    Caring staff beautiful facility recommended

I placed my mom here and I'm very glad I did - the staff are genuinely caring, attentive, and treat residents like family, providing excellent, personalized care and prompt nurse updates. The facility is beautiful, spotlessly maintained, with good food, lots of activities (music, salon, exercise, outings) and seamless rehab/assisted-living transitions. They went above and beyond during COVID and final-days care; a few occasions of short-staffing or brusque office interactions were noted, but overall our family is grateful and I highly recommend this community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is strongly positive with recurring praise for the facility’s physical condition, compassionate care, and breadth of amenities, while a minority of reviews report staffing and communication concerns. The property is consistently described as new, beautiful, bright, and pristinely maintained. Residents and families highlight studio, one- and two-bedroom units with modern features — kitchens with dishwashers, double sinks, washers and dryers, walk-in showers with built-in seats, screened-in porches, garages, and cottages — which supports a high level of independent living comfort. Public spaces and cleaning receive repeated compliments: spotless housekeeping, pleasant/no offensive smells, timely snow removal and lawn care, and well-kept dining and activity areas.

Care quality and staff performance emerge as the strongest themes. Many reviews describe attentive, compassionate nurses and aides, a dedicated Director of Nursing, skilled PT staff, and good physician/NP access (specific providers named positively). Staff are frequently characterized as going above and beyond, treating residents and families like family, accommodating dietary preferences, and celebrating occasions like birthdays. Multiple accounts praise personalized care during end-of-life situations and effective coordination with Hospice. Rehabilitation stays and COVID recovery cases were cited as examples of high clinical competence and supportive care. In addition, the facility is noted to have 24/7 nursing presence in an adjoining building and a clear pathway to assisted living or nursing care if residents’ needs change.

Amenities, activities, and lifestyle programming are also prominent positives. Reviewers mention an active calendar (exercise, music visits, cards, pool table, outdoor picnics), on-site services (café, barber/beauty shop, hair salon, laundry room), and pleasant outdoor visitation spaces. Staff-facilitated remote visits during COVID were appreciated when in-person restrictions applied. Meals are frequently praised (called gourmet by some), including the staff’s willingness to accommodate favorites and special events. The community atmosphere is described as welcoming and supportive, with residents participating in singing and dancing and staff engaging positively in events.

Despite the overwhelmingly favorable feedback, several important concerns and mixed impressions are present and should be noted. Cost is a recurring point: some reviewers consider the community price-conscious but still too expensive, and there are mentions of potential extra charges for items like bar stools, suggesting that transparency around fees could be improved. Operational issues are reported in a minority of reviews: short-staffing at times, at least one report of rude or unsupportive office staff, and an allegation of a resident being made fun of — a serious claim that contrasts sharply with other reports of compassionate care. COVID-related policies led to limited tours and feelings of isolation for some; while others praised the facility’s COVID safety record and staff efforts to maintain connections. A few reviewers warned that appearances can be misleading, implying that prospective families should verify staffing levels and care quality rather than relying solely on the facility’s aesthetics.

Patterns and recommendations: The dominant pattern is high satisfaction with the physical environment, clinical care, and activity/lifestyle offerings, underpinned by a family-owned, mission-driven leadership presence. However, prospective residents and families should ask targeted questions during tours about staffing ratios, how the community handles additional charges or itemized costs, policies on family communication, and how the community prevents and addresses any disrespectful behavior. Given the mixed reports around admissions interactions and tour access during peak COVID restrictions, arranging an owner-guided tour and speaking with current families or recent admissions may provide a clearer, up-to-date picture of day-to-day operations. In sum, Park Village Southside is repeatedly described as a high-quality, well-appointed community with compassionate staff and robust amenities, but due diligence on pricing transparency and staffing consistency is advisable based on the reviews provided.

    About Park Village Southside

Park Village Southside sits at 1019 Oldtown Valley Rd SE, right in the heart of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and it's a big place, about 90,000 square feet, where seniors find all levels of care, so you'll notice they've got independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even rehabilitation and respite care all together, which means people can move through different care levels without leaving the community. The independent living area has duplex cottages that come with full kitchens, living and dining spaces, two bedrooms, a laundry room, screened-in porch, and a one-car garage, so residents who want more privacy and space have a place, while the assisted living section has 72 units that range from studios to two-bedroom apartments, and the skilled nursing part includes 38 private rehab and nursing units, including two suites for extra comfort. Residents find good food here in four dining rooms, two private dining rooms for family visits, and a café, and there's meal preparation with options for special diets. Park Village Southside offers a game room, library, two large areas for activities, a chapel, a theater, a two-story atrium with a water feature, and common areas with fireplaces, so there are several places to gather or enjoy quiet moments. The outdoor space includes patios, a garden, walking trails, and there's even a one-acre pond for peaceful views or strolls. The staff help with bathing, dressing, transfers, medication, and move-in coordination, and there's 24-hour supervision with a call system, which gives residents and families peace of mind. They'll tackle many healthcare needs, such as diabetic care, incontinence care, and non-ambulatory care, plus they cover rehabilitation, palliative care, adult day care, and hospice, and they accept Medicare and Medicaid. Residents or visitors often notice the barber and salon, spa, fitness room, business room, and scheduled transportation. Devotional activities happen on site, and off-site outings keep life interesting, while legal protections for residents cover many backgrounds and identities. Pets aren't allowed here, and while there's talk of parking and transportation, there's little about those details. The staff work hard to make the place safe, clean, and caring, and Park Village Southside's been reviewed as offering high-quality care, all run by Park Village Al Np LLC, a for-profit company. The community offers a secure and modern setting, fitting for seniors with different needs who want a place with many services and spaces to enjoy as they get older.
