    Top-notch therapy and warm staff

I had a very positive stay - the therapy team is top-notch and helped me regain strength, and the staff treated me like family with warm, attentive 24/7 care. The facility is very clean, homey, safe (strong COVID precautions), and offers engaging activities; I'd recommend it - note occasional staffing/administrative turnover and some small, darker rooms.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment: Reviews for Edenbrook Platteville are strongly mixed but lean positive in key areas. The most consistent praise centers on the rehabilitation and therapy program, plus an overarching appreciation for many staff members who are described as caring, devoted, and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple reviewers called the therapy department 'top-notch' or 'the best in the area,' citing successful outcomes getting people back home and strong recovery support for surgeries and complex needs such as IV therapy and bariatric recovery. At the same time, several serious concerns appear repeatedly: a state survey reported 19 deficiencies, staff turnover and leadership changes are noted, and a number of reviewers reported instances of neglect, delays in assistance, and safety issues such as falls.

Care quality and clinical services: The facility is frequently recommended for short-term rehab stays and post-operative recovery; therapy outcomes are described as very effective and targeted toward returning residents home. Many reviews highlight knowledgeable therapists, close nursing monitoring (in numerous accounts), and the facility's ability to handle complex medical needs. Conversely, other reviews describe inconsistent clinical follow-through: poor communication between therapy and physicians in some cases, unclear therapy details for family members, and incidents where some nurses or aides were inattentive. Importantly, several reports directly link delayed assistance to falls and feelings of neglect, which is a major safety concern that families should investigate further.

Staff and culture: A dominant positive theme is staff dedication — reviewers repeatedly describe caregivers as warm, compassionate, family-like, and willing to go the extra mile. Staff teamwork, named staff who were appreciated, and a sense of community are recurring compliments. The facility also receives praise as an employer (competitive wages, flexible hours) which can contribute to a positive culture. Offsetting these strengths are mentions of staff turnover, an administrator leaving, and instances of favoritism or staff idling and socializing while residents waited for help. There are also polarized experiences with administration: some reviewers praise engaged leadership and social work that assisted with discharge planning, while others found administrators indifferent or unresponsive (including alarms), creating an unsafe impression.

Facilities, cleanliness, and layout: The physical plant is generally praised as modern, clean, and well-maintained. Common areas are described as bright and open, with a pleasant sunroom and outdoor grounds for residents. Reviewers appreciate the large activities room and wide facility layout suited to rehab programs. A recurring caveat is that resident rooms themselves are sometimes small and dark — this contrast between attractive communal spaces and modest private rooms should be noted by prospective residents and families. Attention to detail and cleanliness is a frequently mentioned positive, including during COVID-19.

Dining and activities: Activities are a clear strength for many reviewers — a varied calendar of bingo, music, arts and crafts, monthly outings, holiday events, and outdoor opportunities earns strong praise. These programs contribute to residents feeling at home and engaged. Dining evaluations are mixed: while numerous reviewers report excellent meals and a resident who 'likes the food,' others call the food fair or institutional. This variability suggests that dining experiences may differ by unit, meal, or individual expectation.

Safety, regulation, and management concerns: The presence of 19 deficiencies on a state survey is a concrete red flag and appears alongside anecdotal reports of neglect, unresponsive alarms, and several falls. Leadership transition (administrator leaving and a new social worker) may explain some inconsistencies and could reflect a period of adjustment. Some reviewers praised the social worker and admissions director for strong discharge planning and welcoming admissions, while others reported indifferent management. Prospective families should ask the facility about the nature of the state survey deficiencies, corrective actions taken, staff-to-resident ratios, fall-prevention protocols, and alarm responsiveness.

Patterns and reconciliation of conflicting reports: Many of the reviews are effusive in praise of staff, therapy, and the overall atmosphere; however, the negative reports are significant and specific (falls, neglect, 19 deficiencies). This pattern suggests variability in experience that could be influenced by staffing levels at particular shifts, turnover and leadership changes over time, or unit-specific differences. In short, the facility appears to offer excellent rehabilitation services and many compassionate staff, but there is evidence of systemic issues that have led to serious complaints for some families.

Bottom-line guidance: Edenbrook Platteville is likely a strong option for people seeking intensive short-term rehabilitation and comprehensive therapy, especially when the therapy team is engaged. It offers a clean, modern environment and a robust activities program that many residents and families value. However, because of reported staff turnover, a significant state survey with 19 deficiencies, and multiple reports of delayed help and falls, families should perform due diligence: review the most recent state inspection and remediation plan, ask about current staffing levels and turnover, request information on fall-prevention and alarm-response metrics, and tour resident rooms to assess light and size. Doing so will help balance the facility’s clear strengths against the important safety and management concerns documented by several reviewers.

    About Edenbrook Platteville

Edenbrook Platteville is a skilled nursing facility over on North Water Street that's always open, and people know it for a focus on post-acute care and a family-like setting where the staff stays around the clock and helps with long-term and short-term needs, using a team that connects all the care together and gives physical, occupational, speech, and IV therapies right in-house, so whether a person's recovering from a surgery or a stroke or needs help with cardiac, respiratory, or orthopedic rehab, they'll find the right therapies offered daily. The facility does wound care, works with renal health, and has memory care and hospice options as well, and there are respite care services for families who need a short-term solution. Rooms here are private, with cable TV, Wi-Fi, phones, and laundry, and sometimes meals come straight to the room, planned by a registered dietitian, with menus people can change to fit what they like or need, and those wanting a bit of fresh air can relax in outdoor patios while others might like gathering in bright, large living or rehab areas that make it easy to move about, which helps those who find walking a challenge. People needing primary, specialty, medical, dental, or nursing care can get help here, and discharge planning and equipment support come through the social services. Some staff speak other languages along with English, making it easier for more people to get care. The community uses things like complimentary iPads and virtual reality to keep folks connected with family and entertained, and there's a real effort to provide a safe, upbeat, and comfortable place where residents and staff treat each other like family, especially since some people here need help with dementia or Alzheimer's and benefit from a welcoming and understanding environment. Rehabilitation covers both short-term needs and longer stays, and the facility has earned a reputation for good care and resident satisfaction, using a holistic method that tries to see all parts of a person, not just medical needs, and focuses on dignity, recovery, and a sense of home for everyone.
