    Compassionate dementia care with improvements

I've been very impressed - the staff (leadership like Brianna Boehm included) are professional, compassionate and attentive, providing excellent dementia/memory and rehab care with skilled medical teams and timely communication. The facility is clean, roomy and family-like with great activities (Music & Memory, outings) and staff who anticipate needs; meals and room tidiness could be improved and I did notice occasional understaffing/odors. Overall I highly recommend this place - it eased my fears about long-term care and delivers outstanding, caring support.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive with recurring praise for the quality of care, the professionalism and compassion of staff, and the facility environment. Many reviewers describe rooms as spacious and comparable to a high-end hotel, with specific mentions of fireplaces in apartments and multiple dining areas that contribute to a comfortable, homelike atmosphere. Several comments emphasize that Bethany St. Joseph Corporation meets high standards for cleanliness and maintenance, and that insurance coverage can mitigate financial burden for some residents.

Staff and clinical care are among the most consistently lauded aspects. Reviewers frequently highlight outstanding medical and rehabilitation professionals, well-trained personnel, and staff who are attentive, kind, patient, and responsive. Leadership receives specific commendation, including mention of Brianna Boehm, and reviewers note clear, timely communication from staff and management. Memory care and dementia services are repeatedly singled out as strong offerings: reviewers point to a supportive memory care program, specialized initiatives such as Music & Memory, individualized care plans, and staff who anticipate resident needs and provide reassurance and redirection when necessary.

The facility's activity and dining programs are also prominent positives. Multiple reviews praise a robust calendar of in-house activities, frequent entertainment, and offsite field trips, all of which contribute to resident engagement and quality of life. Dining impressions are mixed but several reviewers express strong approval of the food, calling it great and enjoyable; multiple dining rooms add flexibility and choice. At the same time, there is a noticeable pattern of mixed feedback on meals—some reviewers describe the food as standard fare or in need of improvement—indicating variability in dining satisfaction across residents and visits.

Notable concerns surface in a minority of reviews and should be weighed alongside the many positives. Several reviewers report issues with room tidiness or organization and a few mention occasional unpleasant odors in rooms. Staffing visibility and sufficiency arise as recurrent worries: some reviewers perceive the place as understaffed, note few nurses are seen in hallways, and report absence of a front desk or limited reception presence, which contributed to feelings of discomfort in those accounts. These operational issues contrast with other reports of excellent staffing, suggesting potential variability in staffing levels, shift coverage, or unit-specific conditions.

In summary, the reviews portray Bethany St. Joseph Corporation as a facility with strong clinical and memory-care capabilities, compassionate and well-trained staff, engaging activities, and comfortable physical accommodations. Most reviewers recommend the facility and attribute measurable progress in residents to the care provided. However, there are recurring, though less frequent, concerns about inconsistent dining quality, occasional cleanliness or odor issues, and perceived understaffing or front-desk visibility. Prospective residents or families would be well served to verify current dining offerings, staffing levels for the specific unit or shift of interest, and room condition during an in-person tour to confirm that the aspects most important to them match the generally high standards reported in many reviews.

    About Bethany St. Joseph Corporation

Bethany St. Joseph Corporation is a nonprofit that's been serving people in western Wisconsin since 1976, and you'll find its care centers in places like La Crosse, Onalaska, Holmen, West Salem, Galesville, and Westby, with the main office in La Crosse. The organization focuses on seniors and people with disabilities, offering a wide range of services from skilled nursing care and memory care to adult day centers and independent senior apartments. Care is available for short-term needs like post-hospital stays and for long-term living, with private rooms in single-story buildings so folks don't have to climb stairs, and no one shares a room if they don't want to, which people seem to appreciate for privacy and comfort. There are skilled nurses, including RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, plus therapy programs like physical, occupational, and speech therapy, which help folks recovering from things like strokes or surgery, and those needing wound or diabetic care. The places are certified by Medicare and Medicaid and have about 100 beds at some facilities, plus amenities like beauty and barber shops, outdoor gardens for residents, and recreation programs every day, so there's always something to do, with outings and special events planned, and even private spaces if people want to host gatherings for special occasions. People who live there have access to transportation for medical appointments and can reach city bus lines or get rides for off-grounds activities, and the buildings have cable and wireless internet for residents' TV and devices. The staff includes roles like CEO, Director of Human Resources, and Community Services Administrator, and the work is guided by a board of directors, with everyone focused on supporting people's needs with dignity and respect, whether the person needs independent living, assisted care, skilled nursing, or memory care that's dementia-centered and holistic. There's attention to religious and spiritual life through pastoral care, plus volunteer opportunities and programs for all ages and levels of ability, all with the goal of providing a safe, comfortable place to live and improve quality of life in the Seven Rivers Region.
