    Spotless homey riverside facility recommended

I toured and moved my mother here and have been very pleased: the place is spotless, home-like, and set on a beautiful riverside/woods site with lots of music and wildlife. The staff are friendly, respectful and attentive (there's an RN house manager), communication is good, and families feel welcomed - I would highly recommend it. One caveat: meals tend to be cheese/pasta-heavy and may not suit special diets, though recent management changes seem to be improving things.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews for Comforts of Home Advanced Assisted Living - Chippewa Falls is largely positive, with recurring praise for the staff, setting, and homelike atmosphere, but there are notable and repeated concerns that point to inconsistency in management, staffing/training, and dining for some residents.

Care quality and staff: The strongest and most consistent theme is praise for the caregiving staff. Multiple reviews describe aides as caring, respectful, kind-hearted, and even becoming friends with residents and families. Reviewers frequently note a family-like dynamic and that staff members are welcoming, attentive, and focused on residents' best interests. Several reviews emphasize that the house manager is a registered nurse (RN), and that clinical leadership (including a director named Autumn in newer reviews) has improved communication and attentiveness. However, this positive portrayal is not universal: a number of reviews allege unhappy staff, resident neglect, and untrained CNAs. These negative reports suggest variability in training, oversight, or staffing levels at times, and they contrast sharply with the many positive staff accounts.

Facilities and location: Reviewers consistently praise the facility's location and physical environment. The riverside/woods setting on the Chippewa River, proximity to downtown and local clinics, and frequent wildlife sightings (deer and turkeys) are repeatedly highlighted as major selling points. Common areas such as lounges and dining rooms are described as pleasant and attractive; many mention freshly painted, spacious rooms and generally clean, home-like decor. Several reviewers explicitly say the facility is very clean and well-maintained. Still, a few reviewers reported rooms not being cleaned, which again points to inconsistency in housekeeping standards for some residents or periods.

Dining and activities: Experiences with dining are mixed. Several reviewers praise the meals as fantastic and say staff are responsive to resident needs. Conversely, at least one review criticizes recurring menu patterns (cheese- and pasta-heavy meals) and notes that this was not suitable for a resident with specific digestive or MS-related concerns. Activities are mentioned positively overall: there is frequent music, a variety of offered activities, and the environment is described as lively and homey. For prospective residents with dietary restrictions or special nutritional needs, the dining inconsistency reported suggests it would be important to discuss menu planning and accommodations in detail.

Management, consistency, and cost: A clear pattern in the reviews is variability over time or between reviewers. Some praise recent management changes and name the new director (Autumn) as effective, communicating well and improving care, while others describe the management as 'terrible' and point to unhappy staff and neglect. This suggests the facility may be in transition or that experiences can vary depending on timing, team shifts, or individual expectations. Cost is another concern raised by at least one reviewer who described the facility as expensive, though other reviewers noted 'no hidden fees.'

Notable patterns and takeaways: Most reviewers recommend the facility and emphasize its strengths—compassionate staff, RN leadership, attractive riverside location, and a homelike atmosphere with engaging activities. However, there are consistent minority reports of serious problems (resident neglect, untrained CNAs, rooms not cleaned, and management issues) that cannot be ignored. These mixed signals point to variability in service delivery and suggest that quality may depend on staffing levels, recent leadership changes, or specific wings/shifts.

Advice for prospective families: When evaluating Comforts of Home Chippewa Falls in person, consider asking targeted questions about current management and staff turnover, CNA training and supervision, housekeeping schedules and standards, how dietary restrictions are accommodated, and how incidents/complaints are handled. Observe staff-resident interactions during multiple shifts if possible, request recent inspection or complaint records, and arrange to visit during a meal and an activity to get a clearer picture of consistency. Overall, the facility shows many strong attributes and a generally positive reputation, but the mixed negative reports warrant careful, focused inquiry before making a placement decision.
