    Cozy environment, inconsistent and neglectful

I'm torn. The small, cozy one-level home with single rooms, bay windows, good food, caring CNAs, a strong activities person, morning exercise, devotionals and weekly pastor visits keeps my mom comfortable and engaged - I'm glad she likes it there. But chronic staff and management turnover, unreturned calls, delayed care conferences, outdated care plans and occasional staff indifference have caused inconsistent, sometimes neglectful care that led to hospitalizations, decline and even a death; administration is often unresponsive and care isn't always as advertised.

    Summary review

The reviews portray Edgewood Mitchell Memory Care as a facility with clear strengths but also serious and recurring concerns. On the positive side, multiple reviewers highlight a strong activity program that keeps residents engaged—morning exercise, devotional time, weekly pastor visits, and seasonal activities are consistently mentioned. The physical setting is repeatedly described as small, single-level, and home-like; private single rooms with en-suite bathrooms and bay windows are called out as tangible advantages that contribute to a peaceful, cozy environment. Several family members specifically praise CNAs for positive interactions and note that residents enjoy the food.

Care quality emerges as a mixed picture. Some reviewers describe tender, professional staff and express relief and satisfaction that their loved ones are comfortable and well cared for. These accounts emphasize individualized attention and a pleasant atmosphere. However, other reviewers report much more serious problems: examples include neglect, apparent indifference from some staff members, documented decline in resident health, hospitalization, and even death. These negative reports are stark and raise safety and quality-of-care concerns. The overall pattern suggests that while the facility can and does provide good care in many instances, the experience may vary substantially from resident to resident.

Staffing and personnel themes appear central to the divergent experiences. Positive remarks about CNAs and caring staff coexist with recurrent complaints about high staff turnover and inconsistent staff performance. Several reviewers link poor outcomes or lapses in care to staffing instability—when familiar, attentive caregivers are not present, families report a drop-off in responsiveness and attentiveness. This inconsistency undermines confidence and appears to be a key driver of the polarized feedback.

Activities and spiritual support stand out as reliable strengths. Reviewers frequently note that residents are kept active and engaged through scheduled exercise, devotional services, and pastor visits, which many families appreciate for both physical and emotional benefits. These programmatic elements contribute to the sense of a warm, community-oriented environment.

Facilities and dining receive generally positive comments. The single-level layout and small scale of the building are seen as appropriate for memory care, making the environment easier to navigate and more intimate. Private rooms with bathrooms and bay windows are repeatedly mentioned and valued. Dining feedback is largely favorable—some reviewers explicitly say their loved one likes the food and they have no complaints in that area.

Administration and communication are recurring problem areas in the reviews. Multiple summaries note management turnover, poor responsiveness from administration, unreturned phone calls, delayed care conferences, and outdated care documentation. These administrative lapses contribute to family frustration and can result in care plans that are not current or not implemented as expected. Several reviewers explicitly say the care provided differs from what was advertised or promised, and that attempts to resolve concerns through management were delayed or unsuccessful.

Overall, the most prominent pattern is variability: the facility demonstrates the capacity to provide a warm, active, and comfortable memory care environment with compassionate staff and good programming, but that capacity appears compromised at times by staffing instability and administrative shortcomings. The presence of severe negative reports (neglect, hospitalization, health decline, death) makes it essential for prospective families to probe specific issues during their evaluation: ask about current staff turnover rates, meet primary caregivers, review how care plans are updated and communicated, request regular care conferences, and obtain references from current residents’ families. In-person visits during different shifts and direct conversations about how the facility handles staffing shortages and emergency situations will help determine whether the positive experiences or the concerning ones are more likely to reflect the ongoing reality at Edgewood Mitchell Memory Care.
