    Attentive staff expensive small rooms

I'm glad we chose this small, home-like memory care - the staff are kind, attentive and responsive, administration is available, and communication is excellent. My loved one enjoys engaging activities, well-prepared meals, and a clean, bright facility; staff often go above and beyond and feel like family. Downsides: it's expensive, rooms are small, there can be occasional odors and housekeeping lapses, and many services are a la carte. Overall I'm pleased and would recommend it for families needing attentive dementia care, but confirm costs and cleanliness beforehand.

    About Brookdale Brookfield Capitol Dr

Brookdale Brookfield Capitol Dr sits in a quiet part of Brookfield, Wisconsin, just a short drive from Milwaukee, and the place has a safe, home-like feel, especially for people living with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia. The community offers assisted living services, independent living, skilled nursing, and memory care, so residents can get more help as their needs change, and there's even a Continuing Care Retirement option and at-home care help if needed. Staff stay on site 24/7 to help with emergencies, bathing, dressing, grooming, and medication, and a nurse is always on call. For those with memory issues, including mid to advanced stages of dementia, there's the Clare Bridge and Solace programs, and the Daily Moments of Success give residents encouragement and hope. The building's set up with easy navigation so people don't get lost, having an enclosed courtyard, walking paths, circular trails, and outdoor garden areas where folks can spend time or take care of raised garden beds. Residents can bring pets with them, and they can choose from different suite layouts, each with private bathrooms, emergency call systems, cable or satellite TV, and Wi-Fi. Safety is handled with gated entry, controlled building access, wellness checks, security systems, and emergency call features, while the facility is one level to make things easier to get around, with wheelchair accessibility and tools to help move people who need extra support.

The staff get special training for memory care, behavior management, chronic diseases, and personal care, and there's a focus on keeping everyone's rights and dignity in mind. There's a good staff-to-resident ratio, and the employees go through screening and licensing as the state requires. Meals are home-style, set at regular times every day, and a chef and nutritionist make sure food works for different diets, including diabetic or low-salt needs, and snacks are available. Residents can use the on-site beauty salon, barbershop, arts and crafts room, computer room, and library, and there's a family room with a cozy fireplace for when visitors show up. Both indoor and outdoor areas are accessible, giving space for games, music, fitness classes, gardening, dancing, karaoke, and even special events like movie nights, socials, and cultural or spiritual activities. Transportation services are on hand for doctor's visits and other trips. Housekeeping and laundry are provided, and cleaning and maintenance keep the place comfortable and free of pests. For those with religious needs, there are onsite services, including Catholic and other church gatherings, and support for veterans through VA aid.

The whole community is set up to help people live well at every stage, whether they're living independently or need special help because of memory loss. Activities and programs are based on personal interests and histories, so everyone has a chance to feel engaged and included. The environment encourages family visits, dignity, and safe independence, while offering the right amount of help from caring professionals, and the space is comfortable, welcoming, and secure.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
