    Homey, clean, attentive assisted living

I placed my mom at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living and I'm very pleased - the staff are consistently friendly, caring and proactive, medications and meals arrive on time, and the large, clean apartment-style rooms feel homey. The facility is well-kept with lots of common space, daily activities, outings, an on-site salon and chapel, and management clearly supports attentive, professional care; I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Prairie Ridge Assisted Living presents as an apartment-style assisted-living community with a number of tangible strengths. The physical plant is described as clean, well-maintained, and bright, with large rooms or apartments, wide halls, and multiple common areas that support visitation and socializing. On-site amenities include an exercise area, chapel, and a hair salon (fee-based), and the location is noted as accessible. Families and visitors consistently praise an organized facility appearance and overall comfortable, home-like atmosphere.

Care and staffing are recurring positive themes. Many accounts highlight friendly, family-oriented and attentive caregiving staff, a relatively low staff-to-resident ratio, and proactive day-to-day care tasks such as on-time medication administration and meal delivery. Staff are often described as caring, supportive, and responsive; several comments reference ongoing staff education and management efforts to improve clinical practices. Where the provider has transitioned to PRA Living management, reviewers note observable improvements in service and cleanliness.

At the same time, multiple operational concerns appear across the input. The most significant are gaps in emergency-response procedures and inconsistencies in staff training and certification; these point to potential weaknesses in clinical governance and incident management. Related concerns include staff conduct and communication tone in some interactions, as well as payroll and human-resources communication problems that can affect staffing stability. Families also raised issues around financial transparency and location-based pricing, which some found costly or confusing.

Service-level limitations are also noted. Dining is described as basic with limited meal variety, which may be adequate for some residents but unsatisfactory for others who expect broader options. The community is an assisted-living setting rather than a full medical or nursing facility; residents with higher-acuity medical needs will require a different level of care. Facility comfort factors include reports of limited climate control in parts of the building (no central air in some units).

Overall, Prairie Ridge appears to be a well-kept assisted-living community with many strengths in environment, amenities, and day-to-day caregiving. Prospective residents and families should balance those positives against operational concerns that have been raised: ask specific questions about emergency protocols, staff certification and turnover, payroll/HR practices that could affect continuity of care, billing and pricing structure, and meal options. Request documentation of staff training and emergency procedures, and tour both resident rooms and common areas at different times of day to assess staffing responsiveness and activity programming before making a placement decision.

    About Prairie Ridge Assisted Living

Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun, WI is a Community-Based Residential Facility (CBRF) that provides different levels of care so residents can stay as their needs change, and they have a focus on light care, with all residents currently needing only light care, which means most people need help with things like dressing, bathing, or medication but not constant medical attention, and the staff, including nurses available all day and night, helps with daily activities, medication management, and housekeeping, plus there's a 24-hour emergency alert and call system throughout the building, including special buzzers for residents to use when they need help, so nobody needs to worry about being alone in an emergency, and there are secured memory care areas-one in a separate building-for residents who have dementia or tend to wander, which helps keep everyone safe, and the community's equipped for non-ambulatory residents, with wheelchair-accessible showers and one-person transfer assistance, and the facility also manages bowel and bladder care, diabetic care like blood sugar checks and insulin, plus they offer respite care if someone just needs a short stay, or hospice services when it's time for that level of support.

Residents have a lot of places to gather and socialize, like several common rooms, a community lounge, an arts room for crafts or hobbies, and a dining room with all-day meals, even special options for those needing vegetarian, diabetic, allergy-friendly, or other diets, and meals are served in the dining room, but there's also room service arrangements, and every resident's room comes furnished with a telephone for easy communication and wheelchair access for comfort, and laundry and housekeeping services are included, which makes daily life easier, and there are recreational amenities like a well-stocked library, garden with walking paths, and organized activities, both community-sponsored and resident-run, so there's always something to do, and the staff helps arrange move-in and transportation for new residents, and residents can go on group excursions or use the complimentary transportation around town, or pay a small fee for extra rides, plus there are parking spots for residents who drive.

There's a beauty salon and barber shop right at Prairie Ridge, along with services for haircuts, and they hold movie nights, offsite outings, and devotional services in the onsite chapel so people can connect with their faith, and pets like dogs and cats are allowed, which can be important for some folks who want that companionship, but there's no smoking in any indoor area, whether it's the rooms or common spaces, and the building's handicap-accessible throughout. They have unique rooms and names for their gathering places, and they offer counseling and therapy for those who want more personal support, with staff who're known for being friendly, helpful, and on-task, creating a setting where residents can feel comfortable and respected as they age in place, and with different care types and specialized support, the facility's designed to meet the changing needs of seniors in a practical way.
