    Beautiful facility, caring attentive staff

I'm very happy with Primrose - a beautiful, well-designed facility with bedrooms opening onto warm common living spaces and a wonderful community area. The staff are caring, attentive and trained for residents' needs, giving personal touches like nails, hair, lotion, sitting with her at lunch, lots of activities (baking cookies and more), and excellent communication with family and hospice. My only notes: some rooms are a bit small and I'd like more staff at times, but I highly recommend Primrose.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise focused on the quality of care and the facility environment. Reviewers consistently describe Primrose Memory Care of Wausau as a beautiful, well-maintained building with attractive community spaces. The facility layout — bedrooms surrounding a common living area — is highlighted as an excellent concept that supports social interaction and a homelike atmosphere. Multiple reviewers specifically call the community and common areas "wonderful" and describe them as spacious and inviting.

Care quality and staff performance are the most frequently mentioned strengths. Reviewers emphasize that staff are caring, attentive, patient, and trained to meet the specific needs of memory-care residents. Several concrete examples of personalized attention are given: grooming services such as nails and hair, application of hand lotion, and staff sitting with residents at meals. Families note that staff provide personal attention and a family-like approach to care, which contributes to a sense of comfort and well-being for residents. One review explicitly states very happy satisfaction and a direct recommendation of the facility.

Activities and programming are another clear positive theme. Reviews mention a variety of activities, including baking cookies and other sweet treats, and describe an active schedule that engages residents. The presence of many activities supports socialization and daily engagement, reinforcing the homelike and community-oriented environment conveyed elsewhere in the feedback.

Communication and coordination with outside providers receive favorable mention as well. Reviewers note good communication between staff, family members, and hospice providers, indicating that management and care teams are responsive and collaborative when coordinating care plans and updates.

Notable concerns are limited but consistent: a few reviewers raised the issue of individual room size, with at least one specifically mentioning that individual rooms are somewhat small, while others described rooms as spacious, suggesting some variability in room size or perception. Additionally, one reviewer expressed a desire for increased staffing levels, indicating occasional concerns about staffing sufficiency despite widespread praise for the current staff's attentiveness.

In summary, the reviews present a cohesive picture of a well-regarded memory-care community with a strong emphasis on personalized, compassionate care, an attractive and thoughtfully designed facility, active programming, and good family communication. The most significant patterns of praise center on staff warmth and training, individualized attention (including grooming and meal companionship), and engaging activities. Minor negative points to watch are inconsistent perceptions of room size and requests for additional staffing; these appear secondary to the overall positive experiences described by families and may be areas for management attention to maintain high satisfaction as needs evolve.

About Primrose Memory Care of Wausau

Primrose Memory Care of Wausau sits in Weston, Wisconsin, and has 32 beds, making it a medium-sized community focused on memory care and assisted living for seniors. Residents can choose between several private studio room layouts that offer sizes from 280 to 371 square feet, and some units come with kitchenettes, so folks who like a bit of independence still get a say in their setup. The place operates as a licensed Community Based Residential Facility and helps people who need memory care, including those with Alzheimer's or dementia, with staff everywhere at all hours, and the staff get regular training specific to dementia and memory support, which is good because that can be tough to handle without the right skills and patience.

Residents get help with everyday things like bathing, dressing, taking medication, managing meals, and all those daily activities that sometimes get tricky with age, plus the staff can handle diabetic, incontinence, and non-ambulatory care if needed, and there's 24/7 nurses around to check in. You won't have to worry about upkeep, since weekly housekeeping and laundry services are standard, and they make sure everybody gets planned activities, wellness programs, and memory-enhancing opportunities daily, with programs like Fit Minds and Spiro 100 to keep minds and bodies active, as well as music and spiritual support through Coro Health. There's always things to do in the common areas, with an enclosed courtyard and secure outdoor space for fresh air, and places for social, physical, and devotional events, plus a beauty salon for a little pampering.

Meals include dementia-friendly options, and special dining programs make eating together pleasant, with a private dining area and a demonstration kitchen in the memory care wing, and there are guest meal options so family or friends can share a meal. Residents can keep pets, including cats and dogs, so beloved animals don't have to be left behind, and the staff work hard to personalize care and activities, keeping the focus on independence as much as possible while being right there when extra help's needed. Folks can also get respite care for short stays or when primary caregivers need a break, and aging in place is possible, meaning residents can stay as their needs change without moving.

Primrose Memory Care of Wausau uses ongoing assessments and open communication with families and doctors, and there's a rapid response nurse call system for safety. Regular transportation runs help residents get where they need to go, whether it's doctor appointments or errands. Utilities are included except for telephone and internet, so costs stay clearer, and leases run month-to-month for added flexibility. The facility's been rated about 8.4 out of 10 by community reviews, and it's considered the highest-rated senior living community out of six in the city of Weston. The community belongs to Primrose Retirement Communities and works closely with senior living advisors like A Place For Mom, so there's a wide support network backing things up, and with a memory care sunroom, foyer, courtyard, and special programs, the focus really stays on quality of life, comfort, and helping every resident maintain their identity and daily joy as much as possible, which matters a great deal with memory loss.
