    Compassionate staff, outstanding rehab, affordable

I placed my mom at Rocky Knoll and overall I'm very pleased: the staff are compassionate, hardworking, and responsive, rehab/PT/OT is outstanding, and activities plus homemade meals keep residents engaged. Rooms are clean, remodeled, nicely sized with great views and outdoor areas, it's affordable (about $350/week) and truly rehab/recovery-focused. Minor issues: some people reported weird or racist vibes, there were a few bed/room setup problems and no air conditioning at times. Despite that, my mom is happy and thriving - I highly recommend Rocky Knoll.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these review summaries for Rocky Knoll Health Care Center is strongly positive, with the greatest strengths centered on staff quality, cleanliness, rehabilitation services, and a combination of modern amenities and innovative programming. Multiple reviewers highlighted caring, friendly, professional, and compassionate staff, including CNAs, nurses, and social work, and several specifically praised the facility’s communication with families. The facility is repeatedly described as clean and well maintained, with remodeled, large rooms that feature windows, wall-mounted TVs, and attractive views of a rural, wooded setting. Reviewers also noted the availability of hospice services, adequate parking, and a pleasant community atmosphere.

Care quality and staffing stand out as primary positives. Many reviewers emphasized responsive, quick-to-act nursing and exceptional rehab services (outstanding PT/OT) and described the environment as recovery- and rehab-focused. Comments such as staff “going the extra mile,” compassionate social work, and helpful CNAs give a clear impression that clinical and supportive care are reliable and resident-centered. Several users also said their loved ones were happy and thriving rather than feeling like they were in a typical nursing home.

Facilities, setting, and amenities receive frequent praise. The building is noted as remodeled with large, comfortable rooms and attractive outdoor areas. The rural location with woods and beautiful views was a repeated plus. On-site conveniences — salon, café, shop — and barrier-free exercise opportunities were appreciated. Innovative partnerships and programming (notably the VibeTech collaboration and recognition as Innovator of the Year 2020) suggest the facility embraces new therapeutic and wellness technologies, which some reviewers specifically called out as beneficial and forward-looking.

Dining and activities show mixed but generally positive feedback. Many reviewers mentioned nutrition-planned or homemade meals, with several saying the food was very good and satisfying. A few reviewers, however, explicitly said they were not fond of the food, and others noted portion sizes could be too large. Activities are described as plentiful and engaging — music, card games, and other daily programming — though a couple of summaries say activities are “being tried,” which may indicate programs are evolving or vary in consistency. The general tone concerning social life is upbeat, with references to a friendly, bubbly atmosphere and ample engagement throughout the day.

Management, communication, and innovation are portrayed favorably in most accounts. Families reported up-to-date communication from staff and praised administration and management; some reviewers described the administration as “incredible.” The facility’s work with VibeTech and its award indicate a prioritization of novel approaches to resident mobility and activity, which complements comments about barrier-free exercise and being first-to-experience new programs. Housekeeping and maintenance are consistently described as strong, supporting the overall impression of a well-run site.

Notable concerns and outliers should be acknowledged. While the majority of comments are positive, there are several negative points that recur or are significant. A few reviewers reported racist or otherwise “weird” vibes, an issue that would require investigation and sensitivity from leadership. One reviewer stated there was no air conditioning and explicitly labeled their experience the “worst nursing experience,” representing a serious negative outlier compared with the overall trend; these singular but severe criticisms should not be ignored. Practical issues such as a bed-arrangement problem (only one bed instead of two) and proximity to a racetrack were mentioned and may affect certain residents’ preferences. Finally, the mixed feedback on meal quality and the remark that activities are still developing suggest areas for consistency improvements.

In summary, Rocky Knoll Health Care Center is portrayed in these reviews as a clean, well-appointed facility with strong, compassionate staffing, excellent rehab services, and active adoption of innovative therapy and activity programs. It scores highly on communication, maintenance, amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere. Prospective residents and families should be aware of the few negative reports — particularly the serious outlier about a very poor nursing experience and comments about racist vibes and lack of air conditioning — and may want to inquire about those specific concerns, meal options, and room/bed arrangements when evaluating placement. Overall, the predominant pattern is positive and suggests Rocky Knoll is a rehab- and recovery-focused center with robust staffing, active programming, and modern amenities that many families highly recommend.

About Rocky Knoll Health Care Center

Rocky Knoll Health Care Center sits on a big 62-acre campus in the rural area of Sheboygan County where you'll find trees, paved walking paths, bike trails, and several courtyards. The facility has 149 beds and offers single rooms for privacy, making it a place where many folks can find the care they need yet still have space to themselves, and if someone wants to enjoy fresh air, there are wheelchair-accessible gardens, a sun shelter outside, and plenty of room for walking or biking.

Rocky Knoll provides skilled nursing care around the clock for seniors who need help with health needs or daily living because of a physical or mental condition, and there's trained staff like Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants alongside a whole team with roles such as a Medical Director, Area Nurse Managers, Social Workers, a Director of Dining, and more, showing that the place is very organized with many staff handling specialized jobs. The care here is resident-centered, which means the staff tries to get to know each person and focuses on what is most helpful or meaningful to them, and there are several options for short-term rehab, long-term care, assisted living, memory care, independent living, and even home care.

Therapies like physical, occupational, and speech therapy are available, and the team uses state-of-the-art rehab equipment for those who are recovering or trying to regain strength or skills, and people who need more support can get comprehensive rehab programs or individualized long-term care plans made just for them. Rocky Knoll has five different nursing units to fit different needs, like memory care or other specialized help, and services are set up for both short stays to recover or longer stays for those who plan to make the center home.

Around the facility, amenities are meant to support comfort and social life, with spaces both indoors and outside for gathering, relaxing, or taking part in activities, including lounges for entertainment and spiritual services, a general store, and the Rock Cafe where residents can eat nutritious meals. They also have a beauty salon and barbershop, a Veteran Hall of Honor, a gift shop, and spaces for memorial services, so people have community traditions and comforts close by. Social activities focus on keeping everyone engaged, and the center carries a certification in the Music & Memory program, which is good for those who enjoy personalized music and helps folks with memory problems, while aroma therapy is one of the unique things offered here for relaxation.

The staff is known for being kind and helpful, and there's a Life Enrichment Director making sure there are activities that keep everyone's mind, body, and social needs active. Meal and dining services pay attention to quality and nutrition, led by a Registered Dietician, and families or residents can take advantage of transportation services if they want to get out or need help going somewhere. The campus stays clean and organized with help from environment and building service coordinators, and there's a strong focus on keeping residents safe, healthy, and feeling at home, whether their stay is for a few weeks or for the long term. With a friendly atmosphere and a set-up that supports both privacy and community, Rocky Knoll tries hard to make sure everyone gets what they need with dignity and care.
