    Impressed by compassionate professional care

I chose this community for my mom and couldn't be happier. The facility is beautiful, spotless and hotel-like, the food is delicious with all-day dining and customizable options, and there are constant, engaging activities. Most importantly the staff - from administration and nursing to caregivers, servers and housekeeping - are skilled, compassionate and became like family; memory care and hospice were professional and supportive. I highly recommend this place.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with many families praising The Gables of Green for its warm, home-like yet elegant environment, strong dining program, and active lifestyle offerings. Reviewers frequently highlight the facility's newness, cleanliness, and attractive common areas and apartments. The dining experience receives especially high marks — the chef, large scratch-made menu (one review cites a 64-item menu), all-day dining hours, and meal delivery to apartments are repeatedly described as outstanding and a differentiator. Many families say their loved ones enjoy the food, socialize more, form new friendships, and take advantage of salon and courtyard amenities.

Care quality and clinical services are reported as excellent by numerous reviewers: skilled nursing, memory care, and hospice collaboration are mentioned positively, with specific praise for attentive nurses and caregivers who provide detailed medication, doctor updates, and individualized care planning. Several reviews single out individual employees and leaders (for example, Laura Swansiger, Christi Kugler, Theo, and Latoya) as delivering exceptional support and making a notable positive impact. Multiple accounts describe staff going above and beyond (arranging sit-to-stand recliners, extra attention during meals, proactive engagement) and families characterize the staff as compassionate, watchful, and family-like.

Activities, programming and community life are consistent strengths. Reviewers commonly note a robust schedule of events and tailored activities facilitated by a dedicated activity director. The environment is often described as vibrant and upbeat, with inclusive programming that keeps residents engaged throughout the day. Outdoor access, enclosed memory-care patios, pet-friendly policies, and events that welcome family and grandchildren add to the social appeal. Maintenance and housekeeping also receive positive mentions for responsiveness and keeping apartments and common spaces clean.

Despite the many positives, a consistent set of concerns appears across multiple reviews and creates a mixed picture for prospective residents and families. The most frequent negatives relate to staffing levels and consistency: some reviews describe chronic short-staffing, reliance on temporary staff, and staff turnover that have led to delayed assistance, unresponsive call buttons, infrequent showers, and inconsistent administration of medications. Several families reported serious incidents (for example, hospitalization due to dehydration in one case and unresolved dietary needs) leading to transfers or escalated care. There are also reports of a mandatory in-house pharmacy policy viewed as punitive, and isolated infection control issues (Norovirus occurrences) that have affected trust.

Management and operational issues are a polarizing theme. Many reviewers praise supportive management, energized executive leadership, and helpful admissions/sales coordination (including pandemic-era moves). However, other reviewers report poor management behavior, slow responses to concerns, untrustworthy HR practices, and specific managers or aides not performing. These contradictory accounts suggest variability in leadership effectiveness and that resident experience may depend heavily on unit-level leadership and current staffing. Several reviews also mention a perceived decline in quality over time tied to staffing shortages and administrative problems.

Cost and policies are additional practical considerations. A number of reviewers note that the community is expensive — ‘‘very expensive/high price’’ — and several urge prospective families to carefully review policies (pharmacy requirements, COVID-related rules, and staffing ratios). Other logistical caveats include occasional slow responses for admissions information and some residents being unable to cook their own meals, which may matter for those seeking a more independent model.

In summary, The Gables of Green frequently delivers an excellent hospitality-style senior living experience: attractive, clean facilities; high-quality dining; active social programming; and many examples of compassionate, skilled caregiving. These strengths are reinforced by positive accounts of memory care, hospice collaboration, and individualized attention from standout staff. However, there is a recurrent pattern of inconsistencies — chiefly related to staffing levels, management responsiveness, medication handling, and isolated cleanliness or infection-control concerns — that prospective residents and families should investigate further. Recommended next steps for families considering The Gables of Green are to ask specific, current questions about staffing ratios and turnover, medication management and pharmacy policies, response times for call systems and personal care assistance, any recent infection-control events, and how leadership has addressed past complaints. When those operational concerns are clarified and acceptable, many reviews indicate the community can be an excellent choice for residents who prioritize dining, activities, social engagement and a hotel-like senior living environment.

    About The Gables of Green

The Gables of Green has a single-story design and offers a good mix of living options for seniors, including studios, single rooms, one-bed, and two-bedroom apartments, with some apartments having whirlpool spas, and they've thought of things like easy-access bathrooms and kitchenettes too, so folks have space and some independence no matter what kind of care they need, and when it comes to pets, they're allowed on a limited basis, which makes things a little more comfortable for some residents who miss their old routines. Memory care here is strong, focused on offering a warm, dignified, and comforting environment for people living with memory challenges like dementia and Alzheimer's, with staff and services tuned to reducing confusion and providing security, and they've got a whole community built out for folks who may need both assisted living and memory care as they age, which means people don't have to move around too much. The team provides care around the clock, with state oversight and a call system in place for emergencies and general help, and there's a dedicated director of community data, which means someone is always watching over the quality and planning. The apartments come in all sizes, from basic studios with room to maneuver and watch TV, to two-bedroom grand apartments where there's a master suite and a separate guest room, trying to get the feel of home and add some comfort for couples or those with more family visiting. You'll notice the building stays well-lit and has big, open spaces with simple, tasteful décor so it doesn't feel crowded, plus the grounds have walking paths, gardens, and a private courtyard for getting outside when the weather's good. Housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and appointment management are all included, so most of the chores are taken care of, and folks don't have to worry about tracking doctors' schedules or making their beds. Residents have lots of ways to keep busy, with music shows, domestic activities, exercise, and sitting together to talk about old times, plus there's a fitness center, home theater, library, and even a sports bar if people want to wind down with a snack or game, and dining runs all day from 7 am to 7 pm, with healthy snacks available anytime, which works well for different schedules or just smaller appetites. The Gables of Green has trained staff on hand for help with things like bathing and dressing, and they offer massage therapy, salon and barber services, and transportation if a trip to the doctor or grocery is needed. They support independence but step in when help's required, and companionship is part of the plan, whether it's in a furnished short-term suite or a longer stay. Family members get support too, with resources for making decisions about care and living arrangements, and the place gets decent marks from residents and families, with a community score of 8.9 and verified status. Amenities and care aim to keep folks comfortable, mixing independence with support, and encouraging residents to join events, share meals, and enjoy both quiet moments and active days.
