New Beginnings was a small group home licensed as an adult foster care facility, set in a real neighborhood where up to six people could live together when they needed help because of age, memory problems like Alzheimer's, or physical and developmental disabilities, and they tried to make it feel home-like with friendly staff on hand for daily care, help with medicine, meals, laundry, and other household chores, plus letting folks enjoy both indoor and outdoor spaces, including a secure backyard and patio. Staff watched over residents round the clock to make sure everyone was safe, especially people who could wander or had memory issues, and the home had a memory care area that was set up just for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, with alarms on doors and alert systems to prevent anyone from leaving on their own or getting lost, and a computer system that told staff if someone went into an unsafe area, and all this was supposed to make sure people could feel secure and cared for. Residents had private or semi-private rooms, and meals came with options including special diets like gluten-free, vegan, kosher, or low-sugar, and families could join for meals too, while activities like art classes, outings, and offsite devotional services aimed to keep everyone social and engaged, and there were personalized memory care plans for those who needed them, trying to fit care to each person's needs, and sometimes guests could stay for respite or hospice care, or could keep living there even as care needs changed, which they called aging in place, and transportation and Wi-Fi were available. Nurses were on staff, and a doctor was just a call away if anything happened, and aides helped with things like grooming and using the restroom, or providing behavioral care when someone had issues that needed more attention, and homes for the aged were also part of the program, so elderly people who couldn't live alone could get help in a shared residential setting. Pricing aimed to be less than nursing care or home health services, but it's important to note that the staff sometimes had trouble following medication rules, making sure people stayed safe, and communicating with guardians, and the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs found problems like staff sleeping on shifts and letting residents leave unsupervised, which led to the license being suspended by the state in July 2023 with all care ending soon after and the facility closing in August 2023, so New Beginnings doesn't operate now but aimed to offer nearly full assisted living, memory care, and adult foster care in a neighborhood home before these issues shut it down.
