    Feels like home, minor issues

I live here and feel at home - the facility, grounds and roomy apartments are beautiful, spotless and peaceful. Staff (especially admissions and nursing) are warm, well-trained and caring, residents are friendly, and there are lots of activities. Dining is restaurant-style and tasty but can be pricey for guests and portions vary; the campus is large and sometimes hard to navigate. It's not cheap and I've noticed a few staffing/stress issues and a dirty carpet in an entrance, but overall I'd recommend it for the care and community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the collected reviews is strongly positive, with the most frequent and emphatic praise directed at the people who work at The Glenwood Community. Multiple reviewers — including family members, long-term residents, and many employees — describe staff as compassionate, attentive, and knowledgeable. Repeated themes are staff knowing residents by name, going above and beyond, strong teamwork among nurses and care assistants, and supportive leadership (with the Director of Nursing singled out for responsiveness). Many employees report a family-like atmosphere, high morale, and recommend both living and working at Glenwood, which reinforces a perception of consistent, resident-centered care.

Care quality and staff interactions are a clear strength. Reviews highlight collaborative nursing and RCA teams, an environment described as having "no drama," and staff who are not rushed when interacting with residents. Admissions staff are frequently praised for kindness and helpfulness, and several long-term residents report satisfaction with the care and no regrets about moving in. At the same time, there are some operational complaints — most commonly slow response times in certain situations and isolated remarks about inconsistent information or a lack of a single staff liaison — that suggest room for improving communication consistency.

The physical plant and grounds receive many positive comments. Reviewers repeatedly note the facility is clean, well maintained, and aesthetically pleasing with beautiful decor and landscaping. Outdoor amenities such as garden areas, raised personal garden beds, and a fishing pond are frequently mentioned as valued features. The independent living apartments are described as large and comfortable, and the property’s country setting is appreciated for privacy while still being close to town. That said, some residents find aspects of the layout challenging: cottages are described as too far from the main building by some, and other reviewers find the multi-level layout intimidating or difficult to navigate.

Dining and hospitality are also strong points, with many reviewers praising restaurant-style dining, daily specials, and generally delicious food with generous portions. Some nuance appears — a number of comments say meals are expensive for guests or cite smaller portions — indicating variability depending on whether the commenter is a resident, a visitor, or referencing particular menu items. Free snacks and nightly candy are noted as appreciated resident touches, although some operational complaints mention snacks accumulating on counters.

Activities and social life come across as robust. Multiple reviews list bingo, crafts, music, exercise classes, hairdresser services, library use, and other programming that keeps residents engaged. The social atmosphere is repeatedly described as friendly and joyful; residents are often characterized as pleasant and engaging. Some reviewers want clearer descriptions of activities for new tenants and more weekend programming, suggesting an opportunity to enhance communication about scheduled offerings and expand weekend options.

Operational and management themes are mixed but largely positive. Many reviews describe Glenwood as well-managed with efficient systems, strong leadership, and a positive workplace culture that supports staff retention and morale. That positive internal culture likely contributes to the strong resident experience many reviewers describe. However, there are scattered concerns about cleanliness in specific locations (a few mentions of filthy carpet in halls/entrances), inconsistent billing or fee practices across facilities, occasional staff stress, and isolated claims of untrustworthy management or staff. These negative reports are relatively infrequent compared with the positive volume, but they are notable and indicate areas for targeted improvement and oversight.

In summary, The Glenwood Community is portrayed by most reviewers as a clean, beautiful, and well-run senior living community with an especially strong team of caring staff, a family-like atmosphere, and a wide range of amenities and activities. Dining, outdoor spaces, and resident engagement rank highly in residents' and employees' impressions. Key areas for improvement that recur across reviews include clarifying communications (single liaison/accountability), addressing occasional cleanliness and layout concerns (carpet, cottage distance, multi-level navigation), ensuring consistent response times, and improving some operational details (laundry organization, activity descriptions, weekend programming, and transparent fees). For prospective residents or family members, the overall pattern suggests a community with high-quality personal care and a warm culture, while those concerned about specific logistical issues (distance to cottages, weekend activity levels, guest meal costs) should ask targeted questions during a tour or admissions conversation.

    About The Glenwood Community

The Glenwood Community sits at 200 Timberline Drive in Marietta, Ohio, on a quiet 70-acre wooded campus with tall old trees and a calm pond you can see from some of the walking paths, and folks there say the grounds are peaceful with places to just sit outside when the weather's good or wander down the paved trails if someone wants a little outside time. The place has apartments and cottage homes for independent living, and they've got assisted living options through programs like Pines at Glenwood where residents can get help with daily things such as getting dressed, bathing, grooming, or remembering to take medicine and there's a smaller home-like feel since the main assisted living area is licensed for six residents, so things don't get too busy and crowded and people often know each other's names. Folks with more advanced care needs, memory loss or dementia have the Memory Care program, while those who might need skilled nursing or rehab after a hospital stay can use the on-site services without having to move out. They also help families with respite and hospice needs as things change.

Staff have office hours on weekdays from morning until late afternoon, while the community center welcomes visitors on weekends in the early afternoon, and no matter the time, someone from the care team is around if residents need help-whether it's personal care, finding the right book, or thinking up the next group activity for the calendar, which tends to stay full of things from board games and music plans to animal therapy visits, art events, and even exercise groups and outdoor relaxation times when the weather allows. Residents often use the fitness center or sauna and jacuzzi, spend quiet time in the book room, or get a haircut from the on-site salon or stylist, and there are usually movie nights, craft plans, or evening events in the common spaces or game rooms. Folks have private rooms with lots of natural light, carpeting, and safety features, and there's housekeeping, meal preparation with daily chef-inspired healthy food in the dining room, plus transportation for shopping or outings into downtown Marietta, where historic sites and restaurants aren't too far off. For those who need it, staff can design exercise programs, help with medical reminders, or bring in IV therapy and hospice services as needed, and residents can get support with things like Medicaid, Medicare, and finding help to pay their energy bills or make homes safer.

The Glenwood Community connects older adults and families with resources and programs like PASSPORT Medicaid Waiver Help, Assisted Living Waiver Help, and gives information about using insurance, selling property, or veterans' benefits to help cover care costs, so families have a lot of support figuring everything out. There are lots of public spaces for socializing and enjoying time together, and the community is small-pet friendly in many apartments. The campus runs on a faith-inspired foundation with a chaplain, and the whole place is SAGECare certified to welcome and support LGBTQ+ seniors, and staff get training to make sure everyone feels comfortable. Glenwood is known by the Ohio Assisted Living Association and works with local leaders to help make the community better, not just for residents but for the whole town. With its programs, support, and simple, caring approach, it aims to provide a safe, courteous, and comfortable place for older adults, whether someone wants a busy social calendar, peace and quiet, or just a bit of help now and then as they age.
