    Good staff but unsafe management

I appreciated the family picnic and many kind, attentive employees - my mom settled in quickly, made friends, and some staff treated her lovingly. That said, I witnessed dangerous staffing shortages, rude and untrustworthy behavior from certain nurses/management, and I'm concerned about medication handling and inconsistent post-surgery care. I'm grateful to the overworked CNAs, but overall I cannot recommend this facility.

    Summary review

Overview and overall sentiment: The reviews for Evergreen Health Services are strongly mixed, with a clear polarization between highly positive personal experiences and serious, alarming complaints. Multiple reviewers praise the facility for providing compassionate, attentive care, social connection, and a welcoming atmosphere for some residents. At the same time, several reviews raise grave concerns about safety, staffing levels, professionalism, and even abusive or neglectful behavior. Taken together, the pattern is one of inconsistent care quality: some residents and families report gratitude and strong bonds with staff and other residents, while others report harmful lapses in care and unprofessional conduct.

Care quality and clinical safety: Positive reviews describe residents who settled in quickly, felt well taken care of, and benefited from attentive staff who formed meaningful relationships with them. These accounts emphasize reliable daily care, emotional support, and a sense that staff were responsive and kind. Conversely, negative reviews point to clinical and safety issues that are more than minor inconveniences: allegations include medication mishandling and improper disposal, neglect, and unsafe or inhumane treatment. There is also specific mention of negative outcomes following surgery, suggesting some reviewers experienced inadequate post-operative care. These safety-related complaints are serious and represent clear red flags that warrant direct inquiry and verification by prospective residents and families.

Staff behavior and management: Staff interactions are a central theme and the main source of the contrasting impressions. On the positive side, many employees are described as nice, kind, and capable of forming familial bonds with residents (phrases like "adopted daughters," "forever friends," and "dear ladies" appear in the reviews). On the negative side, reviewers single out rude behavior from nursing staff and management. The Director of Nursing (DON) is specifically described as rude, and two nurses are named directly (Jennifier and shelly) as being rude. Other critiques describe aides and nurses as unfriendly, dishonest, or untrustworthy. There are also allegations of abusive behavior by staff toward residents. This mix of praise and serious criticism implies significant variability across individual caregivers and potential problems in supervision, training, or culture.

Staffing levels and workload: A recurring and concrete concern is understaffing. Several reviews explicitly describe overworked CNAs and a high patient-to-staff ratio, calling staffing levels "dangerous." High workload and inadequate staffing can plausibly contribute to both diminished quality of care and increased incidence of errors, including medication problems and neglect. These complaints suggest systemic operational issues rather than isolated interpersonal conflicts, and they are among the most actionable items for families to investigate further (e.g., asking administration about staffing ratios, CNA schedules, and turnover rates).

Social environment, activities, and nonclinical strengths: Positive experiences emphasize a warm, community-oriented environment for many residents. Multiple reviewers mention social connections, adoption of residents into close-knit bonds, and events like a family picnic. These items indicate that Evergreen Health Services can and does foster meaningful social opportunities and that some employees excel at creating a supportive atmosphere. For many prospective residents who value social engagement, these aspects are important strengths.

Patterns, recommendations, and cautionary notes: The overall pattern is one of inconsistency: some residents and families experience compassionate, high-quality care and strong social integration, while others experience rudeness, neglect, medication issues, and even alleged abuse. The presence of both uplifting testimonials and severe complaints means prospective residents should perform targeted due diligence. Recommended follow-up steps include: visiting the facility in person multiple times (during different shifts), asking to speak with the DON and other leadership about staffing ratios and incident reporting, requesting records or policies on medication handling and disposal, inquiring about staff training and turnover, and seeking references from current residents or families. Due to the specific and serious nature of some complaints (medication mishandling, neglect, abusive behavior), it would also be prudent for families to check state inspection reports, complaint histories, and any regulatory actions.

Conclusion: Evergreen Health Services appears capable of providing excellent, compassionate care for some residents, with notable strengths in social programming and staff-resident relationships. However, the repeated and specific negative reports — particularly around staffing shortages, rude or abusive behavior by named staff, medication mishandling, and neglect — are significant and must be investigated. The reviews indicate that experiences can vary widely depending on which staff members are involved and possibly on staffing levels at given times. Families and prospective residents should weigh the positive personal accounts against the serious safety and management concerns, and pursue careful, documented inquiries before making placement decisions.
