel, with house amenities like a three-story atrium filled with plants and a waterfall, furnished lounges, natural light pouring through big windows, garden areas outside, and two restaurants that serve made-to-order meals along with seasonal and ethnic foods-plus they do summer cookouts pretty often. They don't forget about everyday needs like housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance, and they also help with personal laundry and linen service, so things can stay tidy and comfortable without much hassle. You'll find a chapel on-site where they hold daily chapel services, Sunday worship, Bible study, hymn sing-alongs, and other religious services, and they welcome visits and programs from community groups that bring entertainment and host activities like art, craft making, games, exercise, outings, music, and even intergenerational programs.

The nursing staff is on hand 24 hours a day for any personal or medical help, and with skilled nurses and caregivers, medical attention is only seconds away if needed, which gives families and residents more peace of mind, especially since the campus has a continuum of care, so if someone's needs change, moving from independent to assisted living or to more complex care like skilled nursing or memory care is much easier, and they don't have to leave the campus. For those who need therapies, they've got a therapy department with advanced technology, including a state-of-the-art therapy gym, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, heat and cold treatments, and a hydrotherapy pool for exercises and rehab, and therapy teams make custom plans to help residents build and keep their independence. They offer services tied to helping seniors manage daily tasks, get stronger, and recover faster, which can sometimes mean being able to go home sooner after an illness or hospital stay. If breathing issues are a concern, they have a five-star respiratory unit supervised by a Board Certified Pulmonologist, providing care like ventilator weaning, tracheostomy care, BIPAP and CPAP therapy, and high flow oxygen, all within larger private rooms with showers, and wound-certified nurses are there day and night for anyone who needs them.

At Country Club Retirement Campus, life isn't all about health care, since they focus on staying active with a health club, fitness and wellness programs, massage, weight management, and swimming in the hydrotherapy pool, along with life enrichment activities-from outings and field trips to VA aid help, shopping trips, music, games, crafts, discussion groups, and reminiscing. They have transportation and shopping services to make errands easier, and they make room for pets, so residents don't have to leave their animals behind. The apartments and units have kitchens with appliances, so people can cook if they like, and Wi-Fi and computers are available in common areas. For folks needing beauty or salon services, there's a beauty and barber shop right on campus. Memory care is available and certified through the Ohio Department of Aging, and every living space-whether independent or assisted-comes with the right blend of privacy and support. The setting is cheerful, with lots of color and natural light, and the design makes it easy to see friends and join social activities in the spacious community rooms. Country Club Retirement Campus aims to help residents feel at home, offering simple comforts and enough services to support seniors with a wide range of needs as they age.
