    Great frontline care, poor management

I love the caring, respectful staff and the independence-supportive environment - my mom enjoys the activities (bingo, crafts, music, movies) and family involvement, and much of the building is clean and smells fresh. That said, management is inconsistent and untrustworthy: there were fire-door/repair issues handled oddly (unauthorized third-shift repairs, contractors saying they weren't paid), apparent deception during inspections, and poor responsiveness to applicants and families. I've also noticed messy halls and urine smells at times, and policies (including alcohol labeling or evictions) feel arbitrary. Great frontline care, but I can't recommend the administration - I'd give zero stars for management.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is highly polarized: several reviewers offer strong praise—calling the facility clean, kind, engaging, and highly recommendable—while others are extremely negative, raising serious concerns about management integrity, safety practices, and inconsistent operations. The standout positive themes are around staff-resident interactions, activities, and a welcoming community feel. The standout negative themes cluster around administration, maintenance/repair handling, policy enforcement, and inconsistent facility upkeep.

Care quality and staff: Many reviewers explicitly praise the staff as kind, respectful, helpful, and supportive of resident independence. Several family members say their loved ones enjoy daily activities and have good relationships with staff, and one or more reviews describe the place as an "excellent place for mom to live." However, other reviewers describe staff behavior in severely negative terms—"two-faced," "backstabbing," indifferent, or willing to label residents in ways that affect their care. This split suggests staff performance and interpersonal culture may vary across shifts or by which staff member a family or resident interacts with.

Facilities, cleanliness, and maintenance: Accounts of the physical facility are mixed. Multiple reviewers report the facility is clean, immaculate, and smells fresh. At the same time, some reviews report urine odors in halls and messy areas, indicating uneven housekeeping standards. More troubling are concrete maintenance and safety concerns: several summaries mention fire door problems, unauthorized repairs (including work performed on third shift without clear authorization), and disputes with contractors who claim they were not paid. These items point to potential facility-management breakdowns around building safety, maintenance authorization, and vendor relationships.

Activities and community life: This is a strong, consistent positive area. Reviewers repeatedly list a wide variety of activities—bingo, arts and crafts, games, parties, socials, music, and movies—and describe residents as engaged. Family involvement is highlighted as a plus, and multiple reviewers say the community atmosphere is inviting. For families prioritizing social programming and engagement, these comments indicate a robust activity calendar and opportunities for residents to be socially active.

Management, administration, and policy enforcement: This is the most problematic and frequently cited area. Several reviews allege deception by management (including misleading an inspector), pressure from owners on the facility manager, internal favoritism or "family protection," and a lack of transparency around repairs and contractor payment. Administrative responsiveness also drew criticism: examples include an over-the-phone interview with no follow-up, a resume being treated improperly as an application, and an apparent lack of upfront assessments. In at least one case, a resident was removed or "kicked out" over an alcohol policy, and reviewers criticized the labeling of that resident as alcoholic and the inconsistent application of rules. These accounts suggest systemic issues with policy clarity, consistent enforcement, and administrative communication.

Safety and regulatory concerns: Specific mentions of fire door problems, unauthorized repairs, alleged deception to an inspector, and contractor disputes raise possible regulatory and safety red flags. While some contractors claim the facility is "open and honest," other summaries describe pressure on staff and unpaid work. Prospective residents and families should view these comments as signals to ask direct, documented questions about safety inspections, maintenance protocols, contractor vetting and payment practices, and recent inspection results.

Patterns and takeaways: The reviews paint a split portrait: on one hand a warm, activity-rich community with many satisfied families and staff praised for kindness; on the other hand, serious administrative, safety, and communication issues that have led to conflict, contractor disputes, and at least one contentious resident removal. The most consistent positive theme is resident engagement and interpersonal warmth. The most consistent negative themes are management behavior, inconsistent policies/enforcement, and uneven facility upkeep.

If you are evaluating Forest View Manor, these reviews suggest you should: (1) tour the facility multiple times (including different shifts) to judge cleanliness and staff interactions, (2) ask for documentation of recent state inspections and how any cited issues were addressed, (3) clarify written policies on behavioral issues and substance use and how they are enforced, (4) inquire about maintenance procedures and contractor management/payment practices, and (5) request references from current residents’ families. The overall picture is mixed; many residents and families appear very happy with daily life and activities, but management and operational inconsistencies have caused serious dissatisfaction for others. Carefully verify the operational and safety items that matter most to your situation before deciding.
