    Lovely facility, occasional staffing problems

I live here and overall it's a lovely, well-maintained place - beautiful grounds, fresh foyer flowers, spacious homey rooms with river views, private baths and kitchenettes, a great library and modern workout facilities. The food is excellent and varied, dining is intimate, and there are plentiful activities year-round (arts & crafts, games, musical guests); many staff are caring and go above and beyond. My main concerns are intermittent lack of compassion from night caregivers, delayed call-button responses and occasional staff on phones or with negative attitudes - worth knowing, but I still recommend it with that caveat.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews is largely positive about the facility's physical environment, dining, activities, and many individual staff members, but there are clear and recurring concerns about consistency of care — particularly around response times and night staffing.

Facilities and atmosphere: Multiple reviewers emphasize that Point Manor presents very well. The grounds are described as well-tended and the foyer decorated with fresh flowers, contributing to a welcoming curb appeal and interior. Rooms are characterized as spacious, homey and clean; many include private bathrooms and kitchenettes and some have attractive river views. The main dining room is described as intimate and pleasant, and the overall facility is repeatedly called well-maintained and a great place to retire. There are modern amenities such as workout facilities with instructors and an extensive library supported by donations, which supports both physical and intellectual engagement for residents.

Dining and food service: Dining is a consistently praised area. Reviewers note delicious food, a thoughtful menu offering variety and healthy options, and several people highlight the quality of meals as a major plus. The intimate dining setting and menu variety are mentioned multiple times, and a number of reviewers go as far as to call the food 'amazing' and recommend the community on that basis.

Activities and social life: Social programming appears robust. Reviews point to ample year-round activities including arts and crafts, games (bingo, Apples to Apples), musical guests, and clearly organized social events and family get-togethers. This range of programming supports an active social environment and is frequently cited as contributing to resident happiness and contentment.

Staff and care quality: This is the most mixed area. A substantial number of reviews praise staff as caring, helpful, hardworking, and willing to go above and beyond; these reviewers report exceptional care and even improvements over time. At the same time, there are multiple, specific complaints about staff behavior and responsiveness: delayed responses to call buttons, staff being seen on their phones while on shift, and negative attitudes from certain staff members. Night caregivers are singled out in some reviews as lacking compassion. These contrasting impressions create a pattern of inconsistent care — strong, compassionate service from many employees but notable lapses from others, particularly at night or during certain shifts.

Concerns and patterns: The most significant and repeated concerns are (1) delayed call‑button responses, (2) staff phone use while on duty, and (3) inconsistent compassion and attitude among team members — with several reviewers explicitly advising against the facility on that basis. While some reviews say care has improved, the recurrence of these issues suggests staffing consistency, training, supervision, or scheduling may be areas needing attention. The phrase "pictures speak for themselves" used by a reviewer indicates at least one strongly negative perception that contrasts with the many positive comments about appearance.

Recommendation and takeaways: For prospective residents and families, Point Manor appears to offer strong amenities, attractive grounds and rooms, excellent dining, and a lively activity schedule. Many residents and families report very positive experiences with staff and overall care. However, because concerns about delayed responses and uneven staff compassion — especially at night — appear multiple times, visitors should explicitly evaluate these areas during a tour. Suggested due diligence: visit during different times (including evenings/nights if possible), ask about night staffing and response-time metrics, request references from current residents/families, and inquire about staff training and supervision policies. Addressing these consistency issues could align the overall experience more uniformly with the many positives reported.

    About Point Manor Assisted Living

Point Manor Assisted Living sits on Sherman Avenue in Stevens Point, right beside the river and close to walking trails, and you'll find they've got separate housing choices for folks who want independent living, senior apartments, condos, and townhomes, and there's also assisted living, skilled nursing, home health, brain injury rehab, and hospice care on the property, so you see they're set up for many different needs as people age. Housing units offer things like private bedrooms or beds, sometimes with kitchenettes, and there's safety gear like sprinkler systems, emergency call systems, and accommodations for people with mobility problems, with staff ready to help if anyone needs transferring or support at any hour. They've got memory care communities with locked doors and alerts at the exits, and staff are trained to work with Alzheimer's and other dementias, with daily activities, secure outdoor areas, and special programs to help folks keep busy and comfortable. Meals are served to take the load off cooking, and there's housekeeping, laundry, and even room service for those who need extra help.

The care team is always there, and they pay close attention to things like diabetes, insulin, wounds, and medicine, offering things like daily weights, glucose checks, nebulizer treatments, IV antibiotics and fluids, PICC management, pharmacy access, and infection control isolation if required, and they have therapy services in house, including physical, occupational, and speech therapy for those who need to recover strength or live with certain health changes. If someone needs lab work, bladder ultrasounds, or help with medications, they're set up for it without needing to go elsewhere, and there's a social service director and discharge planning for when care needs change. Amenities include a dining room, chapel, activity rooms, a hair salon, guest parking, Wi-Fi, cable TV, a calendar of daily events, a library, and a gym, and they have maintenance staff to look after the building and outside areas, and private areas for quiet time or family visits.

Residents will find activities for arts and crafts, education, fitness, and health, as well as companion care and transportation to appointments or outings, and the place tries to make folks feel at home with gardens, pleasant river views, and a welcoming environment. Specialized programs adjust care to fit each person, and a consultation helps figure out what's right in terms of independent, assisted, or skilled nursing care, with guidance and clear explanations for families about the differences. The skilled nursing building shares the property with River View Lodge Assisted Living, and they've been rated deficiency free by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, with past resident surveys showing folks felt the care was high quality. From memory care and physical therapy to social activities and brain injury rehab, Point Manor Assisted Living provides a place where seniors can keep their independence as long as possible while having help nearby, all in a setting that focuses on safety and comfort.
