    Great daily care, crisis failures

I appreciated the clean, well-appointed facility and the independent/assisted apartments - roomy units, pleasant dining and activity areas, and CNAs who genuinely treated my parents like family. Sadly management and communication failed us when it mattered most: the director was often unavailable, staff seemed short-handed, my POA authority was ignored, a lockbox/room access was denied, and we were not properly notified at my mom's end of life. Overall great day-to-day care, but unacceptable failures in crisis management.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is mixed but leans positive for day-to-day caregiving and the physical environment, while expressing serious concerns about leadership, communication, and administrative procedures. Reviewers consistently praise the facility's cleanliness, apartment-style units, comfortable common areas, and the compassion of front-line caregivers. At the same time, multiple reviewers raised alarming incidents involving management responsiveness, end-of-life communication, and family access that suggest systemic administrative issues needing attention.

Facilities and accommodations receive strong positive remarks. Reviewers note independent units that include living rooms and kitchenettes, and some two-level layouts with bedrooms and bathrooms on a lower level; assisted living studio apartments are described as a nice size. Common areas such as the dining room, activity room, and sitting room are described as clean, comfortable, and orderly. The overall impression of the physical plant is that it is well-maintained and pleasant for residents.

Care quality and frontline staff are highlighted positively. There are no complaints reported about CNAs in the summaries, and several reviewers describe the staff as wonderful, treating residents like family. Family members say parents 'love it' and feel they are 'in good hands.' These comments indicate that direct caregiving and resident interactions are a strong point for the community and contribute to resident and family satisfaction.

Dining and activities are viewed favorably in the available comments. The dining room is specifically called clean and nice, and activity/sitting rooms are noted as comfortable, suggesting the social and communal aspects of the community function well. These elements, combined with the apartment-style living, support a positive daily life for residents in most respects.

However, serious concerns are consistently reported about management, communication, and administrative protocols. Key issues include staff shortages/being short-handed, an unavailable or unresponsive director, and reported failures in notifying families during an end-of-life situation. There are multiple notes about confusion over power-of-attorney authority and a specific, troubling incident in which a lock box was removed and family members were denied access to the resident's room after the resident's death. These issues point to breakdowns in escalation procedures, clarity of authority, and family communication during critical moments. While frontline caregivers are praised, leadership and administrative processes appear inconsistent and in at least one case caused significant distress to a family.

In summary, KindredHearts of Green Lake appears to offer a clean, comfortable environment with compassionate direct-care staff and apartment-style living that many residents and families appreciate. The most significant and recurring negatives relate to staffing levels and, more importantly, administrative and communication failures at the management level—particularly around critical events such as end-of-life care and family access. Addressing leadership responsiveness, clarifying POA procedures, ensuring reliable notification protocols, and resolving lock-box/access policies would likely resolve the most damaging concerns while preserving the strong aspects of resident care and facilities.

    About KindredHearts of Green Lake

KindredHearts of Green Lake offers different living options for older adults, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, and short-term respite care, so folks can find what suits their needs as they age, and the staff really do try to give support while letting people stay as independent as possible, and you'll find meals prepared three times a day with snacks and drinks always available, plus you can ask for meals made for allergies or diabetes. All the rooms come furnished, and there's always a nurse and trained staff around all day and night, with some folks just needing a hand with things like bathing, dressing, or reminding about medicine, while there are also caregivers and secure areas designed to watch over people living with dementia or anyone who might wander, and they've got personal reminders and check-ins during the day, medication help, non-ambulatory assistance, and care for chronic health needs. The community has a homelike setting, with indoor spaces such as lounges, a family room, a library, and a living room with a fireplace, and then there are nice outdoor areas like a greenhouse, patio, barbecue spot, raised garden beds, walking paths, and countryside views, which make it feel inviting. The activity calendar stays full with things like movie nights, community events, social gatherings, specialty programs to keep bodies and minds active, and there's a full-time activities staff just to make sure no one sits alone if they don't want to. For folks who need to get to doctor appointments or errands, there's resident parking, transportation included with some fees, and help both inside and outdoors, plus visiting nurses, podiatrists, therapists, and onsite care like dental and eye checks through their Health Drive program. There's a beauty and barber shop so residents can get a haircut or style without leaving home, and devotional services are offered both at KindredHearts and offsite, for those who want it. The community is open to seniors aged 55 and older and they manage all the usual upkeep like laundry, housekeeping, mail delivery, and linens, taking a lot of those worries away, and it's got an emergency system and care team ready for anything night or day. The approach here is to make sure everyone has a plan that fits their health and personal wishes, and people can usually stay in the community even as needs change, whether that's hospice, skilled nursing, or just a bit more care. It's connected with Barrett House of Green Lake, too, and some residents choose the board and care home options in nearby neighborhoods. Overall, KindredHearts of Green Lake has tried to blend the comforts of home with support and medical oversight, and they've made sure there's enough to do and people around to help, so each day can be a good day for folks living there.
