    Warm, caring facility with issues

I love the warm, family-like atmosphere and beautiful, well-kept facility - the Director and long-term staff are caring, activities are plentiful (outings, family nights, holidays), and on-site medical/podiatry, salon and transportation are real pluses. My only concerns: parking is tight, meals and billing can be inconsistent, and understaffing has led to slow call responses and occasional housekeeping/care lapses. Overall I'd recommend visiting and considering it, but confirm staffing, care protocols, and costs first.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans toward positive for everyday care, activities, and the social environment — with a set of serious and recurring concerns that prospective families should probe during a tour. Many reviewers praise the frontline aides, named nursing and activities leaders, and the warm, family-like atmosphere. Positive comments commonly highlight compassionate staff, individualized attention, accurate medication administration, available therapy services, and an active calendar of events including outings, family nights, holiday programming, and crafts. Several reviewers specifically called out the memory care unit as well-run and secure, noting separate facilities and staff experienced with dementia care.

Care quality is described very positively by numerous reviewers: reviewers reported attentive staff, competent nursing leadership, proper medication administration, and measurable improvements in resident health attributed to OT/PT and attentive medical support. Multiple reviews emphasize long-term staff consistency, strong relationships between staff and residents, and managers who are responsive — some even named directors and activities staff in praise. The facility’s physical environment also receives consistent praise: reviewers describe clean, well-maintained common areas and apartments, garden areas, a salon, guest room, and included amenities in some room types (laundry, phone, Wi‑Fi, TV). The community’s social life — daily activities, bingo, music, cooking classes, trips to eat and shop, and frequent family events — is repeatedly called out as a major strength that helps residents remain engaged and socially active.

However, a set of significant negative themes recurs across multiple reviews. Staffing shortages and slow responses to call lights are the most commonly reported operational problems. Several reviewers described long waits for assistance, aides stretched thin, delayed or missing showering and laundry services, and inconsistent housekeeping. Importantly, some reviewers report inconsistent nursing coverage after 5 PM or at night, while others explicitly state 24/7 nursing is available — this contradiction suggests uneven staffing patterns or recent changes that have not been uniformly implemented. A small but serious subset of reviews raises allegations of neglect and unsafe conditions: reports include repeated falls, incidents allegedly captured on cameras, one reviewer’s claim of a death related to a UTI, and extremely low caregiver-to-resident ratios claimed by some (e.g., one caregiver for 80+ residents). These are severe allegations that appear in multiple reviews and contrast sharply with other families’ positive care experiences.

Dining and food quality are another consistent area of mixed feedback. Many reviewers praise the dining area and menu, but an approximately equal number criticize limited meal variety, single-meal options for some residents, cold food, and failure to honor dietary restrictions. Administrative and management inconsistencies are also evident: while many reviews compliment specific directors and managers for responsiveness, others describe problematic coordinators, bans on family involvement, outsourced billing errors, double billing complaints, and lapses in communication such as no follow-up after hospital stays. Several reviews recount operational problems like temporary lack of hot water, missed showers for extended periods, and lapses in trash or laundry service.

Patterns across the reviews suggest a facility that delivers strong social programming, a comfortable environment, and many compassionate, committed staff members — but one that may be strained by staffing and administrative challenges. The variation in experiences (some reviewers describing exemplary care and 24/7 nursing; others describing dangerous neglect and poor coordination) implies inconsistency across shifts, units, or periods of turnover. Memory care receives relatively more uniformly positive feedback, and many reviewers recommend the community for assisted living and memory care, but the very serious negative reports around safety, after-hours coverage, and billing mean that prospective residents and families should request specific documentation and answers during a tour.

If considering this community, families should verify current staffing ratios and after-hours nursing coverage, ask for recent incident and fall reports, confirm dietary accommodation policies and sample menus, review housekeeping and laundry schedules, clarify billing procedures and any third-party billing arrangements, and meet the staff on multiple shifts. A thorough tour that includes speaking to residents, attending an activity, and asking direct questions about incident escalation and family visitation policies will help reconcile the mixed reviews. The overall picture is one of a caring, activity-rich community with real strengths — but also with nontrivial operational and safety concerns reported by multiple reviewers that warrant careful investigation before making a decision.

    About Fairborn Assisted Living

Fairborn Assisted Living sits in a quiet residential area at 2270 Park Hills Drive in Fairborn, Ohio, near green parks and local shops like The Mall at Fairfield Commons and University Shoppes, and it's pretty close to places like Dayton, Beavercreek, Huber Heights, and Yellow Springs, so residents can easily get out and about for errands, outings, or a nice lunch. The community offers both assisted living and a dedicated Memory Care Wing, so folks who need different levels of support, like help with bathing, dressing, medication, or dealing with memory issues like Alzheimer's and dementia, can get what they need while staying in familiar surroundings, with the staff focusing a lot on keeping everyone's dignity, privacy, and independence at the front of things. The staff includes nurses, personal care assistants, therapists, and a doctor on call, and there's always someone around, day or night, to give reminders or help with daily care, which makes life easier especially when a resident's needs change, and there's behavioral care available for those who need special attention.

Residents can pick from room types like private suites or companion rooms with kitchenettes and accessible bathrooms fitted with walk-in showers and safety rails, plus they can bring pets if they want some company, since dogs and cats are allowed. The Memory Care area stands on its own, with secure doors, technology like bracelets that set off alarms if someone tries to leave, and calm lounges with fireplaces; caregivers working there know how to handle wandering, incontinence, and behaviors that can go along with dementia. Salon services, a dedicated Memory Care salon, and beautician services provide grooming and personal care, while accessible features in both common and private areas make moving around safer and simpler for everyone, including people who need mechanical lifts or assistance with transfers.

For meals, Fairborn Assisted Living serves chef-prepared, home-style food in spacious dining rooms filled with natural light, and residents can choose to eat with others or in their own rooms; menus are made with nutrition and local favorites in mind. Housekeeping and laundry get taken care of, and there's regular transportation if residents want to head out or if family comes for a visit, with resident and guest parking on site. There's Wi-Fi and cable TV in the rooms, so people can keep up with news or family, and the indoor areas have fireplaces and comfortable furniture, making it easy to gather and relax.

Community life stays busy with daily activities planned by a full-time activity director such as bingo, crafts, exercise classes, bible study, stretching, Tai Chi, karaoke, Wii Bowling, and wine tasting. Residents also take part in community service, educational lectures, and field trips, so no two days are quite the same, and memory support programs like Artistry of Moments help residents with cognitive needs find comfort and connection. There's always some kind of event, whether it's live entertainment or social gatherings out on the covered patios that have rocking chairs and garden views.

Fairborn Assisted Living accepts Medicaid, offers respite stays as short as two days, and covers things like nursing, rehab, home health, and adult day care, plus it has full state licensing. Staff and management support families with educational material and seminars about Medicaid, nursing home planning, and elder law topics like advance directives and trusts, and there's always someone ready to answer questions about planning ahead. The staff has a reputation for being helpful and friendly, and people say the community feels safe, loving, and homey, with a healthy sense of belonging among residents, families, and staff. Fairborn Assisted Living, now under new ownership after being Wickshire Senior Living, aims to give every resident a safe place to stay, maintain independence as much as possible, and let everyone enjoy a good meal, clean room, and social life along the way.
