    Great staff, poor operations, disappointing

I loved the staff and was treated respectfully; the town is quaint and safe and my daughter worked here for years. But medication management was poor, the doctor didn't return calls, care was often delayed, discharge/medication transfers were confusing, laundry was mishandled with clothes missing, and my SIM card was removed. Because of these operational issues I can't recommend the facility despite the great staff.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the provided reviews for Colonial Manor Health Care Center is mixed and polarized: reviewers praise the staff and the community setting but raise multiple, significant operational and clinical concerns. Positive comments emphasize that many staff members provide respectful treatment and are well-liked by residents and families, with statements such as "great care" and "loved the staff." The facility’s location is viewed positively as a safe, quaint town in the "Heart of Ohio," and one reviewer noted a long family connection through a daughter who worked there for years, suggesting some continuity of personnel and local ties.

On the negative side, there are recurring and serious concerns about clinical management and communication. Several reviews specifically call out poor medication management and delayed care, and one reports that a doctor did not return calls. There is also explicit mention of discharge and medication transfer confusion, which indicates breakdowns in transitions of care and handoffs. These issues are clinically significant because medication errors, delays, and poor coordination at discharge can directly affect patient safety and outcomes.

Operational and personal-effects problems are also highlighted. Reviewers report laundry mishandling with missing clothes, and an unusual, troubling report that a SIM card was removed from a device. These kinds of incidents—lost personal items and tampering with a resident’s phone/SIM—erode trust and can meaningfully impact a family’s satisfaction and the facility’s reputation. One review explicitly says they "would not recommend," and another notes that these negative incidents had a "negative impact on rating," suggesting the problems meaningfully affect overall impressions.

There is a clear pattern of strong interpersonal care from certain staff members paired with systemic or management-level weaknesses. Praises about respectful treatment and loved staff point to pockets of excellent caregiving and positive staff-resident interactions. However, the repeated mention of medication errors, care delays, poor communication (including a non-responsive doctor), discharge confusion, and mishandled personal items point to lapses in policies, procedures, or oversight. These are not isolated nitpicks but recurring themes that affect both clinical safety and day-to-day resident experience.

Notably absent from the reviews are detailed remarks about dining, activities, or the physical condition of the facility. Because those topics are not mentioned, no conclusion can be drawn about them from these reviews alone; they were neither praised nor criticized explicitly. What is clear is that families value the caring staff and the community atmosphere, but their overall confidence is undermined by operational failures and communication breakdowns.

Recommendations for anyone considering Colonial Manor based on these reviews would be to meet with leadership to discuss medication management protocols, discharge planning and transfer procedures, and staff practices around personal belongings and resident devices. Prospective residents and families should ask about communication pathways with physicians and administration, incident reporting and resolution processes, and examples of corrective actions taken when problems arise. In summary, Colonial Manor appears to have strong, compassionate caregivers and a positive local reputation in some respects, but the facility also shows notable, repeatable problems in medication handling, care coordination, and property management that need to be addressed to ensure consistent, safe, and reliable care.
