    Rude staff, neglect, overmedication, eviction

I regret placing my family member here. Staff were rude, unprofessional, and unresponsive-never returned calls, invaded privacy, and ignored concerns; I saw signs of overmedication and suspected misuse of disability funds by an unresponsive payee. Food was poor, there was no proper room (living in the common area), and we faced eviction threats and possible malpractice with no resolution from management.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: The reviews collectively paint a strongly negative picture of South Texas Assisted Living LLC. Multiple reviewers raise serious and recurring concerns, with no compensating positive comments provided. The most frequent themes are unprofessional and rude staff behavior, poor communication and responsiveness from both caregivers and management, and allegations of serious mismanagement of resident care and finances.

Care quality and safety: Several reviews allege troubling care practices. Overmedication is explicitly mentioned, and there are accusations described as "malpractice." These are high-severity concerns because they directly affect resident safety and wellbeing. The reports of medication mismanagement coupled with malpractice allegations suggest potential systemic problems in clinical oversight, medication administration protocols, or staff training. Reviewers also describe privacy invasions, which further undermine residents' sense of safety and dignity.

Staff behavior and communication: Staff conduct is the most consistently criticized area. Reviews use words such as "unprofessional," "rude," and express "concerns about staff behavior." Communication failures are repeatedly noted — phone calls are not returned, staff and management are described as unresponsive, and families report no meaningful follow-up or resolution when they raise issues. This pattern indicates problems with customer service, complaint handling processes, and possibly staffing levels or staff training in family engagement and professional conduct.

Facilities and living conditions: There are specific complaints that a resident had "no proper room" and was "living in the living room," which implies inadequate accommodation assignment or resource constraints. This complaint raises questions about the facility's ability to provide appropriate private living spaces and to honor rooming agreements or care plans. Alongside privacy invasion claims, these issues suggest that residents may not be receiving the environment and level of personal dignity expected in an assisted living setting.

Dining and daily life: Food quality is singled out as "bad." While only one theme here, dining is an important part of residents' daily experience, and negative comments about meals add to the overall dissatisfaction. Combined with concerns about living arrangements and staff behavior, poor dining can contribute to a generally low quality of life for residents.

Financial and management concerns: Several reviews raise serious financial and administrative issues, including allegations that a payee is unresponsive and that disability funds have been misused. These are grave allegations because they affect residents' financial security and trust in the facility's administrative oversight. The mention of threats of eviction further compounds these concerns, suggesting a fraught relationship between residents or their representatives and facility management. Together, these points indicate potential failures in fiduciary responsibility, billing transparency, and dispute resolution processes.

Patterns and implications: The recurring nature of these complaints — staff unprofessionalism, unresponsiveness to calls and complaints, and allegations of medication and financial mismanagement — suggests systemic problems rather than isolated incidents. Multiple independent reviewers reporting similar themes strengthens the credibility of the pattern. These issues are likely to impact resident safety, dignity, and family trust, and they raise concerns that may warrant investigation by licensing authorities or ombudsman services.

Summary conclusion: Based solely on the supplied review summaries, South Texas Assisted Living LLC faces multiple, serious criticisms across clinical care, staff conduct, facility accommodations, dining, communication, and financial management. The reviews emphasize an absence of responsiveness and resolution from management when problems are raised. Any prospective resident or family should treat these patterns as red flags and seek detailed, up-to-date information from the facility, regulatory records, and third-party oversight entities before making placement decisions.

About South Texas Assisted Living LLC

South Texas Assisted Living LLC sits just outside Loop 410 by San Pedro Ave in San Antonio, and folks say it feels like home because there's a garden apartment setup with 65 units and tree-lined sidewalks, which makes walking pleasant and keeps things peaceful, and you'll find both apartment-style living and semi-private spaces so residents can choose some privacy or share if they like, and you'll see cheerful staff who've stuck around for over twenty years, always greeting people with a smile and offering help, which comes in handy because the place handles a big mix of care needs, from assisted living for help with dressing, bathing, and medication, to skilled nursing when someone needs wound care or a bit more support. The building itself is always busy with things going on, from karaoke to pool tournaments, and the activities team runs daily social, physical, and emotional group events plus, next door, the New Dawn Adult Day Care runs a day program every weekday from 7:30 to 2:00 with coffee, meals, and both inside and out activities, which gives people a routine if they want it.

The kitchen staff makes three home-cooked meals a day, and snacks, using plans from meal planners and chefs, which is good for folks who like a real sit-down meal, though if residents feel like a change they can also use their personal kitchenettes. The dining room works restaurant-style and handles special diets, whether someone needs pureed food or avoids certain things. There's pet therapy, too, and pets are welcome to move in, which means a lot to people who miss their animals, plus there's a big courtyard and garden where folks like to sit or walk with their pets. Rooms are fully furnished but you can bring your own things, and the place keeps a steady 23-point cleaning checklist with rooms cleaned every week and regular linen and laundry services so no one's left without fresh clothes or sheets.

The staff keeps an eye on everyone all the time, with 24-hour on-site support, and the medication system involves secure storage and trained staff who pass medications, so things don't get mixed up. They help people with daily living, handle bathing, dressing, and transferring from wheelchairs, and even have IV therapy when needed. Family, physicians, home health, and hospice teams all coordinate together, and there's always help with transportation to appointments.

For those with Alzheimer's or dementia, memory care comes with a secure area so wandering isn't a problem, plus special activities aimed to help memory and keep the mind active, and the spaces are arranged for both comfort and safety with easy ways to get around, including high-speed internet and handicap-accessible facilities. Mental health support is a focus too, with compassionate help for people who have extra needs, and developmental disability services mean custom diets and mobility help are available, so every resident gets care that fits. Folks who need a break or short-term care can use the respite option, and staff works with residents and families to help with benefits or assistance programs so costs are manageable.

The courtyard is lush and the shaded streets make outdoor walks easy, while inside you'll find a library, common rooms meant for socializing, and balconies for fresh air. Parking is covered and plentiful, with easy street parking if visitors come by. Security is a priority, with emergency access in all units. South Texas Assisted Living wins top marks for food and warmth in reviews, and its Best of Senior Living and All Star awards reflect its efforts, but even then, it never tries to be fancy, just well-run and honest with services people count on. Housekeeping, laundry, utilities, meals, transportation, and activities are all bundled in, and there's always another activity, a friendly face, or a helping hand if needed, which is the heart behind how the place works.
