    Nice building but heavy smoke

I live in a lovely old hotel converted into senior/disabled apartments - the facilities are great, my apartment is clean, and neighbors are very kind. Management is often absent and there's little social life, so I'm lonely at times. Cigarette smoke on every floor makes it unsuitable for anyone with respiratory or other health problems.

    About Shawnee Place

Shawnee Place sits in Springfield, Ohio, as a retirement community for people aged 55 or older, and it's part of Episcopal Retirement Services (ERS), so you see a strong commitment to supporting seniors in a real and practical way, whether they're living on their own or need more help. The campus is age-restricted and non-smoking, and the apartments come with different safety features like secure, locked entrances, property-specific intercom and key entry, and sensory units for those who need them. Residents find affordable living options here, because the place qualifies as a Low Income Senior Apartments community under the LIHTC program, so rents match what many older adults on fixed incomes can manage.

The campus meets a wide range of needs, from independent or residential living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, long-term care, and short-term rehab, to home health care that's Medicare-certified, non-medical in-home support, and hospice care if and when the time comes. Family caregivers get help through services like Living Well Senior Solutions and Parish Health Ministry, and the Center for Memory Support & Inclusion provides specialized resources if memory loss raises daily challenges. Shawnee Place sees to daily life too, with a full activities calendar, community events, parties, wellness programs, and spiritual services, including a part-time chaplain for worship, Bible study, and pastoral counseling, and it tries to keep residents both socially engaged and healthy.

There's a resident service coordinator, emergency maintenance 24/7, common areas for gathering, computer and community rooms with kitchens, onsite laundry, storage space, ADA-accessible and sensory-friendly units, an elevator, an exercise room with equipment, walking paths, a library, a game room, a hair salon, and parking. Apartments are cable and internet ready and have self-controlled heating and cooling and full kitchens. Extras like Deupree Meals On Wheels, the Swipe 'N' Dine dining program, and transportation to community events make everyday life a little easier. The staff includes medical personnel who can help whenever needed, and the property keeps a focus on accessibility, convenience, and safety, with programs and supports that let residents stay as independent as possible. The place holds a 4.7 rating from three reviews, and feedback points to a supportive, community-centered environment.
