    Caring staff but management concerns

I love the staff - professional, kind, and they go above and beyond; the food, activities and welcoming atmosphere make the place feel comfortable. That said, the building is old and sometimes dirty or outdated, corporate management seems money-focused leading to short staffing, missing supplies, lost clothing/personal items, and inconsistent nursing/therapy (we experienced feeding/therapy issues and significant weight loss). Overall I'd trust the caregivers but have serious reservations about facility management and safety.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but strongly centered on two main themes: staff quality and inconsistency in clinical care and operations. Many reviewers praise the human side of the facility — respectful, dignified treatment, aides who are helpful and go above and beyond, friendly housekeeping, and nursing staff described as amazing in several accounts. Multiple reviews emphasize a welcoming atmosphere, frequent family visits, competence in dementia care, clear explanations from staff about care options, good food, and engaging activities. Several reviewers explicitly say they would return or recommend sending family members to this facility, indicating a positive lived experience for a number of residents and families.

Contrasting with those positives are serious clinical and operational concerns reported by other reviewers. There are multiple accounts of short-staffing or problematic staffing levels (one review uses the phrase overfull staffing), shortages of new supplies, and a corporate ownership perceived as profit-focused. Some reports go beyond operational complaints and raise significant clinical safety issues: isolation of residents without therapy or basic hygiene such as showers, failure to provide requested tube feeding, and a substantial unexplained weight loss of 45 pounds for one resident. Several reviewers also questioned the effectiveness of intensive therapy provided. These are high-risk items that suggest variability in the quality of medical and rehabilitative care provided to residents.

Facility condition and housekeeping reports are inconsistent: several reviews praise the facility as very clean and well maintained, while others describe it as dirty, old, and outdated and accuse advertising of misrepresentation. This split suggests either variability across units, changes over time, or differences in reviewer expectations and experiences. A related operational concern is personal property management: there are reports of missing or lost clothing and belongings, though one reviewer notes that labeling clothing helped prevent loss. This indicates room for improvement in personal effects handling and admission/discharge procedures.

Staffing and staff behavior also show a split picture. While many reviewers commend nurses, aides, and housekeeping for being caring, professional, and easy to talk to, a few reviews explicitly call out 'nurses not caring' or describe care as lacking. This inconsistency may point to uneven training, variable shift coverage, or differences between individual staff members or units. Management-level issues are noted as well: perceptions of corporate profit orientation, shortages of supplies, and possible misrepresentation in advertising suggest administrative or corporate policies that affect front-line care.

Dining and activities are consistently a relative strength: multiple reviewers mention great food and good activities, contributing to a comfortable, home-like environment for residents. Dementia care is also specifically called out as a positive by some families, which is important given the specialized needs of that population.

In summary, Sprenger Healthcare Massillon receives strong praise for staff compassion, household cleanliness (in many accounts), meals, activities, and a welcoming atmosphere for families. However, mixed reports about clinical care, safety, staffing consistency, supply shortages, lost belongings, and sporadic cleanliness/deterioration raise important red flags. The reviews collectively portray a facility that can provide excellent, dignified care in many cases but also demonstrates notable variability that has led to serious negative outcomes for some residents. Families and prospective residents should note both the frequent positive testimonials about staff and the less frequent but consequential reports of clinical and operational lapses when evaluating the facility.
