    Informative tour, excellent care, recommended

I had an on-time, informative tour and found the staff friendly, professional and very communicative. The community and rooms are clean and well-maintained, meals are excellent (trained chefs) and there are lots of activities that keep residents engaged. I'm very happy with the care - a great fit for my mom and I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviewers describe Emerald Valley Assisted Living as a community with a generally positive culture of care. Families and visitors emphasize courteous, attentive staff and frequent communication from the team, with particular praise for a cohesive staff approach and a helpful marketing/admissions presence. Many accounts indicate that residents appear engaged and content, and reviewers commonly recommend the community as a good fit for relatives.

Care quality and staff: The staff are consistently characterized as friendly, professional, and attentive. Reviewers noted effective handling of residents with memory impairment and the presence of wandering-safety features such as door alarms. At the same time, some feedback raises operational concerns about intermittent understaffing; reviewers linked staffing constraints to occasional delays or limited availability of staff time. Overall, families report clear, respectful communication and a team-oriented culture, but staffing levels may be a factor to confirm during follow-up visits.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining is a clear strength in the reviews: trained chefs, a good variety of meals, and frequent praise for food quality and presentation. Housekeeping is reported as reliable, with clean rooms and common areas, regular trash removal, and no notable odor concerns. These aspects contribute to perceptions of good day-to-day living conditions.

Activities and therapeutic engagement: The community offers a range of activities and places emphasis on encouraging movement and social engagement. Reviewers mention daily programming, opportunities for physical improvement, and general resident participation. Activity offerings are viewed positively and as contributing to residents' wellbeing.

Facilities and accessibility: The facility is described as clean and well maintained but occupies an older building with finishes that some find less polished than alternative options. Room sizes are commonly described as small; while rooms may come furnished, limited square footage and certain layout choices create accessibility challenges for residents who use walkers. Prospective residents should assess room dimensions and circulation paths against mobility needs.

Management and notable patterns: Tours are described as punctual and informative, and admissions/marketing staff receive favorable mentions for responsiveness and helpfulness. The community is viewed by many as an improvement over previous living situations and as offering fair value. A notable inconsistency in the reviews concerns memory-care structure: while staff expertise and safety measures for memory impairment are praised, there are also statements indicating a lack of a separate memory-care unit. Prospective families should clarify the community’s formal memory-care programming and unit availability during the decision process.

Recommendation for prospective families: Emerald Valley appears to provide strong frontline caregiving, appealing dining, and active programming within a clean setting. Key follow-up items before committing should include verification of staffing levels and shift coverage, confirmation of memory-care accommodations and protocols, and an in-person assessment of room size and layout relative to mobility needs. These checks will help ensure the community’s operational characteristics align with a prospective resident’s clinical and functional requirements.

    About Emerald Valley Assisted Living

Emerald Valley Assisted Living sits in Appleton, Wisconsin, right near the Calumet, Outagamie, and Winnebago county lines, and you'll find it just off the 441 & Oneida Street exit, which makes it easy for families to get to. The community has room for up to 20 residents, and you'll find a mix of one-bedroom apartments, shared units, and small studios, each with simple, functional designs-fully furnished if needed-which makes it less complicated for folks who want a smooth move-in without fuss. Security's covered around the clock, and there's a 24-hour call system, so help's always close at hand, day or night, and that does bring some peace of mind, especially if someone needs assistance fast.

Emerald Valley has a secured property made specifically with memory care in mind, so seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia can live in a safer, more supervised place, and they use things like bracelets with alarms to help keep residents from wandering off, which is good for families worried about safety. You'll find separate areas for memory care, and staff are used to working with folks who might have bigger behavior problems or who wander, so that's something people sometimes ask about. The staff, who are around all the time, are trained to look after everything from occasional help to total care-covering bathing, dressing, getting around, feeding with a spoon if needed, incontinence care, and close monitoring for falls or medication needs-so residents can usually stay even as their needs change, and families don't have to worry about finding another place later on. There's a nurse on call, and a podiatrist and dentist can stop by, plus they've got an on-site dietitian, rehabilitation services, physical, occupational, and speech therapies too, which helps with aging in place.

Residents get freshly prepared meals every day, and special diets are no trouble-if someone's diabetic, needs low sodium or gluten-free meals, the kitchen staff will handle that, and meals can even be arranged for visitors. There's a private dining room for occasions, and for daily life, people can enjoy eating together if they like. Activities change every day, and they make a point to have things on-site and off-site, so whether it's art and cooking classes, gardening clubs, trivia games, karaoke, Wii bowling, or just scheduled stretching and social activities, there's usually something for anyone to join in. They'll also help folks get to doctor's appointments or arrange trips for shopping and such, and there's on-site parking for both residents and visiting guests.

Emerald Valley lets residents have small pets like cats and dogs, though they check to make sure it's a good fit for everyone, and there's a garden and walking paths outside for exercise or just fresh air-a nice spot when the weather's good. Indoors, there are community rooms for games and socializing, a chapel for services (with devotional gatherings both on- and off-site), an arts room, cable or satellite TV in living spaces, and high-speed internet for those who want it. You'll also find a beauty and barber salon on-site, which means people can keep up on haircuts without leaving, and wheelchair-accessible showers and bathrooms to help those with limited movement. They take care of medication management and offer help with any day-to-day task, and if life brings big health changes, hospice and respite care are available too, so people don't have to move in a hurry.

Emerald Valley is a state-licensed Community Based Residential Facility, so folks can count on a certain standard of care, and they focus on keeping things homelike and supportive, aiming for everyone to "live life with confidence," as they like to say. It's a purpose-built place, and while nobody can promise perfection, many families appreciate that residents don't get asked to leave just because their care needs change. If you're looking, they do welcome tours anytime, so it's easier for people to see if this kind of community feels like the right fit.
