    Immaculate caring memory care, recommended

I placed my dad here and have been very pleased overall. The brand-new, immaculate building and spacious memory-care suites (private baths, walk-in showers, garden, spa room, combined dining/common areas) feel safe and welcoming. The leadership and caregiving staff are exceptional - compassionate, professional, proactive, and family-like - and activities have noticeably improved his quality of life. My only concerns have been occasional kitchen turnover/poor meals and some staffing shortages that affect consistency, but the caring team and clean, amenity-rich community make this a place I would recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with repeated praise for the facility's modern, comfortable environment and a staff that many families describe as compassionate, professional, and proactive. Multiple reviewers emphasize that the building (opened in 2019) is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed for seniors — private, spacious rooms with private baths and walk-in showers, a secure memory care unit, a combined dining/common area, a spa room, and an outdoor garden are cited as strong physical assets. Several reviews highlight an energetic, welcoming atmosphere and comfortable decor that contributes to families feeling confident and reassured about their loved ones' living conditions.

Care quality and staff performance receive consistently strong marks in many reviews. Staff (both administrative and caregiving) are often described as attentive, educated, compassionate, and respectful. Reviewers note managers who are visible and engaged, proactive problem-solving and communication, nutrition monitoring, and a family-like approach to residents. Multiple accounts indicate that the staff met or exceeded expectations, handled challenging care needs, and improved residents' quality of life — in some cases going above and beyond, and even helping with financial assistance or placement for family members. These testimonials point to an organizational culture that, for many families, prioritizes resident safety, dignity, and individualized care.

Facilities, activities, and social programming are also highlighted positively. The memory care unit is described as spacious and secure, and programming such as singalongs and socials (which mix dementia and regular residents) is mentioned as keeping residents active and engaged. Reviewers praise housekeeping and cleanliness repeatedly, and several single out the presence of a full-time chef and appetizing, nutritious menus as strengths. However, dining feedback is mixed: while some reviewers explicitly praise the food and the on-site chef, others report that meals were terrible or that kitchen/meal service has been inconsistent. This divergence suggests variability in dining experience over time or differences in individual expectations and dietary needs.

Notwithstanding the many positives, a few notable concerns recur and temper the overwhelmingly favorable comments. Several reviewers raised issues around management reliability, citing promises that were not kept; one family explicitly declined placement because of those concerns. Staffing shortages or insufficient staff were reported in some reviews, which could impact response times, individualized attention, or programming consistency if those shortages are present. The most consistent negative single issue across reviews is the mixed assessment of food quality — with strong praise from some families and significant dissatisfaction from others. Additionally, while most reviews laud staff performance, a few describe staff as merely 'okay,' indicating some variability in individual caregiver interactions or expectations.

In summary, The Legacy of DeForest is commonly perceived as a modern, clean, and well-appointed senior community with strong memory care accommodations and an engaged caregiving team. Strengths include the facility's design, private rooms, secure environment, active social programming, visible leadership, and numerous reports of compassionate, proactive staff who improve residents' quality of life. The principal areas to investigate further — based on the mixed feedback — are management consistency, staffing levels/scheduling, and dining quality. Prospective families should consider touring the community, asking specific questions about current staffing ratios and turnover, inquiring about meal planning and kitchen staffing stability, and requesting references from current families to confirm that the highly positive experiences are consistent and enduring.

    About The Legacy of DeForest

The Legacy of DeForest is a senior living community where folks find different living options like independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even nursing home and continuing care retirement community services, so whether someone wants a bit of support or more help day-to-day, there's something for them here. You'll find special residences such as Ashwabay House and Sosa House, and rooms come furnished, cozy, and spacious, often with private bathrooms, which many residents enjoy for comfort and privacy, while dedicated staff handle cleaning, laundry, and maintenance, taking those chores right off everyone's plate. Residents are looked after with 24-hour staff and a round-the-clock call system, so if help's needed at any hour, someone is ready to assist; there's extra attention for those in memory care with safe, secure areas and person-centered support to ease confusion and prevent wandering, especially for folks with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

Meals are prepared by chefs and meal planners, and dining options include restaurant-style service, all-day menus, and allergy-sensitive dishes, with seasonal dishes adding variety and nutrition to menus. People here don't just sit around: there are movie nights in a theater room, happy hours in the pub, group outings to musicals and local restaurants, entertainment like live music, and plenty of resident-run activities, plus a library stocked with good books for quiet times. The arts room, beauty salon/barber shop, gardens, and walking paths give both indoor and outdoor choices for leisure, and pet lovers will like knowing dogs and cats are welcome on campus. The iN2L system offers programs and experiences to keep minds active, while Wi-Fi and high-speed internet connect residents to family and the world.

When appointments come up, a bus takes folks out to the doctor, dentist, therapy, worship services, or even casino trips, making outside errands less stressful. Residents who require daily help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, or transferring between rooms get personalized assistance, while people who are more independent can enjoy hassle-free living without giving up social moments. Emergency alert systems and handicapped accessibility features keep everyone safer and more comfortable, and the staff focus hard on dignity, individuality, and encouraging independence for every resident. The Legacy of DeForest runs on Monday through Saturday from 8:00 to 17:00, and more details about daily life and services can be found at their website, parkvistaliving.org/the-legacy-of-deforest. Right now, the facility is closed.
