    Warm attentive dementia care; recommended

Choosing The Cottages at Lake Park was the right decision for my loved one. The staff are warm, caring, and considerate - they support families, communicate openly and respond promptly. The dementia-focused care, beautifully decorated common areas (cozy fireplace, comfy chairs) and allowance for personal memorabilia make residents comfortable; my mom lights up and is treated like a queen. I'm grateful and would highly recommend, though I've heard a few isolated concerns.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is predominantly positive, with multiple reviewers emphasizing high-quality, dementia-focused care and a compassionate staff. Several summaries describe caregivers as loving, respectful, and excellent at their roles, noting that staff members "light up residents," provide individualized attention, and support families through difficult days. Dementia care is repeatedly mentioned as a focus, and gratitude toward The Cottages at Lake Park appears repeatedly across the positive summaries.

Staff performance and interpersonal interactions emerge as the strongest theme. Reviewers describe staff as warm, welcoming, considerate, and responsive. Open communication and timely responses are highlighted, with family members reporting that staff keep them informed and make the move feel like the right choice. Some reviewers even describe the community as a great place to work, which can reflect positively on staff morale and continuity of care.

The facility and living environment are frequently praised for feeling homelike and comfortable. Specific details mentioned include a cozy fireplace, comfy chairs, mini refrigerators in rooms, and the ability for residents to decorate and display personal memorabilia. Common areas are described as beautifully decorated by staff, and tenants are characterized as friendly — together these details paint a picture of a warm, personalized, and attractive setting that contributes positively to resident well-being.

Family support and resident comfort are consistent threads: reviewers note that their loved ones appear happy, are treated with dignity ("treated you like a queen"), and that staff actively support family members. The combination of personalized rooms, homelike amenities, and attentive staff creates a recurring impression of a community that prioritizes resident comfort and family engagement.

Notwithstanding the generally favorable picture, there are clear and serious negative remarks that cannot be overlooked. At least one review explicitly reports neglect, poor care, and a safety concern and states they "cannot recommend" the community. A smaller number of summaries say the staff are "not always very helpful," indicating inconsistency in service or responsiveness for some families. These negative comments contrast with the many positive reports and suggest that experiences may vary between residents or over time.

In summary, the reviews collectively indicate a strong, positive reputation for dementia-centered care, a warm and communicative staff, and a cozy, personalized environment that many families recommend. However, the presence of at least one report alleging neglect and safety issues — along with mentions of occasional unhelpfulness — introduces a significant caveat: while many families have very positive experiences, there are isolated but serious concerns. The overall pattern is largely favorable but mixed enough that prospective families should weigh both the frequent praise and the reported negatives when making decisions.

About The Cottages at Lake Park Senior Living & Memory Care

The Cottages at Lake Park Senior Living & Memory Care sits in Marinette, Wisconsin, with other locations in Shawano and Oconto Falls, and it's run out of a main office in Shawano. The place opens from 8:00 in the morning 'til 5:00 in the evening on weekdays and stays closed on weekends. The staff includes a Hospice Care Consultant, a Director of Safety and Security, and an Executive Director, along with a full team of state-certified caregivers who are trained for assisted living and dementia care. This community accepts active seniors who need help with daily living, like bathing, dressing, and medicine, but also looks after folks who have Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia. They have a special building for memory care with 28 private suites that come with large bathrooms and calming features, while the senior living side holds 35 private suites, including studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments, all with kitchens, cable, internet, and temperature control.

The place claims to support not just the residents but their families too, offering emotional support services, hospice care, and regular visits from nurses and doctors. Residents get three meals every day, snacks, and special diets when needed, with meals cooked on-site by chefs using quality ingredients. The amenities focus on resident comfort-there's a family-friendly approach, multiple common rooms, a big dining hall with a fireplace, lounge areas, a covered porch and patios overlooking gardens and a stone waterfall by a walking trail, plenty of wildflowers and trees, and spaces to entertain guests. They even allow pets and make sure the building's accessible, with elevators and handicap-friendly design.

Residents can bring their things to make their apartments feel homey, and staff encourage decorating rooms with personal items and photos. Daily life can be pretty lively, with community activities, live entertainment, group outings, tenant clubs, spiritual services, education workshops, and health programs. There's also an exercise room, a beauty and barber shop, salon, podiatry and therapy services, and a three-season porch. Laundry and housekeeping come included, and staff help with transportation to and from appointments if needed.

Safety matters here, as there are state-of-the-art nurse call systems in each room, secured sensory access points, and round-the-clock supervised care for those at risk for wandering or confusion. Whoever chooses to live here may want peace of mind about privacy and respect, as those values guide the way the staff support residents. Management believes the key to a good home is how happy folks are-residents and staff alike-and say they've won several awards for their activities and friendly atmosphere. Several reviews mention high satisfaction, noting the helpfulness of the team and quality of planned events.

The Cottages at Lake Park offers assisted living and memory care that adapts as needs change, with up to 28 hours of services available each week (more if someone's recovering from illness). It's possible to get extra services, like in-house beauty treatments or extra therapy, for an extra cost. The community always aims to let residents keep as much independence and choice as possible, whatever physical condition or memory stage they're in, and every service-from medication management to housekeeping-has that balance in mind.
