    Caring staff at beautiful facility

I toured and moved my mom in and overall I'm pleased: the staff are caring, responsive and helped us through health declines and end-of-life needs, the facility is gorgeous, extremely clean, with bright, spacious rooms and lovely grounds. There are lots of activities and generally good meals, but dining logistics and food quality can be uneven, communication/orientation could be clearer, and rent is on the high side. Despite some staff variability, I feel my loved one is in good hands and would recommend.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across reviews is predominantly positive, with repeated emphasis on the quality and compassion of the staff, the cleanliness and appearance of the facility, and an active, engaging resident life. Most reviewers highlight how staff members are friendly, helpful and attentive — examples include frequent periodic check-ins, proactive staff who will come get residents for activities, assistance during health decline, rapid room readiness and paperwork completion at move-in, and thoughtful end-of-life care. Many comments describe staff behavior as courteous, energetic and willing to go above and beyond, and several family members expressed confidence and relief in choosing this community.

The facility itself receives strong praise for being clean, bright, and well maintained. Multiple reviewers described it as beautifully decorated with nice grounds and outdoor spaces, single-floor convenience, and a central lobby/cafeteria layout that makes the community feel home-like. Apartments and rooms are frequently described as spacious and bright, with personal decor encouraged. Daily room cleaning and a high standard of housekeeping are noted repeatedly. The availability of continuing care and the ability for couples to stay together in the same room were important positive points for families considering long-term needs.

Activity programming and social life are another clear strength. Reviews mention a wide variety of activities — bingo, exercise classes, and other events — and staff encouragement for resident participation. Many residents feel engaged and included; some reviews specifically praise how staff invite or fetch residents to ensure they attend. During the pandemic, activities persisted and staff worked hard to keep residents engaged, a detail several reviewers appreciated.

Dining is a mixed picture. A number of reviewers praise the food, saying residents "love the food," enjoy variety including fruits and vegetables, and find meals healthy and plentiful. Conversely, others criticize the dining model and food quality: several mention cafeteria-style service, standing in line, longer waits for less-mobile residents, and describe the food as "cheap" or "not the best." Thus, while portions and variety are often adequate, service logistics and perceived quality vary among reviewers.

Communication and onboarding present recurring concerns. Some reviewers reported confusion over quarantine durations (7 vs 14 days) and described upsetting changes in how updates were communicated. The orientation and move-in process is praised by many for being smooth and welcoming, but other comments note that the initial orientation could be better, and that there is no central community bulletin board for activities. A small but notable number of reviews warn that families may need to be proactive advocates and stay on top of care details; a few expressed a negative impression or placement concerns, suggesting that oversight may be needed in some cases.

Cost and staffing variability are additional themes. A few reviewers find rent expensive and question value, and some express reservations about recommending the community for that reason. While most feedback about staff is positive, reviewers occasionally note variability in staff performance — "some staff better than others" — and mention demographic details (e.g., younger staff with tattoos) as observations rather than direct complaints.

In summary, The Residence at Oshkosh is widely regarded as a clean, attractive community with compassionate and responsive staff, ample activities, and a generally comfortable, home-like environment. Areas to watch are communication consistency, certain aspects of meal service logistics and food quality, the onboarding/orientation process, and cost. Families considering this community should weigh the strong caregiving and activity program against these operational concerns, and be prepared to ask detailed questions about dining accommodations for less-mobile residents, orientation procedures, and how the community handles communication during health events or quarantine situations. Overall, the pattern of reviews suggests many satisfied residents and families, with some variability that warrants direct discussion during tours and move-in planning.

    About The Residence at Oshkosh

The Residence at Oshkosh sits at 1110 W Murdock Ave near the Fox River in Oshkosh, WI, and you'll find a whole mix of options there, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care for Alzheimer's and other dementias, and even Skilled Nursing, so adults with changing medical needs can often stay right where they are. The community runs like a small neighborhood with bright, roomy apartments folks can decorate to feel at home, and there are both studio deluxe and standard studio floor plans, starting at $4,795 and $4,295. Meals come from professional chefs in a dining room that serves all day, and special diets like low sodium, sugar-free, kosher, and even vegan get attention, so residents with allergies or diabetes have choices they can enjoy.

There's a whole list of amenities to keep daily life comfortable-housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, scheduled and on-demand transportation if you need to get to appointments or just want to shop, plus you've got parking if you still drive. Both indoor and outdoor spaces let people socialize, walk, garden, or relax on patios or in an enclosed courtyard. You'll find a beauty salon and barber shop, devotional services for different faiths, a family meditation room, a library, computer lounge, arts and crafts area, a movie theater, TV lounges, and organized activities like movie nights, game nights, and trips, so there's usually something going on if you want to join in. They offer social programs, health talks, and resident-run clubs, with fitness and wellness activities on the weekly calendar.

For those who need a bit more help, caregivers provide assistance with bathing, dressing, transfers, and medication management, designed to fit what each person actually needs, day or night, and with a 24-hour call system in place so help isn't far if there's trouble. The place is wheelchair-friendly and openly welcomes folks with Alzheimer's, terminal diagnoses, and frail elders, giving peace of mind that someone's around who's trained for memory care, dementia, and end-of-life comfort. There are specialist therapies like light therapy, reminiscence activities, plus hospice and a plan for aging in place if someone's needs change. Spiritual care and chaplain visits happen on-site, and families can talk through planning for the future with guides and checklists, even resources about cremation or memorial needs, and there's a small shop for urns and keepsakes if someone wants it. Utilities like cable TV and internet can be included, and there's shared computer access as well as telephones in rooms.

Though there isn't a lot of marketing shine-just facts backed up by real people-a 4.3 average from 17 reviews points to a generally positive experience. The facility is state licensed and goes through regular checks. Hours run every day, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and the structure itself is a Community Based Residential Facility (CBRF) set up for nine or more people at a time. SKilled clinical staff work alongside the support staff, so both long-term and transitional care needs can be met onsite. The setting is relaxed and friendly, with an eye toward giving each person a good amount of independence but real support when it matters. Tours help families see rooms, dining, and how daily life feels, but the sense is that most folks like the dedicated staff, enjoy plenty of freedom, and find there's enough going on both inside and out to stay engaged as they age.
