    Immaculate facility with compassionate staff

I moved my mom in and was impressed: immaculate, state-of-the-art facility with compassionate, friendly staff - Roxanne made the move-in seamless. Residents get very good, attentive care, responsive communication, restaurant-style dining and plenty of social activities (live music, daily happy hour, outings) so she's thriving and social. Overall a warm, well-staffed community I'd happily recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Traditions of Deerfield elicits strongly mixed impressions. Many families and residents praise the physical environment and lifestyle offerings: the building is frequently described as new, bright and well maintained, with comfortable apartments, accessible bathrooms, attractive dining spaces and pleasant outdoor seating. The community offers a robust activity program — live music, weekly happy hour, group outings and diverse social events — plus a range of on-site amenities such as a salon, chapel, fitness room and shuttle. Several accounts highlight attentive, compassionate direct-care staff and positive, seamless memory-care transitions; a number of families reported good communication and supportive end-of-life care by the memory-care team.

At the same time, recurring operational concerns appear throughout reviews. Staffing and leadership instability is a prominent theme: reviewers cite frequent staff turnover, director changes and periods of short staffing that affect day-to-day responsiveness. These personnel issues are linked to delayed responses to call lights and family requests, inconsistent medication timing and tracking, and gaps in shift-to-shift communication. A subset of families described clinical shortfalls for residents with higher medical needs, noting limited physician availability and reliance on LPN/PA oversight rather than regular physician rounds.

Facility service delivery shows variability. Dining is frequently praised for menu variety and restaurant-style service, but reviewers also describe intermittent cold meals and meal-service lapses. Housekeeping and apartment cleanliness receive positive mention in many cases, yet other accounts raise sanitation and incontinence-care delays. Ancillary services such as physical therapy were described as effective by some but as costly and of limited benefit by others. Financial issues recurred as a concern: families reported billing discrepancies, unexpected or unauthorized charges, and frustration around refunds or contract terms following changes in residency.

Management and communication are uneven in reviewers’ experience. Where leadership is engaged and stable, families report responsive administrators, good family updates and a warm community culture. Where leadership turnover and management gaps exist, families describe unresolved issues, inconsistent training for new staff, and misalignment between marketing promises and the level of clinical care delivered. Notably, memory-care and hospice experiences were among the most consistently positive clinical narratives, with examples of personalized support and timely hospice involvement.

For prospective residents and families, the pattern suggests clear strengths in facility quality, social programming and compassionate direct caregivers, paired with operational weaknesses that can affect clinical reliability and value. Recommended topics to probe on a tour include current staffing ratios (including weekend and night coverage), clinical leadership and physician access, medication-administration processes and timing, fall-prevention policies and call-button demonstration, cleaning protocols, billing practices and contract terms, and recent inspection or quality metrics. Observing a meal service, asking for recent staffing turnover data, and requesting references from current families can help clarify whether the community’s current operational performance aligns with the positive aspects many reviewers describe.

    About Traditions of Deerfield

Traditions of Deerfield sits in a park-like area with lovely walking paths and peaceful nature views, and the community has blue lap siding and stone accents that make it look pleasant and welcoming, and inside, there are spacious, well-lit common rooms with comfortable furniture and soothing colors, and it really has a homey and comfortable feel that people notice right away. Traditions of Deerfield offers several types of living options, including independent living, assisted living-certified by ODA-and memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, and also provides short-term memory care and respite care for those needing a temporary stay, so families have some peace of mind with all the choices. Residents get chef-prepared meals in a restaurant-style dining area, and there are snacks and nutritious food available all through the day. For those who need help, the staff provides assistance with personal care, daily activities, and checkups, and there's always someone ready with 24-hour emergency call response, so people can feel secure, and the nursing staff coordinates care and helps develop personalized service plans, which are tailored to what each resident needs. Rooms and floor plans come in different sizes, and you can see pictures or take a virtual tour if you want to get a good look before moving, and the whole place stays clean because staff handle all the laundry and housekeeping chores, which gives everyone more time to enjoy life.

Traditions of Deerfield really tries to help people stay active with structured activities for the mind and body, social gatherings, outings, and group events in spaces like the onsite movie theater, fitness center, beauty salon, chapel, patio garden, and walking paths, so people have plenty of ways to socialize or relax, even if they prefer quiet moments outside. There are devotional services, beautician and barber visits, and scheduled transportation for appointments or shopping, which helps when people don't want to drive or just need help getting around. For memory care, the team uses Behavior-Based Ergonomics Therapy (BBET) programs that focus on both mental and emotional well-being, and the security systems throughout the memory care area are state-of-the-art, which lets residents move about independently while staying safe. The staff includes nurse practitioners and licensed nurses, plus there's medical support onsite with mobile imaging, labs, and outpatient therapy-all arranged for convenience, and everything is coordinated with the intention of helping people age in place if they choose.

There's a special focus on caring relationships and making everyone feel supported and encouraged to be as independent as possible, and the grounds really help with that, since there are outdoor spaces for gathering or just watching birds and enjoying the breeze. All activities, whether educational, spiritual, or just for fun, aim to help residents keep their self-esteem and dignity, regardless of their care level. Community spaces remain tidy and nice, chores and home maintenance are covered by dedicated staff, and residents can volunteer or join community events. People can find resources like a news board, event calendar, decision toolkits, and frequently asked questions to help when they're making choices. This place doesn't overpromise-what you see is what you get, and it's a community focused on care, respect, and relationships above all else.
