    Caring staff but inconsistent care

I stayed involved with my mom's care and overall found a small, clean, home-like facility with very caring, professional and compassionate staff who made her last weeks comfortable and helped with a difficult transfer after her stroke. The place is family-oriented and newish, with a nice back-window farm view, spa tub, wanderguard system, and better pricing than alternatives. That said, I witnessed troubling lapses - some caregivers were impatient, rude or lacked skill for total-care needs, supervision seemed uneven, and the facility felt a bit unorganized with limited activities and no on-site physicians. Buildings/lay-out can be confusing (two connected wings), but staff generally clarified details and provided supportive, sincere care. I'm grateful for the comfort they gave my mom, but I'd advise caution depending on the level of care required.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment for High Point Residence Port Washington is mixed but leans positive with important caveats. A recurring strength in the reviews is the staff: many reviewers describe staff as helpful, caring, understanding and welcoming. Multiple families noted that the staff provided clear communication, emotional support, and practical assistance during difficult transitions, which gave them confidence and a sense of security. Specific examples include staff accommodating special needs (bringing in a bed, coordinating transfers) and helping make a resident's last weeks comfortable. Several reviews emphasize a home-like, family-oriented atmosphere in a small, clean facility where residents generally appear content.

Facility attributes receive generally favorable mentions, including newer/brand-new elements, a one-floor layout in some areas, a wanderguard safety system, a spa tub, and a pleasant back-window farm field view. The small scale and home-like setting are highlighted as positives by many families who appreciated the personalized attention and quiet environment. Some reviewers also reported competitive or better pricing compared with alternatives, while others cited high price — indicating perceptions of value vary by family expectations and needs.

However, there are significant and recurring concerns. A number of reviewers report inconsistent caregiver behavior: while many call staff wonderful and compassionate, others describe caregivers as disrespectful, impatient, rude or lacking necessary skills, particularly for residents who need total or high-dependency care. At least one reviewer used very strong language ('nightmare') to describe their experience. Reports of inadequate supervision and organizational shortcomings (described as "a little unorganized") suggest variability in operational standards and oversight. These issues point to inconsistent quality of care depending on staffing, shift, or individual caregiver.

Service offerings and medical support are another area of mixed feedback. Several reviewers noted the facility offers limited activities and that there are no physicians who come regularly to the building. For residents with greater medical needs, the absence of on-site physician visits and limited programming could be a drawback. The small size and home-like model, which many families praise, also likely limit the range of clinical services available compared with larger facilities. One reviewer referenced a planned transfer to another facility after their mother suffered a stroke, illustrating that families may need to arrange higher-level care elsewhere in some cases.

Physical layout and logistics elicit both praise and concern. Some appreciated the one-floor layout for accessibility, while others found the campus confusing, describing two buildings connected by hallways and expressing concerns about distance from friends and activities. Shared rooms were mentioned, which can raise privacy issues for some families. On the positive side, staff willingness to accommodate specific needs during moves and transitions (bringing beds, transfer planning) was noted and appreciated.

In summary, High Point Residence Port Washington attracts families seeking a smaller, home-like setting with compassionate staff and attentive transitional support. Many reviewers report excellent, comforting care and a clean, pleasant environment. However, prospective residents and families should be cautious: there are clear reports of inconsistent caregiver behavior, occasional lack of supervision, limited activity and medical services, and organizational issues. Those considering this community should verify staff training and supervision practices, evaluate whether on-site medical services meet their needs, and tour the physical layout to confirm it matches expectations regarding privacy, accessibility and proximity to social supports.
