    Caring community with minor issues

I placed my mother at McCormick and was immediately sold - caring, knowledgeable staff and nurses who know residents by name, very good food, daily Mass/rosary and engaging activities in a beautiful, homey, tree-lined setting. She's well cared for, has made friends, feels safe and happy, and seasonal events/comfortable common areas keep her active. There have been some recent issues with laundry/housekeeping, occasional meal lapses and unprofessional behavior that need attention, but overall it's been a blessing for our family.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive: many reviewers describe McCormick Assisted Living as a warm, welcoming community with strong spiritual programming, engaging activities, good dining, and staff who are friendly and attentive. Multiple comments highlight residents feeling well cared for, forming friendships, and enjoying a spacious apartment and pleasant setting with trees and safe walking areas. The presence of daily Mass, an on‑site church, and regular rosary is a clear strength for residents seeking faith‑based programming. Seasonal events, open gathering areas, and well‑furnished respite rooms also contribute to a homelike atmosphere that many families appreciate.

Care quality and staff interactions are among the most frequently mentioned themes. Numerous reviews praise nurses, CNAs, and specific staff members (Donna is named) for being helpful, knowledgeable, and caring—staff who learn residents' names, assist with spiritual activities, and make families feel comfortable about a loved one’s placement. These positive reports indicate a core of committed caregivers and a personal approach to residents. However, there are also serious, recurring negative reports about staff professionalism: some reviewers mention staff arguing in front of residents and verbal abuse. This sharp contrast suggests inconsistency in staff behavior, which may reflect isolated incidents or broader managerial issues that require attention.

Facility condition and housekeeping produce similarly mixed feedback. Many reviewers emphasize cleanliness, the absence of a 'nursing home' smell, and well‑kept common areas and rooms. Conversely, other reviews describe soiled linens, unpleasant hallway odors, rooms that are dirty, and a perceived decline in reputation. These opposing accounts point to variability in housekeeping standards or uneven implementation of cleaning protocols over time or between units. Laundry service is another notable operational concern: several reviewers report unreliable laundry pick‑up/return, missing articles, and frustration over lost items. These logistical problems can significantly affect resident comfort and family trust, and they appear frequently enough to be a pattern rather than isolated anecdotes.

Dining and food service are mostly praised—many residents and family members say the meals are good, with choices and appealing presentation. Yet some reviewers report the kitchen being closed at times, inconsistent meal delivery, or lapses in service. This inconsistency in dining aligns with other operational complaints and could reflect staffing shortages, scheduling changes, or management issues that lead to variable resident experience.

Activities, social life, and the neighborhood are clear strengths. Reviewers commonly mention a rich calendar of entertainment and activities that keep residents engaged and help form friendships. The setting—described as beautiful, tree‑lined, family‑friendly, and safe—supports outdoor walking and neighborly interaction (even small pleasures like giving dogs treats), enhancing perceived quality of life.

In summary, McCormick Assisted Living receives substantial praise for its people‑centered aspects: caring clinical staff (for many residents), spiritual offerings, social activities, good food, and a pleasant physical environment. However, recurring and specific concerns about housekeeping, laundry, inconsistent meal service, room temperature issues, and occasional unprofessional staff conduct introduce variability in the resident experience. The pattern suggests that while core strengths are real and meaningful, operational inconsistencies—possibly tied to staffing, management, or turnover—have led to notable negative experiences for some residents and families. Prospective families should weigh the positive testimonials about care, community, and spiritual life against the operational complaints, and consider asking facility management for current information on housekeeping protocols, laundry procedures, staffing stability, incident resolution processes, and how the facility addresses reports of staff misconduct.

McCormick has plenty of support services such as housekeeping, laundry and dry cleaning, family support, and both Medicaid and Medicare are accepted. Fun things to do like lively Bingo games, classic movies, music, crafts, games in the activity room, and outings keep folks busy every day, while volunteers and resident-run activities add to the social life, plus there's an outdoor garden, raised vegetable beds, patios, walking paths, and a fitness room for those who enjoy being outside or staying active. The dining room serves home-style meals prepared by a professional chef and offers options for dietary needs like diabetes or allergies, and there's a beauty salon and hair appointments for anyone who wants to visit. Mass services happen in the on-site chapel, Sunday through Friday at 9:30 a.m., and anyone can join for rosary or prayer as part of the supportive, faith-filled atmosphere where staff support residents' physical, social, emotional, and spiritual needs. There's community living spaces for gatherings and an activity calendar made by the community, plus transportation, move-in coordination, and a concierge are available to help new residents get settled. Multilingual caregivers, with staff who speak English, are on hand to assist, and the place keeps a focus on compassionate, respectful service without forgetting the simple comforts that help people feel at home.
