    Caring staff, clean home, concerns

My spouse is getting great care and my dad seems content - the staff are caring and the new House Manager is doing a great job. It's a small, very clean, homey place with old-style furnishings, excellent homemade food, ample activity spaces, and a convenient downtown location in a quaint walkable town. The building is a remodeled old hospital that needs updates. I have concerns about nursing staff misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and privacy issues, so I recommend them with reservations.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is mixed but leans positive on several quality-of-life dimensions while raising serious concerns about staff conduct that warrant attention. Multiple reviewers emphasize a warm, home-like atmosphere, cleanliness, good homemade food, and a small, intimate setting in a walkable, convenient downtown location. At the same time, there are explicit and serious negative reports of nursing staff misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and privacy concerns that conflict with the otherwise favorable descriptions of care and environment.

Care quality and staff: Several reviewers explicitly describe staff as caring and attentive, with specific praise for personal care (comments like "spouse getting great care" and "contented dad"). The new House Manager is singled out as doing a great job, and at least one writer would highly recommend the community based on the care their family member received. These positive comments suggest that many residents and families experience compassionate, effective caregiving and responsive day-to-day support. However, this positive picture is tempered by a very concerning report of nursing staff misconduct and unprofessional behavior that included privacy-related issues. The presence of both strong praise and a serious allegation indicates inconsistency in staff performance or isolated incidents that significantly affect perception. This contrast is one of the most notable patterns across the reviews.

Facilities, décor, and location: The building appears to be a remodeled older structure (specifically a converted or remodeled old hospital), which contributes to a homey, old-styled aesthetic. Reviewers repeatedly note that furnishings and styling are not modern, describing the environment as "homey" and "old-styled." The facility is described as very clean and small in size, which many reviewers view positively for a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The location is a clear strength: convenient, near downtown shops, and situated in a quaint town with amenities within walking distance. At the same time, multiple mentions that the place "needs updates" or is "not modern" suggest that while cleanliness and charm are present, some physical aspects and décor could benefit from renovation or modernization.

Dining, activities, and communal spaces: Dining receives favorable comments, with reviewers calling the food "homemade" and "very good." Social life is supported by "ample social/activities spaces," which aligns with positive impressions of resident life and opportunities for engagement. The small size may contribute to a more tightly knit community and easier access to communal activities. The combination of good food, adequate activity areas, and a downtown location points to a facility that can support a pleasant daily routine and opportunities for socialization.

Management and patterns of concern: Management appears to be a relative strength currently, as the new House Manager is noted positively. That suggests recent leadership changes may be improving operations or resident experience. Nevertheless, the serious allegation of nursing staff misconduct, coupled with reported unprofessional behavior and privacy concerns, introduces a critical caveat. These are not minor complaints about aesthetics; they relate to resident safety, dignity, and trust. The reviews thus reveal a pattern of largely positive everyday experiences for some residents and families, alongside at least one deeply negative experience that colors the overall reputation. The presence of both "would recommend highly" and "would not recommend" in different reviews underscores inconsistent experiences.

Conclusion: In summary, Traditions of Frederic is commonly described as a small, clean, homey community in a convenient, walkable location with good homemade food and adequate activity spaces. Many families praise the caring staff and recent management improvements. However, the explicitly reported nursing misconduct, unprofessional behavior, and privacy concerns are significant and should be treated as red flags: they represent serious negative outcomes that could have major implications for resident well-being. The mixed nature of the reviews suggests variability in experience—strong positives for some residents and alarming negatives for others—so prospective residents and families should weigh the favorable daily-life attributes against the reported staff-related issues and seek clarifying information when evaluating the community.

    About Traditions of Frederic

Traditions of Frederic is a small, quiet community in a small town, and it keeps things simple with an old-fashioned, homey feel you don't see everywhere, with clean surroundings, comfortable furniture, and good homemade meals folks say are both tasty and nutritious, and you've got staff who stay awake all night to help out, so you don't have to worry about being left alone. There are 15 resident beds, and it's set up as a Community Based Residential Facility with license #0013890, and you'll find they've got independent living for active seniors, assisted living for those who need some daily help, and specialized memory care set up in a separate building for people facing Alzheimer's or dementia, where the doors stay locked, there's a secured yard, alarms on the exits, and a computerized system that lets staff know right away if someone tries to wander-so people who might get lost are kept safe, and they even use removal bracelets that ring if someone heads out. Rent, utilities, maintenance, some meals, and housekeeping are included in a base fee that depends on room size and care level, and there's an extra community fee called a reservation deposit, sometimes refunded if health problems keep someone from moving in, but the main thing is the cost goes up if residents need more help-so people who need a lot more help with bathing, eating, or moving around pay more, and the staff can do one-person, two-person, and even mechanical lift transfers for folks who can't walk, and they offer help with medication, reminders, and cueing, all the way up to heavy care. There's support for mild cognitive impairment, dementia, diabetes care-including blood sugar checks and insulin shots-care for people who can't walk, and even a hospice waiver, so you know there's a wide range of things they can handle. Residents can expect three planned meals a day, snacks, diabetic diet options, meals for allergies, all-day dining, and the kitchen will work with special requests. They offer housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, telephone service, and a furnished place to live, so people don't need to worry about buying fancy furniture. The setting includes walking paths, a small garden, indoor common areas, and regular onsite activities like movie nights plus devotional services offsite and social clubs. Resident parking and complimentary transportation help folks get around, either to the clinic or out into town, and everything's wheelchair accessible, so people with mobility issues aren't limited in where they go inside. The staff takes care of people prone to wandering, behavioral challenges, or incontinence, and makes sure everyone stays safe and well looked after, so families can have some peace of mind. There's training for all staff in Alzheimer's and dementia care, with care plans made for each person's needs, and help is given kindly. Traditions of Frederic is part of the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association, is connected to other member communities called Traditions of Frederic I and II, and links to programs like the Frederic Clinic, Suite Living SENIOR MEMORY Care, St Croix Hospice, and Frederic Nutrition Program, so residents and families have access to a range of local support. The facility keeps a simple, slow pace and respects traditions, making sure residents feel comfortable and included in daily life.
