    Friendly activities; clinical care unsafe

I had mixed experiences. The receptionist (Sally), many aides, and activities were warm and welcoming, and management could be helpful - the place can feel home-like. But nursing was inconsistent and often unresponsive (bells ignored, night shift lazy), communication and incident notification were poor, belongings and money went missing, a bedsore became infected and care was unsafe, and we were ultimately kicked out over insurance. It's overpriced for the inconsistent clinical care - I can't recommend it unless you only value activities and friendliness over reliable medical oversight.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is sharply mixed, with a clear split between reviewers who praise the facility’s social environment and certain staff members, and reviewers who report serious and potentially dangerous shortcomings in clinical care and communication. Many reviewers emphasize a warm, home-like atmosphere with friendly front-line personnel; others recount episodes of neglect, poor clinical management, and security concerns. The result is a polarized portrait in which the same features—staff and services—are described very differently by different families.

Care quality and clinical safety are the most significant and concerning themes in the negative reviews. Multiple reviewers report instances of inadequate medical care: an infected and bleeding bedsore, alleged improper treatment of C. difficile, and at least one account framing the care as a contributing factor to a resident’s death. There are also reports of residents being discharged or “kicked out” over insurance issues. These are not minor complaints; they indicate variability in clinical oversight and case management that families should regard as serious. While other reviewers emphasize attentive, proactive nursing and aides who are “on top of every situation,” the inconsistency between accounts suggests uneven staffing, training, or supervision across shifts or units.

Staffing and interpersonal interactions show a similar split. Numerous reviews praise warm, caring staff, supportive management, and specific positive mentions (for example, a welcoming receptionist named Sally). Reported strengths include nurses and aides who go beyond expectations, reassurance provided to families, and staff who help residents meet personal goals and access resources. Conversely, several reviewers report poor responsiveness (unanswered call bells), lazy or inattentive night-shift staff, demeaning treatment toward residents, and an unresponsive Director of Nursing when problems are raised. There are repeated notes about poor incident notification to family members and limited evening access or long hold times on the phone, which compound family stress when concerns arise.

The facility’s social programming and environment receive consistently positive mentions: an active calendar with bingo, poker tournaments, religious services, sporting-event viewings, holiday celebrations, field trips, communal dining, and options for room-delivered meals. These offerings appear to provide meaningful engagement for many residents and contribute to reported feelings of dignity and peace of mind for some families. However, operational issues related to dining surface as well: complaints about poor food quality, meal delivery problems (including not using protective cloths or failing to deliver meals), and diet changes causing residents to become listless.

Security and property concerns are another recurring negative theme. Multiple reviewers allege missing money and personal belongings; others report staff smoking outside the building, which raises concerns about professional standards and supervision. Combined with accounts of poor communication and incident reporting, these complaints point to lapses in administrative controls and resident safeguards in some cases.

Management and overall reliability appear inconsistent. Several reviewers praise helpful management and good communication/progress reports, while others describe poor responsiveness from management or the Director of Nursing and a lack of assistance in finding outside resources. The mixed reports suggest the presence of competent, caring individuals and programs but also systemic or intermittent failures—whether due to staffing shortages, inconsistent training, or administrative lapses—that lead to very different family experiences.

In summary, Parma Care Center appears to offer a compassionate, activity-rich environment with some staff and managers who deliver excellent, reassuring care and family communication. At the same time, there are multiple, serious allegations of clinical neglect, poor incident reporting, missing belongings, and inconsistent responsiveness that cannot be ignored. The reviews show a facility that can provide warmth, engagement, and attentive caregiving in many cases, but one whose performance may be uneven across shifts, units, or individual staff members. Prospective residents and families should weigh the strong social programming and positive staff accounts against reports of medical and administrative failures, and may want to ask direct questions about clinical oversight, incident reporting procedures, staff-to-resident ratios (especially at night), property safeguards, and how dietary or insurance-related transitions are handled.

    About Parma Care Center

Parma Care Center stands as a 96-bed post-hospital rehabilitation and care facility where people come for both short-term and long-term care, and they've got a specialized Alzheimer's / Dementia care unit too, which might give some peace of mind to families coping with memory loss issues, and while the facility commits to offering a home-like atmosphere and tries to enrich residents' lives with activities and support, there've been some concerns over the years because inspectors have found 19 deficiencies, including 4 that relate to infection control, and there were issues like not having a licensed pharmacist provide pharmaceutical services and not having a proper infection prevention program, and the most recent standard inspection happened over two years ago, which is later than it's supposed to be since most places get checked out every 9 to 15 months, and even though all this is on record, families will notice the center does offer Medicare services and serves around 82 residents a day out of their 104 certified beds. Residents at Parma Care Center have access to physical, occupational, and speech therapies, plus IV and respiratory therapy, tracheotomy care, wound care, and therapies for conditions like cardiac needs, cancer, diabetes, orthopedic injuries, pain, nutritional needs, and post-surgery recovery, and there's a hospice care program along with respite care too, so folks getting ready to go home after a hospital stay or those who need more ongoing help because of things like stroke or advanced age can find specialized programs. The nurse turnover rate stands at 31.2% which is lower than the state average of 51%, and the average nurse hours per resident per day is 3.46-slightly under the state average of 3.7 hours, and the Facebook page might help families see activities and updates from the facility. Leadership is in the hands of Jennifer Horvatin since January 2023 and Christopher Thomas since February 2019, and the owners Eitan Flank, Shaul Flank, and Joel Sausen each hold one-third ownership, and it's been affiliated with Progressive Quality Care since 2004. While the facility says it aims for high levels of rehabilitation and nursing support and works hard at compassionate, personalized care, families should be aware of the documented inspection history and ask questions if infection control is a concern, but many people do report feeling supported, whether through therapy, life enrichment, spiritual care, or the dedicated Alzheimer's unit, and Parma Care Center does make an effort to help residents and families adjust through transitional support and a range of available therapies and programs.
