    Nice facility but staffing concerns

I toured the place and found it clean, bright, and pleasant with caring, attentive staff, lots of activities, good food, an on-site wellness/rehab center, and private apartment options. Staff treated residents like adults and were helpful during transitions, but I also saw understaffing, long waits and occasional dismissive attitudes - management didn't resolve those concerns. I would consider it for quality care and location, but the high price and staffing issues give me pause.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the Jennings reviews is mixed-to-positive, with a clear pattern of praise for the personal care, cleanliness, amenities, and activity offerings, tempered by recurring concerns about staffing, responsiveness, and cost. Many reviewers strongly recommend Jennings and highlight staff who are kind, attentive, and invested in residents' well-being. Multiple accounts emphasize that staff treat residents with dignity, know them personally, and provide supportive transitions. The availability of 24-hour care and a newer private-room unit (described as a small 18-resident household) are noted as strong positives for families seeking more private or secure options.

Care quality and staff: The dominant theme is that caregivers are professional, warm, and helpful. Reviewers consistently mention attentive, polite staff who provide high-quality care and assistance and who are willing to accommodate individual needs (for example, flexible meal requests or allowing family members to sit with residents in common areas). The staff receives repeated praise for being knowledgeable and invested in resident well-being, which contributes to many families’ willingness to recommend the community. However, this positive view is not universal: several reviews report long waits for care, occasional understaffing, and instances where staff came across as dismissive. Those negative experiences often include follow-up complaints to management that were perceived as ineffective, which amplifies family frustration when care concerns arise.

Facilities, rooms, and cleanliness: Jennings is frequently described as clean, bright, and pleasant. Many reviewers point out spacious rooms or apartment-style units with private bathrooms and bedrooms, and some note that residents can personalize rooms and keep small refrigerators. The facility’s aesthetic is described variably — several reviewers call it beautiful or very clean with lots of natural light, while a few describe it as an older building that isn’t as modern as they expected. There are also differences in how secure areas versus open-access areas are characterized: the community offers secure/locked-down options which some families appreciate for safety, while at least one reviewer reported the courtyard being accessible and not locked. Overall, cleanliness and upkeep are repeatedly praised.

Dining, activities, and amenities: Dining and activities are strong positive themes. Many reviewers report good food, a sunny dining room, and flexible meal accommodations. The activity program is described as robust, including an on-site Wellness Center, intergenerational programming, and a variety of activities that keep residents engaged. Additional amenities such as an in-house beauty salon and a rehab program are called out as valuable services. A few reviewers noted limited off-campus outings (e.g., no field trips), suggesting some inconsistency in the breadth of activity programming depending on the unit or timing.

Management, staffing patterns, and cost concerns: A notable cluster of negative comments centers on staffing levels, wait times for care, management responsiveness, and cost. Several reviewers reported long waits for assistance and perceived understaffing; in at least one case, conversations with management did not lead to perceived improvements. These service issues lead some families to conclude that the level of care does not justify the high monthly fees. Cost is a repeated concern — Jennings is frequently described as expensive or overpriced, and for a minority of reviewers that was a decisive factor against recommending the community. Staff turnover was also mentioned by some reviewers, which may contribute to inconsistent experiences among families.

Patterns and takeaways: The reviews show a clear split between families who are very satisfied — citing compassionate staff, cleanliness, active programming, private-room options, and helpful amenities — and those who experienced operational issues, particularly around staffing, responsiveness, and value for cost. If you prioritize personalized care, cleanliness, visible activities, and on-site services (wellness, rehab, salon), Jennings earns strong marks from many reviewers. If your primary concerns are consistent staffing levels, quick response times, management responsiveness to complaints, and cost-effectiveness, those are areas where multiple reviewers reported problems. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong positives (staff commitment, facilities, activities) against the potential negatives (possible understaffing, long waits, and high price), and consider visiting multiple times, asking specific questions about staffing ratios and response protocols, and clarifying costs and what is included before making a decision.

    About Jennings

Jennings sits at 10204 Granger Road in Garfield Heights, Ohio, right on the Jennings's Center for Older Adults campus, where folks can find many different care options and places to live, and things can get a little confusing because you'll find specific names for the buildings like Jennings Manor Apartments for independent living, Jennings Assisted Living Center for those who need more help, and Jennings Hall, which offers skilled nursing care, and then there's Holy Spirit Villas, St. Rita Apartments, and St. Agnes Terrace, each with their own purpose to support different needs-some places are for people who can get along on their own, and some are for those needing a lot more care, and all of these are part of a bigger community that's actually a Continuing Care Retirement Community so people can get everything from independent living and assisted living to memory care, nursing home care, and even home care and hospice all in one place, which can help if someone's health changes. Jennings has been around since the early 1940s and has always focused on treating people with dignity and respect, and many residents like that it's a nonprofit, faith-based community with daily mass, rosary, an on-campus chapel, and programs for daily wellness and comfort. The place has apartment-style rooms, private suites, and some short-stay suites for people recovering after a hospital visit or for folks needing respite, meaning a break for their regular caregivers, and the rooms come with their own bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, furnishings, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi, and there are wheelchair showers and handicap-accessible features, plus the elevators make it easier to get around. Dining here matters, and there's a professional chef, community dining room, and restaurant-style all-day and anytime dining, with meals for people who need low/no sugar or low/no salt for things like diabetes, and guest meals are available too. You'll find transportation for getting to appointments or shopping, uncovered parking, and access to public transit, with resident parking too, and a concierge helps people move in or find what they need, making the transition smoother. Staff helps with housekeeping, laundry, medication management, diabetic and incontinence care, and 12-16 hour nursing care with 24-hour supervision, plus there's a robust system for emergency alerts, and Medicare and Medicaid are accepted, which not every place offers. Jennings Hall has eight certified beds for skilled nursing opening up in June 2025, and skilled nursing and rehab happen in all-private suites. Memory care for Alzheimer's disease and dementia is available, and care is always tailored to each person, so people have some say in how their day goes, and in the small house living style, residents even help decide menu items and activities, which can give a bit of independence back. People living at Jennings have plenty to do, with daily scheduled and resident-run activities, a game room, music and arts room, wellness spa, fitness center, activity center, socialization programs, movie theater, library, computer lab, gardens, landscaped walking paths, a beauty salon and barbershop, a gift and snack shop, and lots of community rooms for group programs or just relaxing. The staff runs fitness programs for all mobility levels, outdoor events, movie nights, music programs, and organized programs to keep folks engaged, while resident and family councils meet to talk through concerns about quality of care. If someone needs a break or transitional care, respite, inpatient rehab, hospice care, and even short-term skilled nursing are available, and home health aides and outpatient rehab can help keep folks living at home for as long as possible. Services like adult day care are part of the Jennings campus, which helps people living with family remain at home during the evenings. There are even programs for children, including child day care and Learning Circle Child and Infant Care for kids from 6 weeks to 12 years, right on campus, so folks with grandkids or staff with young children sometimes like that. Folks looking to volunteer or find meaningful ways to help the community will also find active opportunities here, and the sense of community is strong, which helps explain why Jennings gets a community score of 8.6 on the Seniorly rating system, and people have stuck with it for so long.
