    Light-filled apartment; great amenities; caution

I'm very glad I chose this place - my new, light-filled apartment with big windows and a panoramic view is beautiful, clean, and feels like home. The secure building (underground parking), great location near shops and takeout, lovely dining room/patio, many amenities and activities, and warm, welcoming residents have made the move easy. Staff are often exceptional, caring and helpful, but there are troubling reports of turnover, unprofessional/discriminatory behavior and inconsistent memory-care supervision, and parking can be pricey. I'd highly recommend it for independent living (and many assisted residents are happy), but if you need reliable memory care, tour thoroughly and ask direct questions.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews of St. Rita Square are predominantly positive about the building, apartments, location, and many aspects of daily life, but they are heterogeneous when it comes to staffing, memory care, and consistency of services. A sizable number of reviewers praise the facility as a beautiful, well-kept, and modern community with welcoming residents and staff who provide attentive care. Many families and residents emphasize peace of mind, friendliness, and a close-knit atmosphere, calling the staff warm, helpful, and responsive. Independent living and assisted living are frequently recommended; many reviewers highlight smooth transitions between levels of care and say the community feels like home.

Care quality and staffing: A majority of reviews describe excellent, affectionate, and professional caregiving — staff who monitor health, notify families promptly of concerns, and create a supportive environment for residents. At the same time, multiple reviews flag staffing shortages, high turnover, and inconsistency in staff performance. The result is a mixed portrait: some caregivers are described as phenomenal and life-changing, while others are portrayed as unprofessional or not attentive. Several reviews explicitly raise concerns about pay, morale, and hostile conditions for staff, which reviewers tie to turnover and inconsistent resident care. One reviewer named a specific staff member (Julie Gey) as friendly and helpful, indicating that individual staff can make a strong positive impression.

Memory care and safety concerns: Memory care is a notable area of divergence. Some reviews highly recommend St. Rita Square for dementia care and praise attentive staff and good outcomes; however, recurring criticisms include programming gaps, unmet promises for customized memory-care programs, and allegations of neglect. A few reviewers reported serious safety issues — wandering, missing residents, and poor supervision — and called for investigation. These reports are significant because they suggest that while some residents in memory care are well cared for, others may experience lapses in supervision or programming that could compromise safety. Several families stated the facility is not suitable for higher-dependency residents and that some residents ultimately required relocation for adequate care.

Facilities, apartments and amenities: The physical plant receives consistent praise. Residents describe bright, spacious apartments with large windows, plenty of natural light, modern appliances, in-unit washers/dryers in some units, and lockable private bathrooms in studios. Unique apartment designs, panoramic and pleasant views, and a variety of floor plans and pricing options are repeated themes. The building is noted as historic yet updated or brand-new in parts, with gorgeous kitchens, outdoor patios, and secure underground parking. Some reviewers called out the parking fee (example given: $135/month) as a downside. Dining has improved according to several reviewers; there is an on-site trattoria and private dining options, and the dining room and food quality were described as upgraded and pleasant.

Activities, community life and location: Activity programming is ample — yoga, outings, game rooms, and a wide range of daily engagement options are frequently mentioned. Residents often describe the community as lively, welcoming, and social; many reviewers report quickly making friends. The neighborhood and walkability are seen as assets, providing metropolitan living in a historic area with easy access to grocery and takeout options. Several reviewers framed the community as offering flexibility: days can be busy or leisurely depending on resident choice.

Management, communication and unmet expectations: While many families praised management for being understanding and accommodating, others reported broken promises — for example, a promised customized memory-care program that was not delivered. There are mixed reviews about responsiveness when problems arise: some had prompt and helpful engagement from staff and administration, while others described negative behavior, discriminatory incidents, and even false unemployment claims or hostile work-environment allegations. These kinds of complaints raise concerns about leadership, oversight, and quality-control systems.

Overall recommendation and caveats: For prospective residents and families, the consensus suggests St. Rita Square is an attractive choice for independent and many assisted-living residents — offering beautiful apartments, strong community life, good dining options, and many amenities. However, the reviews also advise caution and careful due diligence for anyone seeking memory-care services or who requires higher levels of supervision. Key recommendations based on the reviews would be to: (1) ask specifically about staffing ratios and turnover, particularly in memory care; (2) request details and written commitments about any customized care programs; (3) inquire about safety protocols for wandering and supervision; (4) clarify parking costs and any other extra fees; and (5) seek references from current families of residents in the same level of care being considered. In summary, St. Rita Square receives many heartfelt endorsements for its living environment and many staff members, but there are meaningful, recurring concerns around consistency of staff performance, memory-care programming, and safety that prospective residents and families should investigate further.
