A Nurturing Home Away From Home sits in a quiet residential community north of downtown Milwaukee, about 3.4 miles from Mequon, Wisconsin, and gives care for seniors in a small, home-like setting. The facility is a licensed Community Based Residential Facility and has 8 licensed beds in private, furnished studio rooms, and there's another similar 8-bed community, so there can be up to 16 residents overall. Residents get 24-hour non-medical care, with help for daily activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, and moving around, and trained staff members review every resident's needs to make a care plan that fits them. Medication management and healthcare services, including incontinence care, are part of the support, and the staff makes sure everyone stays safe and comfortable. Seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's have access to memory care programs, specialized activities to help their memory, and support to reduce confusion with secure areas and exit alerts, so people don't wander, and those needing hospice care can get it if they have the right waiver.
The community focuses on a person-centered approach and lets residents make their own choices, while still giving help when needed, so people can keep their independence as much as possible. Folks find private, furnished bedrooms or suites, sometimes with kitchenettes, and enjoy daily meals in a dining room with menus that can be changed for special diets like diabetes or allergies. There's free Wi-Fi, telephones, and scheduled meal services, while laundry and housekeeping are handled for everyone, and move-in help is available to make things easy. Community amenities include indoor and outdoor areas, walking paths, gardens, shared mealtimes, and rooms for relaxation or activities. Residents can join in creative arts classes, movie nights, recreation, and group outings like shopping trips, all arranged by the staff, with community-sponsored activities giving a chance to interact with others.
Transportation and parking are arranged as needed, so seniors can get to appointments or local events. The building is wheelchair accessible, and an emergency alert system is in place for safety. Every part of daily living, from meal preparation to medication management to memory care programs for those with mild cognitive impairment, is managed with attention to the person, aiming for comfort and peace of mind for both residents and families. A Nurturing Home Away From Home does not accept Medicare unless certified, but it does provide long-term care and a supportive home setting for older adults, letting them live with dignity and choice in a small, nurturing community.
