    Caring staff, institutional, medically unsafe

I placed my mother here and have mixed feelings. Staff can be warm, caring and professional, meals are good, and there are activities and therapy - but it's assisted-living only (no independent or studio units), many rooms have community baths or no windows, and the building feels institutional with occasional bad odors. Staffing is small and chronically short; I've seen unsafe handling, slow responses, gaps in healthcare knowledge and worrying failures to report incidents. Change of ownership, past abuse claims and privacy breaches add to my concern. Overall I would not recommend it for someone who needs reliable medical oversight.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Country View Assisted Living is highly mixed and polarized. A significant portion of reviewers emphasize strong, compassionate caregiving: staff are frequently described as friendly, caring, and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple accounts highlight a family-like atmosphere, staff participation in activities, and good communication with families. Several reviewers explicitly recommend the facility, noting that residents appear happy and engaged. Operational strengths cited include three meals daily that are described as nutritious and enjoyable, available transportation to appointments, on-call LPN/RN coverage, and collaboration with therapists for rehabilitative needs. There are also reports of a newer building and nicely sized rooms in parts of the facility, with amenities such as elevators and a whirlpool tub.

However, these positive impressions coexist with repeated and sometimes serious complaints. The most concerning themes are safety, staffing, and management issues. Multiple reviewers allege unsafe resident handling (for example, staff not using gait belts), at least one account of a resident being left on the floor, and claims that injuries or abuse were not properly reported. There is mention of a past abuse claim (about six years prior) and additional allegations suggesting a tolerance for mistreatment or poor incident reporting. Related to safety, reviewers also say the facility experiences high staff turnover and chronic understaffing; families describe bedside care gaps and occasions where residents were ignored. These issues raise potential concerns about consistent care quality and regulatory compliance.

Management and ownership generate mixed impressions as well. Some reviewers praise administration and house managers for being personable and supportive; others criticize management as unprofessional, prioritizing finances over resident welfare, or engaging in unfair labor practices and possible review manipulation. A change in ownership to Platinum Communities is reported by several reviewers, with at least some noting new investments in staff education and training and expanded daily activities — suggesting an attempt to address past problems. Yet other reviews explicitly describe breaches of confidentiality (disclosing workers' personal information), inappropriate staff attire (flip-flops), and dismissive or inattentive behavior during tours or incidents involving distressed residents.

Facility physical characteristics and accommodations are a mixed bag in the reviews. Some parts of Country View are described as newer with comfortable rooms and a variety of layouts. Other comments say the building resembles a former school, has an institutional or depressing atmosphere, and suffers from cleanliness or odor problems in places. Important practical limitations are mentioned: there are reportedly no independent living (IL) or studio units, some rooms have community bathrooms, and there are limited private rooms/baths — factors that could make the facility unsuitable for families seeking IL options or private accommodations. On a positive note, reviewers mention features such as elevators, whirlpool tubs, and an ability to accommodate pets in some cases.

Activities and dining receive generally favorable remarks from many reviewers, who note a lively schedule (bingo, music, crafts, bowling, dancing, field trips, holiday events) and active staff involvement. But consistency appears to vary: while some families report robust, meaningful programming and staff-led engagement, others describe residents sitting idle with very limited activities. Dining is more often praised than criticized: multiple reviewers say the food is good and appears nutritious.

In summary, Country View Assisted Living presents a mixture of strengths and significant concerns. Strengths include many reports of compassionate, family-like staff, active programming, decent meals, and therapy and nursing support. Significant red flags from other reviews include allegations of unsafe care practices, failure to report incidents or abuse, chronic understaffing and turnover, management inconsistency, cleanliness/odor issues, and limited living options for those seeking independent units or private bathrooms. The reviews suggest wide variability in resident experience that may depend on unit, staff on duty, and changes in ownership or management.

For families evaluating Country View, the most responsible conclusion is that the facility has demonstrated both commendable caregiving and troubling lapses. Prospective families should verify current staffing levels and turnover rates, ask for documentation of staff training and abuse/incident reporting policies, inquire about nurse coverage and emergency response procedures (gait-belt use, fall protocols), tour multiple wings at different times of day to assess cleanliness and activity levels, and confirm room/bathroom configurations if private accommodations are needed. Given the presence of serious allegations in some reviews alongside many positive accounts, firsthand investigation and targeted questions to administration are essential to determine whether the facility currently provides the consistent quality and safety a particular loved one requires.
