    Welcoming safe well-maintained community living

I toured Hawthorne and knew it was the right place. It's a welcoming, safe, well-constructed community with excellent staff, well-maintained facilities, lots of activities and very active residents - real community spirit. Rooms are spacious and many have attached garages; note one-bed units lack a bathtub (two-bedrooms have tubs and are more common). Some construction is still ongoing and there's a waiting list. It isn't inexpensive, but for independence, safety and the lifestyle it's worth the investment - I highly recommend it.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive: residents and visitors consistently describe Hawthorne Commons as a welcoming, safe, and well-run community. Multiple reviewers emphasize the active nature of the resident population and the breadth of activities offered, portraying a social environment where seniors remain engaged and independent. The facility’s location and physical attributes (spacious rooms, attached garages, and well-constructed, well-maintained buildings) receive repeated praise, and several reviewers explicitly say they would recommend the community or that it felt like the right place after visiting.

Staff and operations are a clear strength in the reviewers’ eyes. Comments highlight “excellent” staff and good maintenance practices, suggesting competent day-to-day management and attentive personnel. That positive impression of staff and upkeep is reinforced by statements about the community being well-constructed and well-maintained, which points to both solid initial construction and ongoing facility management.

Programming and resident life are other prominent themes. Reviewers mention lots of activities and an active senior population, which supports the idea of a robust calendar of events and opportunities for socialization. Several comments also emphasize community spirit and the promotion of independence and safety, indicating the community strikes a balance between fostering autonomy and providing a secure living environment.

There are a few consistent and specific drawbacks noted. Availability and unit mix are recurring concerns: the community appears to have more two-bedroom units than one-bedroom units, and one-bedroom units reportedly do not include bathtubs whereas two-bedroom models do. This creates a tangible limitation for prospective residents who prefer one-bedroom layouts or need bathtub access. Relatedly, a waiting list and statements that the community is not inexpensive indicate both limited immediate availability and a higher price point. Some parts of the campus are still under construction, which could affect move-in timing, views, noise, or access to certain amenities until build-out is complete.

On the subject of cost and value, reviewers frame pricing as higher than average but generally worth the investment. The consistent characterization of the community as “worth the investment” and the presence of a waiting list suggest strong demand and a perceived alignment between price and quality. However, prospective residents should be prepared for higher costs and possible limited choices in unit types and immediate availability.

Notably absent from the reviews are detailed comments about dining quality, clinical care services (e.g., assisted living or memory care specifics), and staff responsiveness in emergencies; reviewers focus primarily on lifestyle, safety, staff professionalism, and the physical facility. If those areas are important to a prospective resident, they should be explored directly with Hawthorne Commons during a visit.

In summary, Hawthorne Commons is described by reviewers as a safe, socially active, and well-maintained senior living community with an excellent staff, attractive facilities, and strong community spirit. The main considerations for prospective residents are cost, limited availability (waiting list), a unit mix favoring two-bedroom apartments, and the absence of bathtubs in one-bedroom models. For those who prioritize location, social programming, and quality construction/maintenance—and who can accommodate the price and unit availability—reviewers consistently recommend Hawthorne Commons.

    About Hawthorne Commons

Hawthorne Commons sits in Dublin, Ohio, and serves adults aged 55 and older who want both independence and support when they need it, offering maintenance-free living in single-story luxury apartments that all come with their own private entrances and attached garages for either one or two cars, and people living there will find a variety of floor plans, so some have walk-in closets, some have private patios or decks, half-baths, and easy trash disposal, plus every home is designed with features for easy accessibility like universal design so moving around with walkers or wheelchairs isn't a problem. The place has nice green spaces, a community garden, and a pond, great for strolling or just sitting to enjoy the outdoors. Hawthorne Commons makes room for pets in the apartments and for people who still drive, there's easy access with attached garages, but for those who don't, there's a transportation service to help them get to appointments and events. The facility also has a wide range of activities and programs through its Enrichment Center, covering social, educational, cultural, and fitness interests, with things like yoga classes that look out over the gardens, cards clubs, fitness clubs with all the equipment someone might use, a business center with computers, and plenty of community spaces like a big clubhouse for meetings, private parties with a catering kitchen, and casual places to relax by a fireplace with friends. Hawthorne Commons uses its own names for many of its services, so people will notice a few unique terms around the place, and the facility has a 24/7 concierge service that's there for things like travel planning, dinner reservations, and personal shopping. People can use the resident portal for paying rent, scheduling maintenance (which is available 24 hours a day), signing up for community activities, or reserving spaces for gatherings. Dining options exist, but the community does not serve daily meals or provide regular healthcare, focusing instead on independent and assisted living, with support services that can include memory care for those who need it, nutrition services, and in-home care plus help for caregivers who are supporting loved ones. Residents can socialize at the WiFi café with coffee bar and liquor lockers, visit the fire pit space outside, relax in private outdoor seating areas, or enjoy nearby walking paths, bike trails, and parks like Campden Lakes, Emerald Fields, and the Scioto River, with notable art nearby through the Dublin Arts Council and Art in Public Places. The community keeps things secure and friendly with 24-hour staff support, and follows guidelines as a Housing for Older Persons Act (HOPA) compliant facility, requiring that at least 80% of residents are 55 years or older. Living at Hawthorne Commons can suit people who want privacy, easy maintenance, space to be active, special kinds of care, and a place with lots to do, yet without the pushy atmosphere of constant staff oversight, making it fit for someone looking for a middle ground between total independence and having a little support when it counts.
