    Compassionate care with concerning issues

I placed my grandmother here and overall I'm extremely satisfied - the staff were compassionate, professional and attentive, the facility was clean, home-like and Christian, rehab and medication management were good, and we had peace of mind and dignity at end of life. It's well-staffed, convenient, accepts Medicaid, and offers good value despite potentially higher rates. My reservations: I observed favoritism and pressure toward apostolic residents/staff and occasional lapses - lazy or incompetent caregivers, some neglect of basic care and an unsanitary issue that caused a rash. On balance I recommend it, but with those caveats.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with notable, recurring strengths: many reviewers emphasize compassionate, professional, and attentive staff who provide high-quality clinical care and rehabilitation services. Specific clinical strengths mentioned include medication management, assistance with transfers and toileting, and rehabilitative support for walking. Multiple family members described the facility as clean, well-organized, and home-like with tasteful décor, creating a comfortable atmosphere for residents. The facility’s Christian/Apostolic environment is repeatedly cited as a positive by many families who value faith-based care, and several reviewers highlighted meaningful, dignified end-of-life experiences and peace of mind provided to both residents and families.

Staff and culture are central themes. A majority of reviews applaud staff dedication, friendliness, and the sense that residents are treated like family. Reviewers frequently named caregivers positively, noted timely attention to needs, and described warm interactions that led to cherished memories. The environment is described as safe and loving by many; holiday events and social gatherings (for example, Christmas socials) contribute to a community feel. Operational strengths include adequate supplies, orderly management, and acceptance of Medicaid, which some families saw as providing good value or convenient access to services.

However, there are consistent and serious concerns reported by multiple reviewers that temper the overwhelmingly positive narratives. Several accounts allege prejudice and discrimination against non-Apostolic residents and staff, including favoritism toward Apostolic individuals and active pressure to adopt Apostolic beliefs. These reports describe differential treatment and a cultural bias that affected both staffing and resident experiences. Separately, some reviews describe lapses in basic personal care—examples include staff not wiping residents when needed—and at least one reviewer reported an unsanitary working condition that led to a rash. A small but meaningful subset of reviewers labeled staff as lazy or incompetent, indicating inconsistent performance across shifts or caregivers.

Dining and room arrangements are mixed areas. Meal quality was described as variable: some reviewers found meals excellent, while others said food was ‘not to taste,’ though overall food service was often judged acceptable. Privacy can be limited for some residents because shared rooms are in use; this was called out explicitly by a reviewer. Cost perspectives vary: some families felt they received good value, while others noted that rates could be higher compared with alternatives.

In summary, Apostolic Christian Home Inc receives strong praise for compassionate caregiving, clinical supports (medication control, rehab, ADL assistance), cleanliness, and a warm faith-based, family-like environment that many families highly recommend—especially for those who appreciate a Christian/Apostolic setting. At the same time, recurring criticisms warrant attention: allegations of religious-based favoritism and pressure, intermittent neglect of basic hygiene care, reports of inconsistent staff performance, and isolated unsanitary conditions. Prospective residents and families who value the facility’s faith-based culture, cleanliness, and personalized care will likely find it a good fit; those who are not Apostolic or who are particularly sensitive to privacy, consistency across all shifts, or religious neutrality should probe these concerns during tours and interviews. It would be prudent for decision-makers to ask facility leadership about policies on nondiscrimination, staff training and supervision, meal planning, room assignments, and incident reporting to ensure these reported issues have been addressed and to verify current conditions and staffing practices.

    About Apostolic Christian Home Inc

Apostolic Christian Home Inc has served the community in Rittman, Ohio, since 1975, with a strong focus on care and comfort for seniors, and you can tell they've really grown over the years, starting out as a smaller 51-bed place and, after adding a third wing, now offering 75 beds for nursing care, with 24 more in their assisted living wing, and they run independent apartments too, like Oak, Beech, Cedar, Dogwood, Elm, Buckeye, Juniper, and Hickory, which lets folks have a safe, comfortable option with one- or two-bedroom layouts. The facility works as a non-profit and aims to give care with kindness, patience, and love, supported by their mission to serve others with Christ-like compassion, plus they've long been backed by Apostolic Christian Churches. They offer a wide range of services such as skilled nursing, rehabilitation with physical, speech, and occupational therapy, assisted living, independent apartments in Apostolic Village, memory care for those with dementia or Alzheimer's, respite care for short-term stays, and residential care homes that help folks needing daily support like dressing and bathing. Their staff, including certified nurse aides and licensed nurses, stays onsite around the clock, and the facility's got physicians and therapy equipment like a weigh rack, Omnistep, NuStep, hi-low mat table, and offers therapy methods like E-Stim, Diathermy, Ultrasound, and Vital Stim. Residents get access to community dining, laundry, housekeeping, pickleball, a fitness center, whirlpool, and beauty and spa services, plus plenty of social activities like outings, music events, spiritual help, and volunteer chances, and in August 2024, they're just about set to finish Aspen Square Assisted Living Building which means they'll be expanding even more to meet different care needs. The apartments sit close to healthcare and have emergency help, which adds peace of mind, and the nursing home provides both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, so seniors can move between levels of care more easily as their needs change, whether recovering after a hospital stay or needing everyday help. The facility is licensed by the state of Ohio and aims to support every resident physically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally, with a team that works to keep everyone safe and well-cared for, and since they've been doing this for over forty years, they've built up a steady reputation in the area for providing a good home and a sense of community for older adults who need various degrees of help as they age, and Evan Beery leads as principal officer.
