    Safe, comfortable home with activities

I feel safe and happy here - a lovely, clean, warm place in a nice neighborhood on the main bus line with private, comfortable rooms. Staff are friendly and attentive, there are many activities (barbecues, salon, mass, reunions), meals are ample though quality can be inconsistent, and the phone system needs attention.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is predominantly positive, with multiple mentions of a welcoming, safe, and comfortable environment. Reviewers consistently describe St Camillus as a clean, warm facility in a nice neighborhood with easy public transportation access (on a main bus line). The facility appears to foster a happy atmosphere among residents; words such as "safe" and "happy" recur, suggesting that many residents and visitors feel secure and well-cared-for there.

Staff and care quality emerge as strong themes. Several reviewers call out friendly, attentive staff and attentive waiters specifically, and there is explicit mention that the facility will "care if problems develop," indicating responsiveness to health or other issues. The combination of general staff attentiveness and specific notes about responsive care suggests that clinical or supervisory staff are engaged and that residents’ needs are monitored and addressed.

Activities and social life are another clear strength. Reviews note a wide variety of activities, frequent social events (barbecues, class reunions), and a bonus for residents who value religion with references to mass attendance being available. The presence of a beauty salon on-site adds to resident convenience and quality-of-life offerings. Multiple references to many activities and social events indicate an active community environment that supports social engagement and recreation.

Facilities and accommodations are described positively. Private rooms are available, and the general descriptors "clean," "warm," and "comfortable" point to a well-maintained physical environment. The facility’s location and neighborhood are described favorably, which is important for visitors and for residents who value neighborhood amenities and transit access.

Dining feedback is mixed and warrants attention. Several reviewers praise lunch ("lunch very good"), note ample portions, and compliment attentive waiters; however, other reviewers explicitly cite "poor food quality." This contradiction suggests inconsistency in dining experiences—some meals or services are highly regarded while others fall short. The mixed comments on food quality are one of the few recurring negatives and suggest that dining management or menu consistency could be a specific area for improvement.

The most concrete operational concern mentioned is the phone system, which "needs attention." This is a specific, actionable complaint distinct from more subjective comments about food. It implies potential communication issues for residents, families, or staff that could affect safety, convenience, or responsiveness.

In summary, St Camillus is depicted as a well-kept, community-oriented senior living facility with strong staff engagement, robust activities programming, convenient amenities (beauty salon, private rooms), and a pleasant neighborhood location. The primary areas to address are dining consistency/food quality and a problematic phone system. If leadership focuses on stabilizing food quality across meals and resolving phone/communication issues, the few negative points raised in the reviews could be effectively mitigated, reinforcing the many positive aspects highlighted by reviewers.

    About St Camillus

St Camillus sits at 10200 W Bluemound Rd in Milwaukee, in the Cannon Park neighborhood of Wauwatosa, and the place has been providing different kinds of senior care for over 93 years, so folks around here know it's been around and seen a lot of changes in care needs, having started as St. Camillus Health Center and now being known as Saint Camillus Campus, and as a nonprofit, it's run by a management team, including a Chief Executive Director, keeping a focus on providing quality, compassionate care for older adults, whether folks want independent living in apartment homes or need help with daily tasks, memory care, or even skilled nursing and rehab, plus they also offer home health services if someone prefers to stay in their own place but still needs help. The campus is broken into different residences: East and West Residences for independent living, South Residence for assisted living and short-term rehab or skilled nursing, and North Residence dedicated to memory care, so everyone gets care that's right for them, whether it's help with medication, meals, or just getting around safely. There's always on-site staff available and services like housekeeping, laundry, and three meals a day included, and they make sure the meals are healthy and fresh, prepared by their culinary team who serves a variety of foods, showing they pay attention to daily life, not just health needs. People who live there can use the fitness center, beauty shop, cafes and markets, and folks who need spiritual support can attend daily Mass or weekly Ecumenical services in one of the three chapels, which is important for residents who value their faith. The campus has different activity calendars for each care type and special life enrichment programs, and a staff member is dedicated to every area so residents have ways to stay engaged, whether they're in the independent apartments, memory care, or the rehab area. Air conditioning, customer parking, and restrooms are available, plus the campus makes sure to offer housing protections for LGBTQ residents, covering gender identity, orientation, and income source, which is important for peace of mind. St Camillus is open every day from 7:30 in the morning to eight in the evening, and the team also looks after other support like safety and risk management, since they're experienced in handling everything from housekeeping to claims and even HR challenges, and while the facility isn't BBB accredited, the long history shows they've been a part of the community for over a century. There are also amenities like banners and printing services on hand, so residents and staff can use those for special occasions if ever needed. The whole place runs with the idea that everyone deserves care that fits their needs, with nurses and staff always on hand, and the staff takes care of medication, helps with daily tasks, and keeps up a steady wellness program for the body and mind, and the continuum of care, covering everything from active retirement to memory loss and end-of-life care, means people can stay in one community even as their care needs change over the years, which folks often find comforting as they grow older.
