    Caring staff but safety issues

I had a mixed experience. The rooms are bright with natural light, administration and several staff (including the resident doctor and social services director) were caring and helped with excellent post-surgical rehab that made my mom comfortable. However I also encountered serious issues - medication error, unclean bathroom with diarrhea, falls, staff neglect/inaction, missing jewelry and the wrong walker returned, mixed food quality, and poor management response; there was even discomfort around Christian symbols. Overall I appreciated many staff and services but felt safety and consistency were unreliable, and I ultimately relocated my loved one.

    Summary review

Overall impression: The reviews for Good Samaritan Society - Luther Manor are mixed, with a strong split between reviewers who praise the people and environment and others who report serious safety, cleanliness, and management concerns. Many reviewers highlight compassionate, responsive staff and successful clinical outcomes (particularly for post-surgical rehab), while others describe incidents that raise concern about resident safety and operational consistency such as medication errors, falls, and unclean conditions.

Care quality and clinical issues: Several reviewers report very positive care experiences — responsive nurses and therapists, a resident physician who is attentive, and a rehabilitation program that helped a loved one recover after surgery. However, contrasting reports describe medication errors, patient falls, and staff neglect or inaction. These very serious allegations suggest variability in clinical reliability and safety practices. The mixture of glowing clinical praise and reports of lapses indicates inconsistency in care quality that prospective families should investigate further (for example, asking about fall-prevention programs, medication administration safeguards, and staffing levels by shift).

Staff, culture, and administration: A common positive theme is staff who create a family-like atmosphere, make residents comfortable and happy, and maintain a welcoming workplace. Several reviewers explicitly commend social services and administration as caring and helpful. Conversely, at least one reviewer reports poor management response after adverse incidents and recommends relocating their loved one. There is also a notable cultural/religious issue reported: some residents/families perceived a lack of Christian identity or objection to religious symbols (a cross). This highlights that cultural or spiritual expectations may not be uniformly met and could be a point of friction for some families.

Facilities, belongings, and cleanliness: The physical environment receives mixed feedback. Multiple reviewers praise rooms that are bright and well-lit with natural light. Yet other comments point to significant lapses in housekeeping and property management, including an unclean bathroom with diarrhea reported and missing personal items such as jewelry. One reviewer noted the wrong walker was returned to a resident. These issues reflect concerns about infection control, housekeeping standards, tracking of personal belongings, and equipment management.

Dining and daily life: Dining feedback is inconsistent — some reviewers compliment the food, while others describe the food as poor or even 'atrocious.' There is limited information about activities or social programming in the summaries provided, though the presence of a helpful social services director and staff creating a family atmosphere suggests there may be supportive social engagement in some cases. The mixed reports on food quality reinforce the pattern of variability across different aspects of service.

Patterns and recommendations: The reviews reveal pronounced variability: many families and staff are highly satisfied and appreciative of compassionate caregivers and effective rehabilitation, while others encountered serious safety, cleanliness, and management shortcomings. This inconsistency appears to be the most significant pattern. For families considering this facility, recommended due diligence would include touring in person, observing cleanliness and resident interactions, asking for specifics about incident reporting and remediation (medication errors, falls, housekeeping protocols), speaking with the social services director and resident doctor, and clarifying the facility's approach to residents' spiritual or cultural preferences. Prospective residents should also inquire about inventory procedures for personal belongings and equipment tracking to reduce the risk of lost items or incorrect equipment returns.

Bottom line: Good Samaritan Society - Luther Manor has clear strengths in staff compassion, some strong clinical and rehabilitation outcomes, and a pleasant physical setting for some residents. However, the presence of serious negative reports — medication errors, unclean conditions, falls, property management issues, and inconsistent management responses — warrants careful scrutiny. Experiences appear to vary significantly between individuals and over time, so families should gather current, specific information from the facility and other recent residents/families before making placement decisions.
